Great stuff guys! All great tips. A longer pre-race warm-up is very important and underdone by so many people. In a 5k race, you just don't have time to "use the first km as warm-up"!

Thanks Clive! Yes I totally agree with this - very little room for error in a 5k too! Thanks so much for watching, we’re glad you found it useful 😃

Great tips. At 49 I have brought my 5km times down from 21:00 to 17:49 in the past 3 years doing basically those exact tips. The only thing I would add is to put a slower warm up and warm down on every run. It helps add to the mileage as well as make the run itself plus recovery easier. Around 10 minutes is ideal but you can start with 5 at first. Just slow jogging. Consistency in mileage and increasing that long run over time will get you there. 😀

Wow Grant that’s an amazing achievement 👏 well done and a great extra tip! I think as runners, we sometimes forget about the importance of warming up, but it makes such a difference! Thank you for watching! 😊

Great to have advice for non elite runners and people like me who have run for a few years but have not improved my 5K time by much. Loved the style and pace. More please.

Some good tips there! Strength training in the gym has been helping me improve my times as well as gradually upping my mileage 🙂

For beginners, no sprints. tempos or intervals should be done at all. For some reason, many people ignore this and suffer constant injuries, plateaus and frustration as a result. When I got going all I did was 3-4 60 min runs per week at Zone 2 plus one hard effort Parkrun. Within 3 months I was easily getting a sub-20.

Yeah lots of advice out there on how to improve your times in the 5K. I think it is a gradual process but consistency is key. The more serious and more "best practices" you do, the more likely you'll get a good outcome. I think one overlooked asset is "focus". It is hard to train for multiple race distances and exceed at all of them. If you want to do a fast 5K, do fast 5K style workouts. I used to grind out long long runs and wear myself down so that I couldn't do speed sessions. My endurance improved, but my lack of desire for faster sessions dwindled. Enjoy your videos!

This is a great point Eddie and so true, focus is key, it’s so hard to be good at every distance at the same time! Focusing with a training plan on a goal race is a great shout! Thanks as always for watching - so glad you’re enjoying them 😃 hope your running is going well!

I think thats where i am now Eddie! Was really pleased after doing a fairly Hilly,pretty warm HM pretty much on my base fitness with no spedific hm training(decided day before to enter) just 1 1/2 min slower than pb and decided with that out the way i would focus on getting that parkrun pb with some proper focused 5k training. Within a day i had decided having enjoyed the Hm that was close to home and run by a lovely bunch and having also done my 1st marathon with them earlier this year i should go for the triple and do the very hilly 10 mile trail race they do in october to complete the set,so training gone in a different direction. Definately?! after that i am going to focus on 5k for a bit.

@@those2runnersYeah, I have a bit of race overload of late. Just did the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon here in Salt Lake. Hilly and Hot. Wasn't really racing per say but got it done. Coming up to a well deserved race break soon.

Like a couple of pro presenters now! I don't do that many parkruns but after just one at sub 21 in 2021 i had a run of 8 from october 22 all 20 something and pb at 20:20 twice,done a few recently and both back in 21's almost a minute off my best. The faster times came by accident on the back of a really good HM training block last year, But since really upping my endurance training for marathon the 5k seems to have gone backwards,not 100% sure its not a mental thing at least partially!
@those2runners
@those2runners 11 месяцев назад
Haha Ollie you’re far too kind 😂 we try haha! That’s some great times and PBs you have there! I think you can expect your shorter distances to dwindle a little whilst you’re training for a marathon, but your base fitness will be so good afterwards if/when you come to work on speed again! Great running, good luck with the training and thanks as always for watching! 😃
