Actually as a drummer I can tell you some of the things he is saying even translate to drumming. Practice is very similar in many different environments
5:01 can't stress this enough. back when i was training the piano, going to sleep had literally the biggest jump in performance than anything else i acquired during practice. don't underestimate your brain!
you should read "why we sleep" by Matthew Walker, goes into detail about how the brain saves and practices new info when sleeping, super ineresting. He actually mentions a situation very similar to the one you describe about learning piano.
great video - I don't play melee anymore, just spectate, but a lot of stuff you discuss can be applied to all kinds of practice. if you're looking for video ideas, i'd be interested in learning how you practice/prepare mentally for high pressure tournaments, since you've gotten really good at that over the years. i'd also like to see your approach to dealing with bad habits/bad muscle memory. loved watching you at goml even if you weren't playing your best, your attitude and self-discipline are inspiring, hope to see you in grand finals again soon!
I love watching melee, but I don't have the time or energy to play it seriously. I will always play the newest game, as that's how I'm most likely to have people to play with frequently

Things like this (how to train videos) are SO important. Learning how to break things down, control your practice, and especially time/analyze your practice is truly the way to get good at any skill. I'm a professional trombonist and didn't start really progressing until I learned to be as deliberate/consistent as possible. You're doing smash God's work, thanks so much man
Awfully Fawfully everyone thinks these guys are inhuman freaks. with godly accurate tech and sense of play. when they fuck up and need practice just like everyone else.
it's also very different hitting tech in tournament vs practice. If i'm warmed up and playing vs a human I can see and feel a whole string of things ahead of time and the tech skill just happens
Andrew Ferguson this is so true . My first hour of play 9/10 is pitiful to watch . But once you warm up it’s way easier to enter the flow state . Then boom you’re doin shit you didn’t know you knew how to do
just to note, ucf can be used in 20xx steps: 1. go to 20xx.me/ucf and download the codeset 2. in your dolphin folder (or faster melee), go to game settings and search for your game ID. i would recommend downloading the game code www.mediafire.com/file/qnjgfcitilf9bcu/Game+Code.zip 3. unzip the file and place your 20xx file in there 4. the ID should be GALEXX 5. so now in gamesettings, search for GALEXX 6. copy and paste the ucf codeset 7. go to gecko codes and enable ucf 8. enjoy 20xx with ucf! great tutorial leffen!

All of the top players buy from a reliable source like N3zmodgod because they always have controllers that Shield drop, no snapback, etc. And they can notch them and everything too
Also the claw upsmash OOS is doable if you're shielding with L. Sucks because I naturally sheild with R and wavedash and cancel with L. But if you're trying to bait a bad Puff aerial with upsmash OOS, you can run up, sheild with L, upsmash OOS
Are people actually upset that a pro melee player is practicing melee and helping other people practice melee? Next time a melee player plays ultimate I'm going to bitch like there is no tomorrow to even out the scales Leff, thanks for the guide!

What version of the game is the one you use in the first part of the video? I use version 20XX V4.07 and don´t have the options to practice shiel drop, it is what caught my attention. Eres un crack con Fox.

5:00 I always tell people I don't "gain exp" until the next day or until after the training/sparring is over which was weird for smash club at my school. I'd get bodied, replay the moments I messed up in my head, typically when I lost neutral, and see if I can exploit a theoretical strategy against it later. this lead to a Dedede mirror in Smash 4 where I won with n-air, up-tilt, shield, up-tilt, shield, up tilt, shield, up tilt, up smash. Unfortunately, casuals never learn. Against good players I'd slow down the match to find their patterns. I always relate this to the training Trunks did in DBSuper where he imagined every way he lost to Freiza over the pond.
I like how Leffen says "I think you should do x and y" as if he's not the #1 Fox. He's number #1 Fox for a reason, there's no "I think" about it, that's what you have to do to get better
I wish ultimate had all of these training mechanics!! I always though wave dashing and L-cancelling were tech skills discovered by players, not actual mechanics in the game so that’s pretty cool lol
Wave dashing and L cancelling are mechanics in the game AND they were discovered by players. Those things arent mutually exclusive. Im not sure exactly what you meant but i think seeing L cancel and Wave dash mentioned in the game itself may have thrown you off, but those are only listed in Event Mode because he is on Uncle Punch's amazing training mod which modifies the events
