I think Rocky is in the place he wants to be now.. he made chart music to establish his name and build a fanbase & now makes the music that he wants to make for the fans who want it.. not the first artist to do this & certainly not the last!
@@REXae86 depends on which circles you are talking about. To the modern hip hop community he's still regarded as one of the greats & still has people waiting for drops and features from him
Versatility, charisma - Rocky. Hype, production - Travis. Rocky should've been what Travis is right now. A gigantic star with people hyping for him. He need to release quickly.
It’s sad to see people trolling A$AP Rocky by comparing him to Travis Scott, just because he wasn’t putting music out there, put some respect on my boy
ASAP. Rocky is definitely not forgotten lol. Bro is on Metro Boomin‘s album and he also is on the new Spider-Man album. He’s literally everywhere. He just hasn’t been making albums, but he has his foot in everything basically movies fashion commercials he make sures that you see his face and one of those departments
Correct. this video confused me. Im guessing the newest gen probably doesnt care as much about rocky as others but they fs know him. Anyone over the age of 16 probably knows who asap rocky is tbh. Bro is literally dating fucking Rhianna so I doubt his popularity will ever go down. He is quiet frankly considered hip hop hall of fame.
@@KingBenny I almost see it like an earl sweatshirt type of situation , prioritise the art and expression and have a cult fan base even if the general population don’t really shed too much light on it.
Who tf told you rocky fell off? Dude is still regarded as one of the pioneers of the style of ambient cloud rap that he brought to the mainstream inspiring artists like carti , lean etc. He still relevant asf
@@TubbyTheodore Maybe 10 years ago lol. Mostly everything past 2016 is mid or garbage. ALLA was decent-good in a sense but still hard to listen to idk why.
@@John-so2pd live love asap is a 9.5, long live and alla are 7-7.5 and testing is like a 2 or 3. hell even that testing rating might generous, its unlistenable garbage, so not surprised he tried to abandon music
Mans hasn't been dropping albums in a minute but he was one of the guys who defined the 2010s and in the early to mid 2010s, mans had a cool movement in terms of fashion, hairstyles, music and etc. Mans is solid
He’s not forgotten he’s just under appreciate rocky is a legend the stuff every one wears now the mobb been did but if asap yams did not die rocky would have Grammys an be more appropriate he’s still a legend tho
@@jenniferhardesty9298 oh i mean... like technically no one as popular as rocky is ever forgotten but i mean he's forgotten relative to the rest of the rappers in the 2010's that were his level of popular... he's like the least relevant of them all
this is the biggest cap ever. Rocky 100% definitely still gets mentioned amongst the 2010s rap. Furthermore this guy is always getting mentioned in the media.
Furthermore is a crazy word for a youtube comment ngl... I respect it. Anyways for research on the video I looked at a bunch of mount Rushmore ppl did, Complex's top 10 rappers of the 2010's, as well as some other lists and forums where rocky was usually left out of top 10 convos
There was a leak I saw on reddit a while ago with rocky in Chernobyl with all these weird “freak” type characters and man was riding in a tank from my memory it was sick I hope it drops with his next album because it is genuinely chaotic and what we need rn is Rocky to come back with that hit. I wish I screen recorded it I’ve been waiting for it to to drop since I saw it and it just hadn’t shown up yet
Song was ass, I heard it. It's just another Babushka Boi type of track, gimmicky music not quality music. It's not a hit either. "Hit" is a song that will get played for years and not fizzle out after a week. The video was interesting but NOT the song. He recorded that video in 2021 and it's now 2023 and it still hasn't dropped.
What I think ASAP's point is might be similar to Andre 3000. He just doesn't feel the urge of proving himself by making more albums. He established himself well enough throughout the 2010s, dropped whole 4 great projects, set up his own fanbase and is living a happy life, featuring on someone else's shit occasionally.
@@KingBenny people fuck with rocky and they always will 💯 he’s made music and rapped in a way that literally everyone wanted to copy after live love asap
@@KingBenny time isn’t a factor when you create things that live forever. that’s the difference between rocky and every other rapper post 2010, playboi carti is nice tho
What bugs me is that I really do believe that rocky could be on the league of drake-kendrick-cole-travis-tyler. But is seems that his music career is always in the backseat. Which of course is his choice. It's a case of missed potential.
Rocky's issues are label-related and have been for years since ASAP Yams died. I believe he owns his masters, and/but the ASAP Mob have a large stake in his record deal - ASAP Yams negotiated the contract. So if Rocky makes money off music, he has to give some of that money to the ASAP Mob, and nobody in the group is as famous or rich as Rocky is so he's doing them a big favor technically if he's successfully musically. If he does fashion and acting, he doesn't owe them anything because it's a different contract. So the reason Rocky's rap career is in limbo is because he's gotten older now and he doesn't want to give them money any more by releasing music, he's been that way since 2018. RCA understand that too, which is why they don't promote him and his album sales kept decreasing and now he's 5 years with no album. Rocky is not going to make a comeback, he is finished. He's trying to try to cement himself as a fashion icon and dust his rap career. It's too late for him to do the numbers he was doing back in 2011-2015. Also the content of his music has just gotten progressively worse. What made Rocky unique just isn't there any more. That Clams Casino/cloud rap stuff that made him stand out, he no longer makes. So Rocky neither makes unique music or radio music even in the rare times he drops an official song. And the record label don't like artists who don't make radio music because how is the record label going to make money? Rocky's music isn't marketable. The only shot Rocky has to get another hit in the future is through TikTok. The same problem is also with Playboi Carti as well. Realistically the label don't really have any reason to support Carti because his music isn't going to reach anyone beyond his fanbase. "Magnolia" is still his only radio hit. Travis has a few radio hits, but it's been 3 years since Travis had a radio hit, unless you count Trance possibly but it's on Metro's album.
