Honestly what I like about Connor is he is his own character. He isn’t charismatic like ezio, he isn’t cold like Altair. Connor is pure conviction and heart, brutal towards his enemies but kind towards his friends.

The homestead missions were where Connor's personality shines for me

Conor's character design and story had a LOT of thought and effort put into it. You can dislike him and his story subjectively but you cant refute the amount of heart that was put into it.

Connor is tied for my favorite assassin in the franchise. I feel like people just didn’t pay any real attention to Connor.

Connor is unique because of the mindset the developers had when they created him. After Ezio, their intention towards Connor was to be a breath of fresh air, but due to negative reception from the final result, many new characters onward were created under the pretense of how they compare to Ezio. Connor and Altair never had that restriction.

I'm so damn glad I stuck with my original opinion of assassins creed 3 through all these years to see now how people are agreeing and appreciating it, connor is genuinely to this day my favourite protagonist - why - because he's human. The trauma connor went through from a young kid to an adult how could a man be charismatic and extroverted when you watched your village burn twice and your mother die at 5 years old, he's stoic because life forced him to be that way, he had NO ONE other than achillies, his "friends" all betrayed him, he had to kill his own father to get to the man he believed killed his mother, he had to kill his closest childhood friend, he realises the same cause he was actively helping was the same cause that destroyed his village and yet through all that he remains a good and helping man (see homestead missions.) He's a goddamn inspiration in truth, all this isnt mentioning at all how fantastic ac3 in general was from the combat, the voice acting, the parkour, memory mirrors, to the whole morally grey situation of the Story. One of my favourite games of all time

I commented this before, when I played Ac3 I found Connor to be unbearably naive. He joins the assassin's after getting a vision telling him if the templars win the world would suffer, but then there were times it felt Connor was doing more for the founding fathers than the assassin's, like when he chased Benjamin Church, that was no longer a templar,with his father (the grand Master). Even though revenge was a big driving point behind his actions he didn't chase Washington like he did with Charles Lee despite Washington having order the burning of his village But at epilogue of the game he seems to have grown so much, he knows what the templars are capable of, he knows the founding fathers aren't the absolute righteousness men he thought, and he also sees the african slaves arriving. I firmly believe he is deserving of a sequel to his story

It's sad that so many people have not played the Homestead missions where Connor really shines. Of course the main protagonist should not develop more in side quests than the main story, but I think the Homestead missions add so much more to his character.

What I love about Connor is that despite all he had lost and was betrayed by the very people who had promised to protect his Mohawk Native American tribe yet he never lost "hope" and remained loyal to his strong moral compass nor stopped fighting to preserve the freedom and peace for all people. Bayek, Altair and Ezio would absolutely be proud of him... As would Edward and Haytham.

Ubisoft set Connor up to fail. He followed Ezio and shared a game with his father as a co-protagonist, both characters who are known for their charisma.

I could never understand how people hated Connor. I loved it since the day it came out. He was a great character he faced a lot of hardship growing up literally watched his mom die and since then set out on a mission to save his people in which being tricked and lied to by George Washington and other people that figure headed the American revolution. His character matched well with the setting and the situation of the story. Also the game is intertwined perfectly with the story so it’s pretty cool how Connor ends up taking no credit for historical events in which we all know of. I could literally write page a after page about how Connor should be considered top 3 AC protagonist

Silly fun fact but, Connor doesn't actually have a last name. In canon, he doesn't take his father's last name(for obvious reasons) so he really is just Ratonhnhaké:ton, or well, Connor. I like that the fan base has labelled him Connor Kenway so you can easily differentiate from other characters with the same name. Also categorizing him with his father's and grandfather's name :)

I don’t understand why people hated his voice acting, it made sense cause not only was English his second language, he was bitter and angry. He was just mis understood, I think that’s the best way to describe him

Connor has essentially always been my personal favorite character in the AC series. His calm nature, and his determination and dedication to the Creed, made him awesome, not to mention, what most don't understand as to why he mistrusted most, was because he was born in the midst of a Revolution, and a society that viewed Native Americans as outsiders. People say "Connor is boring, he doesn't show emotion," He does show it, but it's extremely subtle, and you can see the sadness on his face when he kills his brother, and when Achilles dies, not to mention the development he gets during the Homestead missions. My top 3 favorite characters are pretty much Altair, Connor and Arno, in that order. I love Altair for his wisdom, and going from an arrogant man to one that is extremely wise, Connor as I stated for the reasons above, and Arno for his charming but serious and darker nature.

