Have you ever sat on an INDIAN State Bus? if yes then you must have had an experience of your life,
and that experience must have been terrifying! I am saying this because in INDIA we see so many bus accidents which almost 85% happen because of dangerous driving, but, should we only target drivers for such driving practices
in this video, we have tried to decode exactly why INDIAN bus drivers drive fast and who is the real culprit.

I'm happy that you have touched on the health issue that drivers face. I had colleagues whose father was a driver in MSRTC or BEST and have retired with terrible occupational disorders. Poor ventilation, engine heat, sound, and horns have given them high BP and hearing disorders. Stress due to driving in traffic is the cause of hypertension. Fewer access to drinking water and toilets on the route has led to kidney stones. I have traveled by State Transport buses of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and also Private Buses in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Paschim Bengal. In my experience, State Transport buses may not be fancy, but they are driven properly and safely. Yes, I have seen severe accidents involving them; but speeding accidents or due to fog most only on NH 1. The rest have been in hilly terrain due to mechanical failures... except for one incident where in Himachal I stopped a bus coz the driver was visibly sleepy and visibly napping in between. Also, I have seen an MSRTC Driver getting a reprimand as the bus was 10 minutes early at a checkpoint on NH 66. Private buses - sorry but they are rouges and drive horribly. They are freaks who do Mumbai to Pune in 4 hours picking up people at every point possible and follow it up from Pune to Hyderabad in 7 hours. Why the drivers keep talking aloud at night is just to keep awake.

My father also lost his life due to reckless driving by a private bus which was overtaking by coming on the wrong side at high speed, since it was running late. It's been more than 6 years since Karnataka SRTC implemented a speed lock of 90-95 on its luxury bus fleet and this year 80 on its latest service Ambari Utsav. I used to hate it when the bus would just be cruising on a certain speed and in volvo buses it feels very sluggish. But I must say it is undoubtedly one of the best decisions made by the Corp. They have ensured that the sense of responsible driving instills in the crew operating the buses. I would prefer to have a comfortable and safe journey over the one where my heart would be in my mouth constantly. Kudos to Karnataka SRTC.

This is true!! Even happened with me and My Dad and me fall down in Bajri(Sand) near road.. It's about 4-6months ago, We were driving in our scooty Jupitor 125 (with Combi-Break and no abs), in The National highway In Dehradoon-Haridwar marg.. When Suddenly There's a car approaching and a Bus behind us tries to overtake us at the same time. (the road was also slightly bend for diversion as one road was blocked due to construction). The Bus driver was in such a Hurry That he honked😡, When we were very close to him...My dad in shock Tried to give him side when there was no road to do that it was Rubble(Bajri) near the road... 😢 He used brake and we Fall down on the road like Leafs by gust of wind..😢😢 this happened Because Tyres locked and Loose traction due to Bajri😥.. Ham raggad te chale guy kuch door tak and the bus driver hardly noticed anything..He went straight like nothing happened!! I got Skin pealoff my hand and my pant also torn off like those Knee fashion type.. and Fortunately my Dad didn't had any major damage..He was wearing Helmet and wasa bit lucky as well. Nobody helped us..We stand up Look at our vehicle and drive by to near dhaba...My dad was furious about This insident he said only if he knew the no. Plate of the bus😡😡.. But The lesson he gave me was-- Never every try to overspeed as U might be a Confident good driver but Others are not!! Accept Your own mistake as well and Move on but remember Never Do anything Stupid on the Highway.. (For me it was -- U can respawn in Game but Not in real-life). From that day I myself Drive at 40-50km even on Highway...We are Good now BTW. Also I believe The Bajri on road or side of the road are Death traps..and should be removed immediately.. also every vehicle should come with ABS.❤ I hope U would have learnt something Good from our experience..Be safe.

Another issue which you forgot to mention is no stated time difference between two buses specially private operators on the same route. This creates a pressure on the driver to drive fast to reach the next stop and pick up as many passengers before the next bus from another company arrives. Sometimes you will see the buses involved in dangerous driving just to beat the other bus to the next stop.
@rockasstley7917
@rockasstley7917 Год назад
That's a good point. Private buses here in South-west Karnataka tend to compete with other buses on the same route. Some buses are aware of this and stop for a while until the next bus has covered a few stops, but other drivers are bloodthirsty and play GTA on the road with overcrowded buses. Government buses on the other hand, are budget roller coasters.

He would honk before oevrtaking and even passing by from lane [2 lane nh] amazing discipline but he was the only 1 driver i think was displined rest other same taking the word lal pari at its value

One of the reasons the Kerala state-run buses namely the KSRTC creates a lot of accidents is that they have a degree of immunity from the law when they get into accidents. There was this horrific manslaughter on road committed by a Ksrtc driver when he deliberately forces two students riding a bike into the back-wheels of a nearby truck that was running parallel to the bus. Those two students had previously been in an altercation with this particular bus-driver. It took a lot of protests in media and among the people to finally arrest that man. These drivers have a tendency to get away from crimes.

What you need to understand is, alongside trains, bus is a major transport among public as train tracks cannot be built everywhere. Hence the more people use the bus, lesser the traffic and lesser the carbon footprint. I understand there are many cases of reckless driving in India, but majority are highly skilled driver who have spent a long time on Training and experience. They are travelling up n down daily, and giving service to passengers. I believe majority of the accidents are caused due to negligence of other vehicles (the church and volvo b7r accident you have shown). Bus drivers are also humans and wants to return to their home safely. No body would risk their life by driving reckless. Today I have gained a lot of experience by travelling in buses (been in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal and in 22+ RTC of India) . You can find that on my channel as well. Bus drives commission model doesn’t work everywhere, and in the end if you showcase buses in this way, people will choose cars to travel and will result in huge traffic. What I feel is drivers are bound to drive like this only because there is no lane discipline. You would find trucks on fast lane, so buses have to go zig zag to maintain time, which makes driving a little unsafe. It is better if we endorse lane discipline to keep all traffic moving smoothly.

