Bro… let’s go. I presume it’s in military time, not am or pm. 9 to 11 is 2 hours. Add another 4 minutes and 55 seconds to go from 9:20:15 to 11:25:10 Time elapsed is 2 hours, 4 minutes and 55 seconds.
My grandmother and her brother were arguing over the check a few months ago and he literally tackled her over the table to get the check from her... We're not asian, but goddamn I will never forget that.
@@cynacist1823 Lol the brother did. They're in their mid 60s and they're twins. Plus my great uncle works out a lot lol so tackling my grandma probably didn't hurt him at all. And it didn't really hurt my grandma because he didn't want to hurt her but like it sure startled her lol. And saved her over a hundred bucks lmao
This is basically what my mom does when someone decides to pay for their share of pretty much anything. It feels like it could grow into a fist fight at any moment 😂😂
I was literally at the asian grocery store a couple days ago watching a woman and her dad fight over who paid for the groceries, and the poor cashier was standng there like "👁👄👁"
I have been in that fight. I have also come back to my car after class with a note on the windshield saying 'we bought you groceries, they're in the trunk'. How did you find my car in this ridiculously big parking lot? Missing persons departments just need to hire Asian aunties.
It's a very common thing in Southern European countries too. My grandma would pretend she was going to the toilet and when she was back she said she paid already. Sneaky 🤣!
Was cracking up watching this one - reminded me of my dad and my uncle. Then seeing you beaming talking about your new TV show just made me so happy. Wishing you all the best.
It's so funny, I'm Chinese and I was literally telling the story to a friend less than 20 minutes ago about how my parents, aunts, and uncles all competed to pay first when we finished a meal at a family reunion or a meetup. They still compete to this day and my aunt won that last time.
I am Chinese and my parents can definitely relate to this every time we eat with friends. It was so awkward every time witnessing the fight over the bill as kids lol.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME LAUGH TODAY I REALLY NEEDED IT. I grew up around Asian people so this was especially funny for me because a friend of mine's family were exactly like this. I wish you nothing but success and keep up the good work
The fight for the bill gets epic in my family. To the point where my mom and aunties go to the bathroom together so no one can use that to sneak off and pay. So one time my auntie got really tricky. She said "that waiter is so handsome, I wonder if his father is single?" Then she got up and told us she was going to ask for his father's number and we were all laughing so hard or dying from second hand embarrassment that we didn't notice that she actually went to go pay the bill.
As a kid to asian parents this is 100% accurate xD My proudest moment was when I pulled the bathroom trick on my parents when I got my first paycheck :D
Yep. My mom faved trick. However, there was one time that my mom told me to "use the restroom", I got told by the staff that the "uncle" (mom's friend) already paid for the entire meal ahead of time. He winked at me when I got back to the table.
Yeah 1/2 my family is Japanese and they pretty much trained me in this same style of check warfare. My Japanese big sister in law pretty much told me growing up that if you are on a first date with a Japanese girl and you can’t pull off the “pay the bill without her knowing” move, you’re already below average
Omg I love your videos and then seeing you at the end. You are an amazing actor and your expert grasp of facial expressions, and accents, and nuances is insane! I root for you and I hope you achieve everything! I am so happy you are getting to see your dreams start to materialize, you deserve it and I can speak for everyone here that we are so proud of you!
" He got a Lamborghini! I thought he could only afford a Beeforghini" made me laugh way more than necessary. Keep up the amazing work Steven, and congrats for your show !
The ending of the video where Steven expresses his dreams and gratitude really made me stop and smile. I have a OCD rule where I don’t subscribe to channels cause it’s not really necessary but I did here just for you Steven as a reminder to myself to be kind and hard working!
BRO SAME LOL it becomes a full on brawl while the waiters just stand to side enjoying the show, trying to accept someone's card before they are dragged away by somebody else trying to pay
You all should split. No single person should pay for 20 ppl. That's crazy. As an asian I'm guessing this is actually a few family. Siblings with kids and going out with parents? Each sibling should pay for their family and share cost for parents.
@@RonLarhz First of all, it's a matter of honor & privilege. good luck trying to convince anyone over the age of 50 otherwise, especially when they're loaded. & then, paying for 20 ppl ain't actually that much of a big deal on such occasions. uncles & aunties who would fight for the bill like that, have no problems even paying for 100 if the family actually gets that big.
I'm from the Netherlands but my wife is from Vietnam, last time we were there at a family reunion dinner in Vietnam this is exactly what happened. The whole family was fighting at the end of the meal. Eventually the one that "won" only had to pay for 8 beers and everyone was super confused. After we had ordered the food I went to the bathroom and also paid already. I got mad respect from the aunties for my sneaky bill paying game 😂
I speak for the whole of the Netherlands, that you have betrayed your country, your kin and your king. How dare you pay for the whole bill, instead of splitting it evenly and let everyone pay with a Tikkie?!