The most important question is: Where is Charles Lee??!!

As someone who loved the character since his Inception and to this day he remains my favourite character in the series i have to say I'm glad he got the recognition he deserves. What I'm hoping for is that that happens for other characters too and perhaps Ubisoft could give these characters a second chance either with a mainline game or even a DLC/expansion expanding their character similar to what they did with Far Cry and their antagonists.

The thing that makes me like Connor the most is the fact he wasn't around 10 years old when tragedy happened in his life. Ezio was 16 or so, but Conner was 4 years old when his village was burned down (even if he doesnt look like it.) 13 when he left to find achilles and ended up taking his first few human lives (again, doesnt look like it.) and 19 after he starts his templar hunting journey before being in his 20s by the time it's over. He's not a biased character, he'll call out anyone if he sees it. Blame those who deserve it. He may not be a happy person, no one could be after all that, but he's a character that thrives off of the bonds around him. Being the homestead missions, or the farther/son like relationship he gets with achilles, even the ship missions for captain kidd's treasure. Thats why i like him at least.

Well that's the thing ezio fanboys were expecting another charismatic/ womanizer kind of guy laughing chilling all the time but no ezio had his share of happiness in this life but not connor i mean the kid know what it is to menace someone not even being 10 yrs old, saw his entire world (village burned) could not save his only family(his mother) and had to live the rest of his childhood teenage years under discrimination so how in the hell did you expect someone like this to be charismatic? Its like asking the same from kratos and kratos is even worse in terms of attitude so connor to me is just one of the greatest and if y'all think otherwise y'all need some serious maturity

AC 3 100% deserves a remake. I always felt this game had the most potential in the series but felt rushed & needs a rewrite for specific chapters like the ending. & I wish they tied AC 3 more to Ezio & Altair to show how they connect with Desmond more

The way I interpreted the way Connor Kenway was written is: stereotypical stoic Native American. He doesn’t beat around the bush and prefers to get right to the point. But he also is not familiar to the way the colonialists and Brits engage in both speech and warfare. And also the politics at play during the war. And the dirty tricks from both sides. But like another commentator pointed out was that he liked the way Connor was during the Homestead Missions. And if I remember it correctly this is where Connor lets his guard down a little and we see some other sides of him. He does show a lot of emotion when it comes to his father and Charles Lee, and that is pretty understandable and also feels real to me. It shows that even though he is mostly stoic he does show emotion, but he might bottle it up for the most part to control himself. He sort of loses this control a bit when he comes in contact with the two former mentioned characters. Confusion, curiosity, anger and sadness with Haytham. And burning anger and want of revenge towards Charles Lee. I don’t think he is a badly written character, I think he is just fine. Not among my favourites, but not near the bottom of the list either in my opinion. Now I might have to replay AC3 soon, to see if I remember it correctly! :)

He was the first and only entirely positive representation of Mohawk culture I've ever seen. He was so important to me as a young Mohawk man with nothing but shame surrounding my identity; he showed me the strength of our people. Even if wider audiences don't like him, it can't be denied that he was the most important and most accurate depiction of the culture

Connor gotta be my favorite video game character of all time. He is The true definition of what it means to be resilient and have heart. Most badass character in the series in my opinion.

Connors debates with other Characters were why he became my favorite. Those discussions are legitimately thought provokng not just in the context of Assassin's Creed but life too.

Connor's design is my favorite in the series, I love the more rugged look of his assassin's robes, and totally fit the more wintery environment.

I never understood the hate Connor got when AC3 first dropped. It actually really used to irk me, because there was a lot of heart and emotion to him that everyone ignored because he wasn’t Ezio or Altïer. He was someone torn between his people and the revolutionists, as well as the Assassins and Templars. He’s complex, and trying to maneuver his way through a world that’s changing around him by the minute. Of course he won’t always be happy. Thats what the Homestead missions and Naval Missions were for. They offered a break from the complexity of the story and allowed Connor to simply relax, which showcased his heart. I had always wished we got to see more of him… at least fans are showing him some love now.

