WATCH MORE - One prolific director with ties to A24 has had some major breakout hits. And that's none other than Greta Gerwig! Here's our TAKE on her superstar recipe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T-ndnzdNtFc.html

I love how A24 manages to rise the careers of many up and coming actors, such as Timothee Chalamet, Anya Taylor Joy, and others, and puts older actors, such as Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Brendan Fraser and Jamie Lee Curtis back into the spotlight.

They really saved mid budget films. In an era of streaming saturation. Aren't interested in movie stars, just actors. Instead of content it feels like art

It's crazy even with the trailers and even if you don't even see the movies yet or not seen them the imagery stays in your head with A24

It seems as if you think that A24 makes their movies. A24 doesn't produce most of their stuff, they're just the US distributor for many of these movies.

I make it a point to watch an A24 film at the theatres because I want them to keep making it. I want them to keep investing in these new directors and new stories and weird charaters.

Unfortunately, they don't always do a tom of advertising. I'd never heard of Talk to Me, until I saw it in the AMC lineup. I chose it simply because it was a horror movie and it ended up being really good. For me, the other issue is release. I'm in central Illinois, so not all of their movies come to our theaters. I remember being really interested in Marcel, The Shell With Shoes On. Never came to our theaters. :-( Men was only here for a week.

@@UnboxingAlyss I suggest subscribing to their newsletter! I subscribed to it so I get notified of new trailers and upcoming movies. That's how much I love A24 movies (dating back to Spring Breakers & Under the Skin). But I get it, in the grand scheme of things, they are still a "small" production company and still have a small budget in advertising compared to juggernauts like Paramount, Disney, etc. I am spoiled because I live in Chicago. I will say, that I missed the run of Past Lives so when I got the newsletter that it was available to buy online, I bought it immediately. $20 for a movie I've rewatched twice already... is so worth it.

They've said they want to expand into mainstream, IP-based titles but I REALLY hope that they A: continue to make the films they've been making the last decade, and B: Give filmmakers more creative freedom within IP based movies.

Did they really say that? Or just that they will focus more on commercially viable projects? Beau Is Afraid lost a lot of money this year. They’re still a small studio that agreed to SAG’s demands right away. They must ensure their financial future if they want to continue to grow and be able to afford to keep investing in weird indie movies. I have no issue with that. If they get bought out by a major studio, then I’d be more disappointed.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was the first R-rated movie I ever saw in a theater. Though I actually saw Lady Bird in high school, so that was my first true R-rated movie. And I was overjoyed when I learned A24 picked up Hazbin Hotel for distribution. Handel's Hallelujah chorus was playing in my head that day.

As an accountant, I’m disappointed that studios only view prospective film projects as profit or loss as opposed to stories that need to be told on film. Yes, I get that it’s a business, but when the artistic element is reduced to a formula or is removed entirely, that’s a problem. No wonder I’m disengaged from the MCU and Star Wars franchises at this point.

I recently rewatched Moonlight. It is still as perfect as I remember and a true gem of filmmaking. A24 has not surpassed that for me, but they have made films I consider the best of their genre (Hereditary for Horror, EEAAO for Action). I hope they don’t get swallowed in their own success. I am expecting more stories from them from perspectives we never see. I am also really wanting a sequel to Moonlight but I know it’s not gonna happen. It’s too perfect of a story.

I really don t think streaming has been cannibalising the DVD market/industry. I’m talking as a physical media collector and I can say that streaming has changed my cinema experiences. There are a LOT of films that I consider not worth the cinema experience and I m therefore waiting to see them when they head to streaming. Collectors are even moooore influenced to buy dvds / blurays lately because of streaming services who are unreliable concerning their content.

the secret is letting directors do what they want it's that simple, taking chances on people which people no one truely does anymore due to overpriprozing profit. People like to whine there's no creativity left but there are countless people waiting for a shot but studios aren't willing to take a shot on original stories rather poach on remakes live actions revivals etc etc

A24 is the Disney, Dreamworks, Universal, WB, and other Hollywood names of indie films altogether, along with Blumehouse and Sony Animation. It goes to show that in 15+ years down the line, A24 and other independent movie companies and media entertainment will be on the rise, making it the next Hollywood of Indies. Meanwhile, other big companies like modern Hollywood will soon slowly lose it's viewers because of how corporate and greedy they are nowadays with endless remakes, sequels, and never-ending franchises. The only two I love are the Spider Verse trilogy, Puss in Boots 2, The Black Phone, M3gan, and The Monkey Man.

The only movie I've not really enjoyed was Uncut Gems. Just didn't land with me. The rest feel well real. The people creating these movies understand human nature. It's put art back in the artform that Hollywood with the soulless cyborg bureaucrats took out for numbers and algorithms. Proving Hollywood don't care or don't understand what people want.

@mhawang8204

Beau Is Afraid lost a lot of money. A24 has said they will focus on more commercial projects now. Even with EEAAO being their arguably biggest success, it’s still not as mainstream as mid budget movies used to be. You know people would only watch films like The Pelican Brief or Spotlight on streaming these days. If only small studios that are a few flops away from financial troubles are releasing these interesting movies, it’s not healthy. The alarmists have a point. Willems is not the only one saying this for years.

The existence of A24 doesn't negate the fact that the movie industry as a whole invests a large majority of their capital in existing IP if not horror. I love A24 but they're pretty much single-handedly keeping the original, mid-budget sector afloat. Bottom line, the industry could nonetheless use far less tentpoling