Watched some of the vid, not all of it, But essentially a big problem with a lot of these videos people make on Rocky is they fail to understand how Rocky blew up in the first place. They just skim over Rocky's peak, which was the first two years of his career. You need to understand the Tumblr era and Live Love ASAP to truly grasp Rocky's level of popularity. Live. Love. ASAP was one of the most downloaded tapes on DatPiff, and Rocky had a huge cult fanbase, at the time. He used to make a combination of trippy and erotic Southern songs, cloud rap, and actual good trap music. His voice had a certain swagger, and he had an insane flow. He had a formula - he was rapping in a way where he would make dope sounding rhymes to a beat without actually having serious bars. Over time, Rocky moved away from this sound on each project he's dropped, with increasing release gaps. If Rocky had just stuck with the style that popularized him, he would have been fine. He never needed to change his sound as there was no evidence that it was dying out. Carti made the cloud rap shit in 2017 and he blew up. Rocky wasn't making cloud rap anymore at this point. He was just making songs with all sorts of different beats, there was no identity, and he still has no identity to this day. Rocky's entry into the fashion scene also made him lose a lot of credibility among hip-hop fans as he started to overdo it, people just became shocked by him rather than interested in him. Him painting his nails, wearing skirts, and trying women's clothing was something that pretty much KO'd him off, he lost his gangster image that he had in the mixtape era. A lot of heads fucked with him heavy and then just couldn't keep up with his antics. Recently he had a song blow on TikTok from 2011 but shit's old. Currently Rocky is washed af and beyond repair. He would need a huge comeback track and I can't see it happening.
tbh.... i knew ab the tumblr stuff and all that, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal... even with artists who blew up on soundcloud I usually don't talk about that bc it's usually not their best (at least to me)
@@KingBenny You won't know if you weren't around. Rocky has tracks on random YT channels from 10 years ago with more views than his current drops. "Pretty Flacko" prod by SGP has 8.7m views. He was POPPING POPPING in 2012. He lost his sauce, got feminized, and people stopped taking him seriously.
Tbh, I dont think A$AP Rocky really ever cared that much to make music and now since he's sitting on a bag where he doesnt have to ever make music ever again we might as well group him with the Rihannas and Frank Oceans of the world where we are lucky if they ever put out anything ever again
Macklemore has 30 million monthly listeners... and thats not me saying that rocky is in the same tier as macklemore just highlighting the fact that monthly listeners isnt the best way to grade someone's popularity
5:22 This is so true!!! ALSO with Daytona... Culture 2/Scorpion/Nasir/Everything is Love/KOD/Black Panther SDTK, Spider-Man: Into the Spider SDTK SoundCloud era etc. did take away from ASAP Rocky Testing album!
Rocky still gotta really unique style compared to alotta rappers out there, and testing was completely different from a lot of what rappers make now. And, his fashion is still superior to pretty much every other rapper out there (other than Tyler who he's equal to)
@@KingBenny They aren't huge fans of the genre tbh, so they were just never exposed. Not a case of them forgetting, more like they hadn't come across much of his stuff
@@paulvitala8367 that's exactly the point. nowadays more people know him for fashion and being rihanna's bd than for the star that he was. total difference from how he was viewed in 2011-2013
@oares4880 i wanted to defend him but seeing what's he done in the past 9 years shows us who the real asap rocky is. All he cares about is money, fashion and women. So ultimately his fate was he ended up with an overworshipped celeb that overshadows his career and he just does a few fashion ads. In the early 10's, rocky was a killer southern wannabe MC. clearly yams injected him with steroids at the time and then he went back to being average with a few moments of brilliance after he passed. while i think it's too late for him, if he gets out of his relationship or goes to jail, it would be beneficial to him. he shot another asap member, from the purple swag MV, the video was made public. if justice is served (i think there could be a verdict next month) he should serve 9 years in jail. we probably won't hear from him again.
Because of the Spider man track and Praise the Lord still trending. Most people listening to the Spider man song do not care about Rocky respectfully speaking. They just like it for the end credits.
The world literally cant handle an nyc artist on top. Imagine if DAMN came outta brownsville. Or if Drake was from Queens, he wouldnt be questioned. J cole had to come Mohammad. The CIA has docs on Joey. Long live Nu Yorica
The modern underground fashion is almost based off of 2012 asap mob w the all black ish , plus carti wouldn’t have been discovered without yams n rocky,
@@KingBenny yeah dawg you definitely don’t go outside, they got dudes like Tyga, French Montana and others with big ass hits throughout the years that don’t draw crowds like Rocky. His stage presence is insane and his crowds are always massive and high energy. Big crowds get you headliner spots not hits.
since ppl started making mount rushmores and no one included him.... like not a single one... thats the type of shit only rappers that are irrelevant get, and not saying that rocky is irrelevant he's just been forgotten in terms of how good he is, not forgotten in terms of how good his music is
Lol there are too many🍆 riding stans in this comment section. No he's not saying he literally has been forgotton but now hes more so overlooked compared to his contemporaries like travis scott