Something I've noticed as someone with comorbid ADHD and autism: most critiques of Connor's character and voice acting are straight up just people disliking the mannerisms and personality quirks associated with autism. Connor might be one of the most blatantly autistic-coded characters in any mainstream media. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with autism who doesn't relate to Connor, who can't see themselves represented in him. I genuinely believe that stigma around autistic behaviours is part of why he was so disliked, and that part of why people are giving him a second chance is because of how those behaviours have slowly been destigmatized.

I didn't like Connor that much when AC 3 first came out, I was about 14 years old and didn't really care for his story and I maintained this view the times I did replay the game so when the remaster came out I dismissed it but then few years later I thought to myself I'm older now and I don't remember much so I played the remaster and I finally understood Connor, I came to respect him and his journey, life beats you up, it's not pretty and to have the ability to stand up and face it all despite all your pain and loss is something else, I finally could grasp what his character meant I think time helped being close to 30 opens your eyes to a lot of things you wouldn't know when you are younger.

Been a part of the Connor and AC III defense squad since 2012. Still my favorite character and game in the series. I was quite the Ezio fanboy, but I was so excited to finally get a new protagonist and setting. Little did I know that from the very first reveal trailer in March 2012 that it would begin my journey of the single most hyped I've ever been for a game before release. Every single day I was on the internet looking for new information or rewatching stuff. To this day, AC III delivered completely on everything I was hoping for. It certainly has warmed my heart to see all the love Connor has been getting in the last couple years.

It was always irritating that people called Connor boring and bland when comparing him to Ezio. But it’s like they forgot Connor went through tragedy and would eventually lose his whole village. He was hurt, he was used and manipulated by political leaders. He was forced to kill someone he wished he could call family and another that he did. He faced loss again and again. And like everyone else has said here, more of him shines through the Homestead missions and plenty of people missed out on those missions. And I adored those missions and that made Connor my most favorite assassin. He’s human, he shows it with who he interacts with. Being humane is a big factor in his character and for many others.

AC3 was my first ac game, that game and Connor will always have a special place in my heart

The sad part is Conner was actually meant to be Arno’s mentor in Unity, but time constraints forced him to be cut entirely.

Connor and his people by extension were very stoic in those times, I love how down to earth he is. Literally my favourite AC protagonist.

As a VR gamer, let me just say that there's so much catharsis when you can play as Connor Kenway in first person in VR and can FINALLY THROW HIS TOMAHAWK WITH YOUR OWN HAND

I honestly only learned people didn't like Connor when I first started spending time on the internet. I thought he was a good character from day one and didn't really understand the hate.

Another possible reason why is Connor is being seen in a new light is because as the people that played AC3 were young and didnt like a character that wasnt cool and flashy. But, as the players grow older and wiser (hopefully), they began to see wisdom that Connor represents. He may not be as charismatic or charming but he is honest and straightforward in his actions. He will fight for a cause because it is the right thing to do, regardless which faction that may be. In Conor's journey to become a Master Assassin and restoring the Brotherhood, we see Connor shedding his naivete and ideals but not giving up in his dreams. That despite a brutal and ruthless world, he still finds the good around him. We also see that besides being stoic and unflinching, he also has a soft side. Helping people, fostering a community and even start a family. Altair fought for a cause that was inherited to him. Ezio fought for a cause that was thrust upon him. Connor however, he sought for a cause worth fighting for. Not just the Brotherhood, but the fledgeling United States as well.

What happened is really simple. Most of the people that hated him back then are basically kids or even mid teen at most, and now a decade later they grow older and have a solid grasp about reality and found themself finally relate to all that shit happened to Connor and how sucks it is to keep going because they already experienced a bit of that in their own self. I myself have liked him since then, in fact, I prefer the Kenways so much more than Ezio. Can't help that because in terms of traits and characters, Ezio is basically your typical perfect protagonist you already seen in every kind of media and it's just so difficult to be really amazed by the overdone archetype. The thing that kept me going for the first four games were the historical connection between the three protagonists, not because I like/adore the main characters.

In the Homestead Mission where you first meet Warren and Prudence, saving them from the Redcoats destroying their farm, there's a small character moment where Connor approaches them and invites them to his Homestead. Before he leaves, he places his hand on Warren's to reassure him. Of all things, that simple act was the moment that won me over with Connor, and it lingers in my memory even 12 years later. Such a small thing, but someone had to program that gesture of solidarity, and it goes to show that lot of care went into characterizing Connor. Altair was born to wear white and Ezio, for two-thirds of his story, was just in it for revenge. Connor was the first protagonist to really feel like a "Hero" to me; an Assassin for the people.

