I think there are a bunch of "purchases" that go into it. You can like or comment or subscribe or donate or even share the video to other platforms or buy merch, etc.. The list goes on for the micro-actions that can both help/hurt the creator at any second. Thats why it's such a tooth and nail fight for your attention. All that fragmentation is what hides that fact that this is all transactional.

You're talking about a British company, which was partly government owned. Atrioc Talked about the Dutch East Indian Company (which actually had land in Indonesia, and did not own India as atrioc said). The Dutch East India Company was actually completely private owned and was run for profit. It was also the first company in history that ever issued stock, although that is not how it is valued today.

Because people will gladly drop almost any amount of money to just get something fixed. Most people, myself included, don’t want to bother having to do research to find the most efficient way to do things. Tell me a price, and if it sounds reasonable, I’ll pay it. Make the experience feel professional and boom I’m satisfied enough. Same goes for most of their products in general. Are there better and cheaper wireless earbuds? Probably. Do I care to look through multiple options till I find it? Nah.

The entire point is that they scam you on repairs, you don't have to do the research yourself when you go to a third party shop either, the difference is that the third party shop will look at the faulty product, troubleshoot and find what's wrong, tell you what's wrong and how much it will cost to fix it. Apple will take your faulty product, not find out what the actual problem is, not tell you what the actual problem is, and then they just change all the fucking internals and charge you way more than nescessary, or they will cite you a price so high that you're better off just buying a new one... Whole point is that the cost of getting shit "fixed" by apple is very rarely reasonable at all and they don't even justify why the price they give you is "reasonable", you're literally just taking their word for it. Meanwhile they turn around to fight against your right to repair and actively try to screw over repair shops that actually offer a fair price for said repairs... The reason people are happy with apple's service is because they are getting scammed without knowing it. They go there, the people look at the problem for a short time, are told how much it will cost and if you're lucky they might even give you some bullshit reason as to why it's borked (not even uncommon for them to literally just lie and say there's water damage or something and use that to justify swapping the entire motherboard). Then you're given a price and an option to buy a new product instead, choose whatever you want and you're out of there feeling that it went fast and smooth and with no clue you just got ripped off...

That's why I was super surprised when Atrioc said they invest in post-purchase. You mean by making it as hard as possible to repair/replace parts of their products and charging mad money for repairs at their shops? Very consumer-friendly post-purchase experience.

@@mzou89 I think most people honestly just don't know they are getting scammed and if they knew they'd probably be a lot more critical of apple service. Even your mom who know nothing about tech would feel differently about the support she got if she knew the guy she talked to straight up lied about what was wrong so that he could charge you 5-10 times more for the repair... Edit: to elaborate a bit, most people when they go to get service will trust the service employee when he tells them there's water damage, why wouldn't they? And so when they are quoted a price they don't question it, maybe they know that it might cost a little more, but knowing that you're paying a small premium is very different from knowing that you're straight up being lied to the whole way through...

The high quality view of Apple, and how Apple is seen as a luxury brand is a conscious tactic used by Apple. It isn’t advertising per se, but by associating their products with you yourself being successful, they do market themselves in a way that other tech companies (generally) fail to do.

My understanding is that Apple uses that aspect of their brand, the recognition and notoriety, in both pre and post purchase. Yes you become a walking billboard of sorts, so they gain free marketing from each person who purchase an Apple product. However you also get the status of showing off you have an Apple giving you those juicy endorphins you get from being a fancy lad. But yes you’re right, it’s a bit of an over lap that completes two goals at once, much like the green vs. blue bubble.

What are the benefits?

I think that comes down to target demographic. Asking for donations from 100,000 gaming fans vs 100,000 Formula 1 fans will yield ridiculously different output volumes. Critical role aims at a pretty different target audience to the conventional streamer and that demographic is generally going to be mor older and more financially stable in life. They'll also on average have less free time so be more willing to financially support a good use of their free time. Conventional streaming aims at people who have HUGE amounts of free time, which is kind of naturally aiming for the lowest value consumers.

When was this? I mean I use NVidia now, but back when I had a r9 280x (around the time of the gtx7xx series) I had no problems with drivers...

@@Kriss_941 I had a r9 380x and also had no problems , so I also thought people where complaining about nothing. Just anecdotal evidence, but I had a 5700xt until recently and it had a lot of problems and different drivers would be unstable in certain games and crash my computer. I have had 3 nvidia gpus and never had problems with crashing or stability issues so I think maybe the new ones are worse or maybe some people just get unlucky.

@@adwardosa5575 I mean the most problems I've had is with my current Nvidia GPU, but to be fair it's not the drivers at fault, think it's just my old 980ti is starting to show it's age and a dark spot on the back of the PCB roughly opposite to one of the memory modules tells me that it's probably about time for it to go into retirement... Frequent crashes are really getting to me lately... If only I could actually get my hands on any of the new GPU's, starting to consider team red again, because they seem to have a little more stock and dlss isn't supported in most games I play...

I have to log in to GeForce to update my Nvidia drivers and that is fucking stupid.

I've used AMD for the past 6 years and never had any trouble with drivers, I have an RX 480 and you literally just go to their website, download a single driver and it installs. Literally as easy as it gets. Then they have a control panel that can automatically find drivers for you from then on. So I don't know what you're talking about, it's literally the same procedure as with Nvidia.
