I really appreciate all these tutorials. You really took the time to explain the details of each aspect of the details. There is a depth of knowledge here, explained in an easy to digest way. I like the way you zoom in on each module and reveal just how much detail you can achieve if you take the time to dial things in properly. I really like this approach. It will be interesting to see how Reason 12 increases the clarity and visual resolution of the software. It would be great to be able to zoom in to elements in the DAW, the same way you do in these tutorials. Thank you very much.
Like to repeat, your videos are great at explaining these technical topics in an easy to understand way, and best of all in a unpretentious way. Unlike most of the other tutorials out there where they either seem like they are trying to show you how great their knowledge is, or are giving you some mediocre information so you will by into their paid courses etc. I believe you just want to help out people and spread the word that Reason is a great program to produce in. I really appreciate what you are doing, and look forward to more videos.
I was taught the difference is like a mute button vs a volume fader. Gate is on/off like a mute, the expander is more natural like using a volume fader.
Superb explanation sir...absolutely superb. There is no other tutorial that is as complete in presentation as this one. Thank you for this brilliantly done video.
Ok so I will just repeat after others: very good tutor. When it comes to technical side (for me more difficult than playing music) tutors like this are essential. Many others are just get carried away and get quickly into many details where you my friend made me believe I will get this at some point :D. Thanks a lot!
Though I know how to work the SSL9000J in the real world the hardware desk, is was a no brainer working it in Reason. I got excited when they introduced the SSL9000k into Reason, I almost urinated in my pants LOL This was one of my main reasons I went to the upgrade for Reason 5 now I use 6, The two variations of Time stretch, the Pulvirizer-Alligator was the other reasons I bought it. Blocks, Neptune, Kong etc I learned and let me tell you, Reason is like the MPC2000xl on 8 types of steroids. LOL What you have explained, is wonderful and simplistic so a novice could understand. I subscribed to you and keep doing good work!
That is some of the best tuts I`ve ever seen! I`m looking forward to the upcoming tuts about the SSL in Reason. Please keep it "In depth" like this one :D Thanks a lot for taking the time to make and share this! Cheers :)
Thx VERY much for your presentations & thorough explanation of functions & results of the 'intuitive' nature of these consoles. I sure appreciate the warm-up, just was I was looking for, been away from Reason since '13. Just about to get back to it, as the rest of the DAW low to mid level market is really washy, lately. And I've just never liked Protools, it puts me to sleep.
I think I learned something about expanders here! btw, when you zoom to just the dynamics section, and black out the other tracks and sections, the mouse tool-tip gets cut off, so we can't see the values you're looking at. (for future videos, I mean, it could be useful to see what you're doing)
Very nicely explained. One thing I'm not sure of though, can't the gate be partially open if you lower the range, instead of all the way closed as on 14:05 of the video. You said it can be on or off but can't it be partially "on" if you lower the range, so the green lights are more like the expander? Thanks
In the ssl mixer inside a project, is there a global gain on the faders across your tracks??? in other words, is there a way to raise all 40 faders for gain (db) if i have forty tracks at the same time?????? I have seen it done in some pro tools video where they do three or four tracks at a time. I only use Reason and just wondered if there was a process where this can be done in Reason 8. My control room is set to 0.00 db and my flower audio meter is peaking at -8 db.
+ RealRapRecords, on a Mac its hold shift and just click on your tracks and create a bus. The question was asked for parallel tracks. I just want to level parallel tracks after adding a new parallel track. I already know how to do what you are saying because all drums on a bus, synths, and others on a bus if need be. Thank you for your response though.
+RealRapRecords Well i have just seen in some pro tool videos where the mixologist can grab two channels whether on a bus or not can increase gain or decrease it. On a bus, there is a master fader so to speak that turns up all the channels within the bus. Specifically speaking, if i have 5 channels in a bus, i have to do them all through the master or turn them up or decrease independently. Its kind of a minuscule problem but just want it because sometime out of the five bus channels you may want to play with three.
The sound of a synth is very subjective and it all comes down to what you what to do with the sound you are creating on your synth. So to answer your question.... I would say just start using them and see how useful they are to you.