A very well thought out video. It is nice to hear this perspective especially about a character I loved as well. When AC3 came out I was hyped it was presented and teased well but as I played it I thought it was far too short, mostly because of playing as Haytham in the beginning and I just thought there were a lot of design elements that shafted Connor quite a bit. I loved Connor as a character, as a relatable human being. As time went on and I experienced more adult things in my own life I played AC3 again and again and grew to love Connors character more. I spent time on the homestead missions, played the DLC’s and then Black Flag came out featuring his grandfather, the AC3 Novel provides even more depth to this entire family. The homestead missions are so vital to Connors character because it’s like a salve to all of his past traumas and even his current ones. Yes Connor came off cold and even aggressive outside of the Davenport community because it was his trauma response. He kept the Davenport community close because it reminded him of his childhood community. That’s all I have to say but I did thoroughly enjoy this video man. Thanks!

I personally think ac3's story is a lot better when you look at it from another perspective (I also appreciated that they decided to say that washington, was not as cool a guy as you think and presented actual criticisms towards who he was). as a basic example with haytham look at his interactions with connor and take the perspective that he can't truly be honest due to his life as a templar. his final words become interesting if you know that connor truly understands him. it's why connor's outburst towards haytham is actually a massive highlight to his character. Also take in note that haytham's life has been plagued with what ifs specially towards his old age where connor is front and center within the conflict. hes always wondered what it could have been if he was able to stay with zii'o who he genuinely loved, if he had been honest to connor at the start, had he just abandoned the order after killing church, had his father not died, had he become an assassin. in his final conflict it wasn't simply connor vs haytham. but to haytham it was a fight between himself and a reflection of himself had he become an assassin.

Part of what makes Connor interesting is that he is not always meant to be "liked," in fact, the character has some very dark or even annoying moments and that is exactly what makes him interesting, because he feels authentic. When I played AC III the first time I didn't agree with many of his choices, but I quickly developed a respect for the character because of the predicament he is in. He is between the Assassins, the Templars and the Patriots the whole game, each faction demanding his loyalty, forcing their world views on him, *always* expecting him to help *them* and chastising him when he questions them. They rarely help, they rarely teach, they never guide, but they sure as hell punish and that is something that I can relate too and respect whoever suffers that. Talking about your video, yes, Connor is a great example of fan support. Assassin's Creed as a franchise has undergone its ups and downs across the years, and its community is divided between characters and genres and so on, but this franchise, and its fanbase, manages to perform incredible feats that a few years ago seemed impossible, and few other companies and fandoms can replicate with their franchises.

Connor was actually the first Assassin I ever played as. I know people love Ezio or Altair more. But Connor has that nostalgia quality to me. And also I really love AC3 combat system.

He was the most brutal fighter out of all of the playable characters, as well as having the coolest arsenal in my opinion. The rope dart was dope, his bow and tomahawks were fucking sick. He had one of the most tragic stories i feel. watching his mother burn to death, along with his village , and later on being forced to kill his own father all while fighting the white man's war.

I really like Connor mainly because he embodies values popular at this time in history (talking about setting) that are really close to my heart

AC3 is by far one of the best games in terms of introducing moral conflict to the player. This is probably the one game where the protagonist is at a constant back and forth between which side is the good or bad one, even up until the very end of the game. Obviously to us, the player, Templars are meant to be viewed as the enemy, but Connor has nothing to base his views off of. He was not born into the order like Altair was, and was not guided by multiple Assassin role models like Ezio was. The only people he had to teach him about the Assassins and Templars were Achilles and Haytham, but Connor practically had to build up his own perspective of things on his own. Remember, the Templars had effectively wiped out the Colonial Brotherhood at this time, and the only other Assassin that we know came into contact with Connor was Aveline who was dealing with her own problems regarding the French colonies, so Connor had to rebuild the Colonial Brotherhood practically by himself with almost no help. And even after all of his efforts, helping the Colonies win the war, protecting figures such as George Washington, etc., he still doesn't feel like he's won. He sees that after everything, knowing that fellow native tribes still suffer due to expansion of the colonies, seeing slave auctions being held. He got his revenge over Charles Lee, but, to him, the world didn't feel that much different.

the game felt like it gave you a real purpose fighting a real struggle by the seriousness of the tone

One of the funniest moments is Connor standing over some random guy in the pub like “wHeRe Is ChArLeS LeE?”

