Artificial Sweeteners are hidden in more than 6000 food products in the US alone according to the FDA. Sucralose, Aspartame, Monkfruit and Stevia play a popular role in diet culture and "allow" many people to consume sweet foods and drinks without adding sugar.
But how dangerous are the chemical sweeteners? We're taking a look into science and I will talk about my own experience with a heavy consumption of artificial sweeteners for 10 years.

Monkfruit and stevia are OK for me- as are some of the other natural non-nutritive sweeteners like erythritol, maltilol, etc that bother some people. The artificial toxins like aspartame, sucralose, ace-K, etc give me specific symptoms- either the headaches like you mentioned, or a worsening of dysautonomia symptoms. Sucralose actually changes DNA; those studies were in the news a couple of months ago, I think. I drank so much diet soda back in the 80s and 90s (and started in childhood, since diet cola was dad's favorite soda, so that's what was in the house), and after being diagnosed with dysautonomia (POTS/neurocardiogenic syncope), I noticed more symptoms when I was consuming artificial sweeteners. Fortunately , erythritol and stevia are in a lot of products now, to help with some foods. For others, I simply quit using them at all if they only have artificial sweeteners. I think it's been about 20 years since I stopped knowingly consuming artificial sweeteners, and stick with the natural options. I've also quit anything with high fructose corn syrup, which is known to raise triglycerides. I totally agree (even as a diabetic and RN), natural sugar is just fine in moderation for the vast majority of people. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, and sent to 'diabetes school', they encouraged planned 'treats' with sugar, and taught us in the class how to work that into a meal plan without any longterm issues. I worked as a RN for 20 of the 35 years I had my license, and never saw anyone come in with sugar toxicity (there were diabetics who didn't manage their sugars or had infections that raised blood sugars- but in a non-diabetic, never saw toxic reactions to sugar).

Thank you so much for your response and for sharing your experiences! I will definitely look the studies you mentioned up! And it's crazy how influenced we are by the habits of those around us!