@@StevenHe omg you made my day!! You’re my favorite fellow creator. I started my channel because I was inspired by you and Jennie. As an Asian we are not encouraged to be creative. Practically, I’m still an attorney in Hollywood. If you ever need an attorney I’d love to support you. ❤️❤️❤️
As an Indian this is so true and when family goes for dinner they normally take 1 hr in deciding who will pay plus this applies to online food delivery also for family dinners.🇮🇳🙏
I’m white and my family is like this. We went to a restaurant my cousin owned and they fought over who got to pay the bill for ages. Then the waiter told us it would be free (due to the owner) and my family still wanted to pay. 😂
@@StevenHe Yes. Ang moh feels that if u love your family you shouldn't take advantage of them. Meanwhile us asians are cheapskates and sometimes even emotional blackmailing family to get free stuff. Personally, I'll like free stuff but i DON'T demand/be passive aggressive about it. 😂😂😂
Yeah I’m Nigerian American and we went to my Nigerian Uncle’s restaurant. When I tried to pay, he said, “its my restaurant, why would you pay?” And then he proceeded to go ahead and pay. When I asked, he said, “Its my restaurant - how could I NOT pay at my own restaurant?”
@@drunkvegangal8089 Reciprocation of this kind is the foundation of humanity. It played a central role in our success, as overlords and annihilators of the planet. Yeyy us.
I was always sooo embarrassed as a kid when we went out to eat with all the relatives and they started shouting/fighting over the bill. Now as an adult I’m thinking I’d have to save up to be able to go out to eat with family cause I’d have to try to at least fight for the bill and be able to pay if I actually won! 😂😂
@@thorsonofodin3210 I don’t fight for the bill with non-family. I’ve only had a meal with my relatives once as an adult after leaving home and I don’t remember who paid the bill and how it was decided. 🤷🏻♀️ And I never did have many Asian friends! Maybe American born Asians don’t take on the tradition of fighting for the bill.
Had to fight for the bill everytime Im going out with my GF.. This is what happen when you date people that make the same as you. Honestly, I rather this than seeing all those entitled western women who think that its a mans job to pay by default.
I love how humble Steven is by making his own series and making it available for free! This just shows he isn't doing this for the fame or fortune, he does this because he enjoys his craft. A round of 👏👏👏to Steven everybody
@@StevenHei like how you started doing steven vs steven dad and now you doing shocked stevens dad vs whatever you can think of. Im guessing you did run out of asian dad vs disapointment son cultural things to do but honestly shocked steven dad is alot better. You had me almost dead on the steven dad vs us hospital prices. Maybe you could do another one of steven dad vs shocking high prices?
We've known all along that Steven wasn't doing it for fame or fortune. He is doing it to try to prove to his dad that he's not a FAILURE! Steven's dad: You're still a failure! (Probably)
Thank you! You genuinely make my day better, I love the creativity and humor. It's nice to have some wholesome comedy with some originality. Your personality is the best part! 🙏👏💯
That is not only brilliant, but technically also extremely heartwarming and great attitude. You pay once, I pay the next time. It's a give and a take. Well done!
I was gasping for air throught the video..... what can I say? Steven never dissapoints!! And I gotta say... The most accurate rendition of Asians fighting over bill 👏👏
Huge congratulations on your show Steven! I'm proud of you for all that you've accomplished and for reaching such an ambitious goal. Thank you for giving back to your community, and continuing to produce amazing content without a paywall. It's always a wonderful thing to see people who create great entertainment thrive despite not aggressively monetizing everything. Take care man!
😂 his Failure Management sweatshirt is 50 bucks though 😅 I bet they were made by Steven's dad in China when he was a little boy for 5 bucks and he had to fight 2 lions and walk uphill both ways on one foot just to get to the factory and work 26 hours a day while also making Beijing Corn from one seed at the same time lah. 😅
One time I got into this kind of war with one of my friends. In the end I relented and let him pay the bill. The whole day he was suspicious of me, thinking I would slip some cash into his wallet or something. When he got home I called him and told him to open his book. I had hidden the cash inside his book and he screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Over the phone. Happiest day of my life
Crying, throwing up, so proud of you.. love seeing people's dreams come true, and on top of it, you're humble about it and giving back, that's an A+++++++ in my book.
Seeing that smile as he talked about his dreams coming true was the ebst thing I've seen this year. Always supporting, keep the priceless content rolling. Thank you too man, good luck!
Paying the bill on the way to the bathroom is almost like standard operating procedure for Chinese gatherings. I've had people literally dropping off their credit card with the cashier the moment they walk into a restaurant.
yeap.. went out with my friend for brunch and happen to meet her uncle's family, we immediately called for the bill to be settled directly after our order, he regretted not claiming the bill immediately when he found us dining in the same place😅 and the most epic thing after the covid era, some places let u pay without asking for bills since u can scan the QRcodes to see the receipt and process payments while still seated at your tables...(imagine everyone pulling out their smartphones like cowboys) the battle was intense🤣🤣 weird perks of asian culture~
My husband went to South Korea on business last November. Every night the CEO and my husband’s team would end the day with dinner at a restaurant. The South Korean CEO and the boss of my husband’s group would do this. My husband tried explaining it to me and I couldn’t understand what the big fuss was about, he just seen this and said, “That! That is how it was every single night”. Now I understand. Hilarious, thanks for giving me insight on this months long mystery lol
"I am honored to pay." "NO! I am honored." "Not so! I am more honored!" "I am infinitely more honored!" "I am honored beyond infinity!" It's really just a game of friendship and respect.
I'm not gonna lie, I shed a tear in the end. I'm happy for you, making your own childhood dream come true. Very inspirational. Look forward to seeing the GINORMOOOO!!! WOOO! \m/