I love Connor from the beginning. I total remember being an "outcast" in the fanbase because Connor was kind of a dick, but that's what I loved. He would call people out and could take a hit and give it back tenfold. Ezio is my favorite assassin but I knew Ubisoft had to make a new character and it wasn't going to be an Ezio clone. Ezio was the "tell a joke, and jump off the boat in shark infested waters" assassin. Connor was the "This guy is an idiot, I'll just do it myself" assassin. Connor was from a different culture and people compared to the Colonials and British he had to mingle with. Knowing that Achilles probably educated Connor on history not just from the creed, Connor could easily grew up with "these people just see me as a savage." Solidified by Charles Lee when we start playing as Connor. He's a complex character and people were way to quick to judge.

What I really appreciate about current Internet culture is we are starting to appreciate characters and media we previously dismissed. Connor and Anakin were both viscerally hated critics but have both found very vocal fanbases in recent years.

I mean Evie and Jacob are terrible but, they are leagues better than Kassandra and Eivor. Also think Basim sucks 🤷

I used to be the biggest hater ever of connor back around 2015 but back in 2018-2020 I revisited ac3 and decided I'm gonna give it another chance I decided to do a lot of side missions hell i pushed my self to go for 100% Sync in the main story and everyone should know it's annoying for ac3 in particular but I decided to do it just to feel more in sync with connor I loved the homestead missions they fleshed out his character for me it's not just give me lee he actually cares for the land and his friends he solves problems and does so many good things in the game hidden behind side quest and things like that I can't help but respect connor Kenway for being a character that went back to being a serious assassin

I think if connor got a trilogy or a spin off game showing him develop more as a person, he would have easily been a fan favorite.

Conor felt the most real. He had real emotions. Ezio was the creed in and of itself, while Conor had to mold to it and struggled.

The thing I that I love about Connor is that he is truly his own character. His progression throughout the main story from being naive to wise really shows, he made mistakes but he learns from it and he is also susceptible to his emotions such as his drive for vengeance which eventually drove him to seek the real truth. As for his personality, he shines even more through the Homestead missions. Overall, his character is, IMHO, the most human out of all the main Assassins

Connor is my most beloved character because he was an idealistic boy. Who as he grew into a man seen the fucked up world he was living in and he moaned and complained at first seeing the easy answers. And grew learning those answers can't be achieved due to conflicting forces. Becoming wiser upon each revelation while becoming a cold realist

I love pretty much all of the Assassins Creed games I don’t particularly care too much about the overall story itself but how it makes me feel. The story of Connor Kenway is what hooked me in to what eventually became my favorite gaming franchise, it’s deep, it’s emotional, and overall it’s fun to play. Connor Kenway is my favorite character, Altiair is too arrogant, while I love Ezio he’s too cocky, Connor is humble for the most part, the homestead missions is honestly where his personality shines. But that’s not to dispel his downfalls when he joins the brotherhood he is incredibly naive and idealistic, he basically hyper focused on Charles Lee and Haytham with no real direction until later in the story. But he’s my favorite character because despite all that he lost he still marched forward and persevered showing undeniable strength and fortitude.

I love Connors unbeatable will. He has lost everything in his life, his mother and his village burned when he was just 4 years old, he was taken advantage of by the people in power who pretended to be his friends. He was forced to kill his father and his mentor died slowly. Connors mission was in vain but he never stopped. There is a beautiful moment that sums this up. Connor is injured and Charles Lee asks Connor why he doesn’t stop and Connor says because no one else will. He is willing to bear that responsibility and pain for the benefit of the everyday folk he has sworn to protect. How easy would it be for Connor to forget about helping people and the Revolution and just live peacefully but he knows how apathetic the world is and wants to change that. To inspire hope and change among the populace. Connor sees how people are treated and asks why does this have to be the case? Why can’t everyone be treated equally? He was dehumanised by everyone around him. Viewed as a savage stupid brute when in reality he was a patient, hopeful and restrained man who knew that he had to use violence to enact change but he didn’t enjoy it. He felt remorse when killing his victims no matter how morally wrong they were. Connor paved the way for a new generation of assassins who could learn from the mistakes of the Assassins under Achilles leadership. They abandon hubris and pride and value freedom over power. Connor is one of the most well written characters in the series in my opinion. If people disagree I’d be open to hearing about it provided it is respectful and doesn’t devalue my or anyone else’s opinions. I love talking about Connor and Assassins Creed 3 has had a massive impact on my life in general.