@00:43 എന്റെ മോനെ . നമ്മ KSRTC Although it may sound funny, I must admit that my daily bus commute from Haripad to Chengannur and back is not for the faint-hearted. The winding roads combined with thrill-seeking bus drivers are a perfect recipe for a near-death experience. To make matters worse, I always sit in the last row. Not because I like the view, but rather because I figure if there ever is an accident, I might as well go out with a bang since I can't afford to be hospitalized.

My father used to be a driver in a private bus his salary was rupee 2500 in a month fixed and was given money according to how fast he can complete a round and how many passengers were traveling... So you can see how much less they Are paid and what they had to do to survive and complete their bare minimum with how much they earn..

On an instance recently kerala government installed 726 camera across kerala for checking and penalising traffic violations of all sorts, But the opposition and media were crying, they were abusing state for plunder from pocket of common man.. State has post poned fining till 20.5. 2023, but the result was evident, accidents decreased steeply since 20.4.2023, everyone started wearing seat belts, 90% riders wears helmet, even people started strictly adhering to lane rules. It's the system i feel every state shall adopt

Superb content. In smaller towns, the use of vikrams, autos and e-rickshaws are a headache aswell. Most of them doesnt have breaklights, doesnt use indicators, stops in the middle of road to board and deboard passengers etc. In delhi, i have even seen kids running the e-rickshaws. In case of any accident, the drivers of these vikrams, autos, e-rickshaws acts like goons. In many cases i have even seen police taking their side claiming one can claim accident insurance. The point of claiming insurance is not a issue. Point is why do we need to do so, and go through the trouble. Only if the admistration acts strictly on the smaller mode of public transports. And the drivers of these transports understand the nuances they create.

KSRTC from Karnataka is most reliable - affordable and responsive state transport, They have speed governers across their buses, they offer wide range of buses across the classes, They are good, and from my experience, Private services other than VRL, Are not so good but they are well maintained, Affordable wise, KSRTC is best. Unfortunately only issue with KSRTC is they use the old and used buses in the rural areas, Which are worst maintained. Employes are good and usually they are travellers friendly, provided you use local language. Employes from HK region are also good in Hindi.

Such a well researched topic by you guys. I live in Panvel and here also the bus drivers do rash driving all the time. They are instructed by the authorities to not get off the bus if they are to get protection by the authorities. So in scenario of conflict, they are protected by the authorities, + factoring in their monetary incentives.. results in rash driving & accidents.

I loved the way u preseneted and kudos for addressing this topic. I firmly believe the primary reason for accidents is the lack of proper rule following,I know this since I am from kerala. This problem could only be solved if govt directly implements somthng and involves in this

The solution is pretty simple if government wants to implement it. 1. Every Bus be it be private or government owened should have dash cam installed, which can mesaure the bus speed and driving habit of the driver. 2. Speed sensors which don't allow the bus to go over certain speed or speed board should be installed on bus which helps passenger to know whether the bus is over speeding or not. And if they do, a helpline number should also be added where complaint could be registered. 3. Government should pay for the health and life insurance for it's driver and for private drivers they could avail atleast 50% for the payment from government or any insurance policy for the bus drivers at nominal cost. Along with better pay, money is always a good motivator. 4. To meet the expenses, government could hike a price in ticket fairs a little bit like 2-5% for short distance and 5-10% for long distance. 5. Lastly yes we need more buses as over crowding is also a problem.

In Tamil Nadu, Govt bus driver's incentive is now based on fuel saving they make in every trips and so scene in TN had changed, Now a days long distance Govt buses drive in optimal speed with least acceleration and around 80 kmph consistently. Fuel is saved and safer ride for passengers. Governments should provide incentive for fuel saving driving styles and other parameters which are safe and savings to the owning organization

I am not from TN, but worked in Chennai between 2014-2016. Chennai has good bus facility, ample number of buses, and frequent buses. There also used to be day pass for unlimited number of trips within the city. The bus fare is very minimal, and buses never cross 60kmph. It shows up when people care for their city and live well. I miss Chennai!

1 bus takes up the same space as 2 big SUVs and can easily carry 3 times as many people. Also most of our cities were built in the 19th centaury and cannot accommodate a metro rail system which can access every locality. As it stands, buses are easily the most efficient mode of transportation in most of our cities.
@turtle3930
@turtle3930 Год назад
@@Adithya13303yes many cities can't accommodate a metro rail system but they should accommodate it wherever it's possible and they can install a 60kmph speed cap for city buses and an 80kmph speed cap for state to state buses to minimise the accidents caused by overspeeding and once in a while the authorities can check if the speedcap has been removed or been tampered with

If we just blindly increase buses on the same existing routes, that will happen. But, what we actually need is better and more intelligent logistical analysis on passenger density, timing, boarding and deboarding information. Then we can make better shorter routes to each buses, meaning more buses, but same density of buses on same route but more frequent rides and shorter-faster journeys. Less people in each ride, while they don't have to travel for more time and distance. If we can outsource to some logistics company to get this data and reorient the routes with AI...We can easily fix this issue.

The problem is with private bus they want to fill the bus at max and therefore become very slow, they have tendency to fill the bus no matter what time it takes 3 hour journey can become 4.5 hours because they stop at random place and fill the bus.
