Most farms have a wind mill. Why doesn’t yours? When the sun doesn’t shine, the wind does!
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Год назад
I don't know of any farms locally that have wind mills...most farms do not have windmills my friend...that's a thing of the past and a western thing...the wind does not blow enough here to have a windmill that would effectively pump water. Again...that's a western US thing and you don't see many of them anymore
@stephenreese5921
@stephenreese5921 Год назад
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Wind mills in the past were only generating wind to pump water. Small wind mills/generators now generate power to a battery bank (your size may matter). I was only thinking of an alternate power source for your farm! I discounted any hydroelectric generation from the Stoney Ridge Falls, although it could be done.

If you have ever traveled the country you would see wind mills are constrained in areas of the country where there is enough sustained wind to make it worthwhile. Look at the trees behind him in the video, or many videos. We don't get enough wind to make it effective. Solar with a generator backup is as good as it gets.

Forgive me if I have missed something. 8 cells x 190 watts per cell seems like a lot of power to work the pump if you are just refilling a tank from a well. Do you have a battery that is being charged at all or just relying on sunny day power? I'll admit, I didn't get to watch the whole video. Does this well supply your home as well? We are on well, but this got me thinking as a back up for hurricanes (Florida) when the power goes out. The one thing you miss real quick is water. Do you treat the 1500 gal storage tank so that it could be potable? I like the idea of having that in reserve for personal use.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer

The tank isn't treated and the water is potable....if you wanted you could use a system like this for your home, however understand that if you're planning on water storage, it needs to be in a place on your property that is high enough to build water pressure.