My favorite Connor moment is the late act darkest hour scene where he’s knocked down by Charles Lee who essentially asks him: “why are you still fighting? Why are you hurting yourself like this?” In a way that doesn’t sound mocking but almost piteous. His answer being “because no one else will” was peak character. Maybe a bit of a generic thing to say, but compelling all the same for the weight of what he was going through.

Great video. I appreciate people like you who may not agree with something but can respect it. Kind of hard to find these days... At least it feels that way. I would say Connor is definitely unforgettable If the player pays attention to the themes surrounding the character From where he started to where he ends up. I definitely agree the ending speech should have been kept in the original game. But there were other themes In the game that showed Conor evolving as a person. For example: 1.) When Connor axes the pillar From Achilles's house , as in tradition amongst his people to announce war against an opposing group. Achilles response saying, " You could have at least found a tree to do it on" years later, Connor succeeds and pulls the ax out of the pillar but as he does so he looks around at all the trees around him and finally understands what Achilles was trying to tell him, but he was too stubborn and arrogant to listen. 2.) during Connor's execution, the guy that tried to set Connor up, mocked him saying his hands will always be empty and that the path he is going down will be an unrewarding one. If you were to ask me, my hot take would be that ezio came at a good time to be an assassin, whereas Connor and Arno came at probably one of the worst times to be one. Kind of like what happened to Michael coulione from godfather part 2 when you compare his life to his dad's and how his life is much harder being a gangster compared to his father's.

I feel like “rushed narrative development” is a strange criticism by an ezio fan. I first played AC2 a year ago and Ezio mostly felt like a Gary Stu, and the game bounced all over the place and the ending speech from Ezio felt so shallow and that it came out of nowhere. It was such a stupid turn after the intelligently written characters of the first game. It was a shock because of how amazingly executed Altair’s arc is and how much Ezio is universally praised.

It's worse to find out that his later story was going to be unfolded in Initiates, but it was cancelled. AC writer, James Nadiger, revealed on Twitter in March 2019 that Assassin's Creed: Initiates was initially supposed to feature more of Connor's story in his later life, as revealed through the perspectives of characters around him. Nadiger wanted to slowly reveal Connor's real story through Initiates, showcasing that he became one of the greatest Mentors in the Brotherhood's history. This would have showcased Connor's family and friends alongside the role of the American Assassins in pivotal events such as the War of 1812 and would explain that the Davenport Homestead vanishing and Connor dying alone were ruses to elude the Templars. Initiates was cancelled before Nadiger could finish what he planned. Least in the comics, Assassin's Creed: Reflections, he was shown to be a loving dad to three kids and a great husband to another native woman of a different tribe. Still, what a huge miss of a great story.

Connor had amazing potential, but ubisoft messed it all up by boxing half of his character development as side content and cut the ending speech (which serves as the other half) out of the game, it's only after completing both can one fully understand Connor Edit:And also the abhorrently long intro that felt like it was made halfheartedly

Main content vs side content is also a very important aspect in this discussion too. I had this revelation with AC Brotherhood too but when I went back an replayed AC3, the side content was a masterpiece. The best parts of the game are hidden away in the 1 place players learn to ignore.

Everyone knows the homestead missions are where his character shines but it’s also where his voice actor shines. I know Natives personally and I know that’s how they “talk” in that monotone voice, I’ve never researched why even though I’d like to. But you can hear much more standard emotion in his line delivery during those missions

Every time I come back to AC3, I keep thinking how much higher I'd rank the game if the Homestead/rebuilding the Colonial Assassins was the main game, with the historical pop-ins being the side content. The former is where the game shines for me.

JRR Tolkien said once a world of fiction has been released, the canon of the lore belongs to the public, there is nothing the creator can do to change how the public perceived the work.

I think people would be a lot more positive towards Connor if they didn't lock basically all of the best character moments and humanizing pieces behind easily missable side content. If you play through the game focusing just on the main story with only focusing on the flashiest bits of side content then he's a sullen, angry, single-minded man that's obsessed with revenge. If you instead put in the work for the homestead then you get a young man with a lot of personal baggage and trauma coming out of his shell and seeing that there is more to life than the mission. Unfortunately most of the players only saw option A.

Connor and Altair are in the similar positions of being orphan at a young age , being betrayed , learning of thier masters mistakes ,being aggressive, isolated, blinded by thier ideology and view of the world and arrogant,but when they reach thier 30s , they started to mature , have connections with former templar's, have connections with the common people, rebuild a assassin headquarters in thier region of the world, help the world in a impactful time period

I also like to headcannon Connor as being Autistic. As someone who is autistic, connor just gives off those kind of vibes to me, with how earnest and sincere he is. How uncharismatic and stilted he can be. That and just how cool he is, being a native American, having one of the best designs in the franchise, using a tomahawk as an assassin's weapon. And his final line to Charles Lee has always stuck to me "Yet you fight. You resist. Why?" "Because no one else will." I really appreciate him.

I might as well say this but Jacob and Evie are easily my favorite character, I just love the idea of a brute but still soft for his sister at times being a brother myself. That and it was the first ac game I've played

It's interesting to look back on AC 3 after 12 years. I had liked Connor's character at the time, probably because I'm also a reserved person and can relate to his annoyance at how touchy complete strangers were with him in the early story. But now I really appreciate how the story and his character arc played out. AC 3 was morally gray from the setting to the conflict between the Templars and Assassins to Connor's own motivations. As the story played out, the player and Connor gained new perspectives that drastically change our view of earlier events, yet though it all Connor held to his convictions and refused to be swayed despite how much he may have questioned them. I also enjoyed his arc in the King George dlc. I have found few corruption arcs as well executed as that story's.

Perfectly said. I’ve always loved him and he’s the only protagonist that I would make me make a 10 hour video for lol. But he’s seriously an interesting character to me and my first & favorite one.

I think what I liked about conner is how human he felt. There was something human and relatable about Him. He wasn't like other assassins, but that also wasn't a bad thing.

I'm Native and because of that I always thought Connor was badass, plus I loved the Assassins Creed games and thought the idea of a Native Assassin was so interesting but then again theres hardly any Native protagonists in video games. As a character I do prefer Ezio and Bayek to Connor though but I still like Connor.

I never knew that people hated Connor Kenway. I always found him as a good character with a great design, plenty tools too that you just don't see in other games. I doubt people are going to be defending the frye twins after a few years time, Connor Kenway is one of a kind and lives in a great game.

I've always been a Fan of AC3 and Ratonhaketon as a character. Like, it's hard for me not to. I grew up in Ohio and learned about native american culture in school and we have a museum we'd go to that had native american exhibits and in alot of ways i found Ratohaketon's personality to be very very similar to aspects of my own. So maybe i took it alittle personally when people initially disliked him. I'd even make arguments for Jacob Frye aswell, not that i can off the top of my head, since it's been a minute since i finished syndicate recently. But these characters (Eivor aswell) i've just got this pull towards. Ezio is everywhere, and he is so "perfect" when it comes to characters that grow and live and become these idealized forms. Altair is similar going from hothead to wiseman in a single game and then getting more in the 2nd game and revelations to wrap him up. I like them but there's nothing that i can personally attatch myself to. Edward fits cleanly into the same mold of ezio and altair aswell. Moat other protags i think are just fine imo. Tho i think Shay gets too much hate.

We might not ever get a chance a true AC3 sequel, but I have been trying to envision a relative of Connor in the civil war who could right wrongs that Connor had made, and be a slightly less colder person than Connor, but not trying to be like Ezio, a more understanding person

In my opinion. I think one of the reasons people hate on Connor so much is because they didn't like the game itself. In particular that they killed the modern story with the death of Desmond. That and he didn't have as much of an impact on that modern story the same way Ezio did. I personally would love to see another game with Connor that involves a good modern story as well. I think the hate this game got helped fuck up the modern storys. People gave so much hate to the modern story that they basically cut it out. Then in black flag the modern story was the worst part of the game.

Let’s also not forget that AC3 did a way better job at explaining the Templars point of view too. The rooftop conversation between Connor and Haytham was one of the best in my opinion and got me thinking that perhaps the Templar's aren’t wrong too.

I absolutely loved Connor when the game came out and was honestly suprise when I found out there was hate on him. But one thing I think we can all agree on is Edward deserved a better ending than what they gave him. To kill him off for the sake of a book that only half the fan base read was ridiculous. He deserved a long life as a master assassin and a peaceful end.

I'm so glad Connor is getting more love because I feel like it wasn't fair on how the community kind of judged him partially because he wasn't Eizo he was very unique and it just kind of sucks that we never got to expand on the character I feel like if Connor had died maybe one more game or had a trilogy I think they definitely could have elevated character even more but I am glad to see that he's finally getting some love

I can understand if you're just not a fan of this personality type, but I struggle to take seriously people who use Connor being "too serious" as a genuine mark against his character because all things considered he has every reason in the world to be a mean person. I do however wish he'd been characterized a bit closer to the way he is in the Foresaken novel because I think you get a much better perspective of how much he really did care, and how tragic he really is.

I took that AC "Which Assassin are you quiz" from Ubisoft, and to this day, every time I answer, I still get Connor 🤣 In the description of his character in that quiz it says that he's an outsider/outcast from everyone, but is true to himself and his morals, and nothing will stop him from doing right. That made me realise: I'm very much like Connor (besides the Assassin training and killing people🤣). He's one video game character I respect and relate to without a doubt in my mind🤝🏽

I've never understood the hate Connor gets from fans, always arguing that he's too serious and moody, of course he's gonna be pissed his people were being massacred by not only his enemies but even the people he thought were his allies, who he felt he still had no choice but to aid because they were the lesser of two evils, his character and his attitude towards things and the people around him are completely realistic for someone put in a situation where he can't actually win and help the people he loved, who raised him and who he originally set out to try and save, as the game goes on he slowly starts to realise that he'll never be able to help them no matter how much he wants, the entire world is against them, and in the end that's exactly what happens, he loses them all as they have no choice but to move on as their land was stolen from them by the people he was helping the whole time. AC 3 is the one that never fails to bring me to tears any time I play it, and while the other games have their moments that are also very emotionally, none do it as consistently as 3 or Connor as a character. Connors one of the best written characters in assassins creed. I have a question for anyone who thinks Connor is badly written, do you really think it makes sense that Ezio just let Rodrigo go at the end of 2, it doesn't at all, yes he had got to the point where he had let go of his need for vengeance but he was now an assassins and knew Rodrigo was the grandmaster, he had a duty but decided to just let him go, even Machiavelli calls him out on it in brotherhood because it just doesn't make sense, and the only response to Machiavellis frustration is Mario being like "what's done is done", so yeah anyone that stubbornly hates on Connor without actually trying to understand his point of view, his character and his motivations, ask yourself did Ezio's character always make sense???

HIS VOICE ACTING IS NOT BAD that is my least favorite criticism, I am native myself though I am not Mohawk I have spoken to Mohawks and they got a real Mohawk native to voice Connor. He talks quite accurately to his culture. Natives especially Mohawks do not often use a lot of conjecture words like don’t or can’t they say do not or can not and they can speak rather monotone and bluntly especially if English is not their first language like Connor. Connor does a great job representing his background and talks exactly like the handful of Mohawk natives I have met. All because it doesn’t sound like what we are used to in American voice actors doesn’t make it bad, a person from Germany or Japan would sound different to in how they speak Do not think Connor’s voice acting is bad instead just learn it’s a different culture being represented and enjoy hearing something new like that. He maybe could have done a couple things a little better but also if you are wanting to be respectful and hire an actual Mohawk native man that can speak the language- your options are extremely thin. And what options you do have likely are not widely experienced because demand is low. To this day AC3 is the only game I can think of that I got to play a respectful and informative depiction of a native man- no matter what Ubisoft does I will always respect that and one day I hope for more. I am not one to get my heckles up for representation but in gaming and almost any media there is hardly any for me, and when there is a native around they are usually a side character (I love you Arthur but I want to play as Charles) so getting a character like Connor is not just rare it’s practically unheard of, I love him.
