Acclaim definitely did SO MANY games like that, over the years! And you're right, that THQ did that almost as often. And after Acclaim stopped existing as a company, that THQ took over the role of the company doing that the most.
That was definitely a problem with licensed games and games for girls, they didn’t care much about what was in the game and just relied on the brand name attached. And I forgot about Lizzie premiering right after Zenon, Disney sure wanted the show to be a hit.
I read some of the articles written in that era about girl games, and they felt like they were written by aliens, who heard of this "human female" but clearly had no direct interaction, just some superficial observation. It's like if I were to make a game for guys, and I heard that they like trucks and Batman and made a game about a truck moving on screen collecting Batmans or something
The first full length movie I downloaded on Kazaa was Bumfights, lol. It took me about 6 days because I had to pause the download sometimes, or the connection would disconnect.
The only CDs that immediately came to mind to me for early 2000s were the Big Shiny Tunes albums. And Limp Bizkit. Thanks for the video... I know now to never pick these up with high hopes.
This was a fun video, Erin! As far as Disney bringin back Lizzie Mcquire is not surprising given that they gave Boy meets World and That’s So Raven their own Disney channel spinoffs. Why not give Lizzie Mcquire a spin-off??
I had a food fight in middle school once and I remember this one kid came up at one point to dump chocolate milk on me so instead of blocking like Lizzie with my tray I cracked him with it because I was wearing a nice shirt lol oops
One of my cousins was really into Lizzie and I remember one Christmas season when I was at TOYS R US for Black Friday my aunt begged me to get her daughter these games. I told her not to because they were bad and just because it was LM didn't mean my cousin would like them. The $5 price tag wasn't helpful either. Christmas came, my cousin played for 10min, and never again lol.
I was a victim of the "girl games." Lizzie on the Go was seriously one of my "favorites," and I have an embarrassingly disproportionate amount of Disney-branded GBA games to anything else. Definitely a lot of greater video games, even for the GBA, that I missed out on growing up with- due to that "boy" connotation, and just being plain ignorant about gaming as a kid. Well if anything is to be redeemed from those poor games, is that I did have some fun little memories of playing them. I did that fashion quiz over and over bc I had fun reading those final judgments lol. I turned into a mix of geek and Kate as an adult ☻
Hey, we all have different gaming experiences growing up! I WISH I played stuff like Castlevania when I was little, but kind of like what you said, I was drawn to cute stuff or "girl games" (besides Mario games.)
I had no clue they made any games for the show. Probably since my sister didn't play games. But I wish they could have done the show justice. And they had 3 chances lol
It was a fun series, we had it as well. My hunger for anything colourful and "Friends"-like at the time was rampant so I used to watch it. I'm the 666th like, huh. And it was 3:30 a.m. Enough youtubing for the day.
Don’t you just hate it when game developers who make shitty shovel ware titles like this because “They’re for girls so why should we put in any effort?”, when there are a lot of girl gamers who are into Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts?
I was shocked 😲 that they were bringing it back but since they did with that's so Raven with Raven's home, why not Lizzie McGuire? I know Hilary is going to do a great job with it again. I hope they also bring back even Stevens and Phil of the future. I loved that show. I also thought Hannah Montana was pretty good and even shake it up. looks like the 3rd game turned into warioware all of a sudden. by the way since it's Friday the 13th, did Jason Voorhees show up yet at your house 🏠 Erin?
Awh, you forgot Marilyn Manson among the popular music mentions. Lmao these "girl" games are so bad. "Girls! Girls like shoes! Make a level where you collect shoes!"
I don't think the problem is that they're girl games, but more that 99% of them are licensed games. Is that what games based on existing media are called? Anyway, those always suck, it's like common sense now.
That third game looks like a test that a psychiatrist would use to diagnose a patient, asking you who you relate to the most; the cherry, or the straw.
I remember playing the third one only because the rom site I got it from listed it as "Lizzie McGuire III: Revenge of the Shit" and I'd thought it was gonna be one of those romhacks with crude language and adult humour. As soon as I found out that wasn't the case, I deleted it.
Did you ever shop at Limited Too growing up? I worked there from 2003 to 2006, I remember we sold a lot of Lizzie McGuire related stuff :D (they later changed to Justice, now they're going out of business)
haha, I did! I was in middle school during the Lizzie McGuire phase, and I think the summer AFTER 8th grade they started with the Lizzie stuff. I remember thinking I was too old to go in there but I bought a lizzie shirt anyway XD
I thought i had it made when i had my own phone line for that 56k modem. Having to start a download before you left for work and school? They can't conceive it now
You should do a Kim possible gameplay through...there are 3 games and they are available on GBA....I think you would like them more than the Hillary Duff games....
Hey wow. You're using that nifty Gameboy Advance GameCube adapter thing. I used it to play so many Gameboy Advance games on Gamecube. For anybody who doesn't know, it's a device thing Nintendo made a long time ago so that people can play their Gameboy Advance games on the Gamecube.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors has a mall level. State of emergency for the PS2 and others starts inside a mall. Also, the game Zombi, released for various computers in 1986 almost entirely takes place inside a mall. It's an adventure game based on the 1978 Dawn of the Dead.
I'm on the older end of the Gen Y spectrum, too young for the NES and 7800 and an infant during the launch of the Master System. For me, it was all about Clarissa Explains It All and Beavis & Butt-Head. My mom didn't want me watching B&BH but it didn't stop me from drinking it in with my older (Read: Middle and late Gen X) cousins. That show completely changed my notions of what a cartoon could be and I respect it to this day. That said, why the hell can't developers get it right with these licensed games? They sure couldn't back in the '90s and 2000s. Not even in the '80s, as LJN's track record shows. I don't count E.T. on the 2600 because it doesn't seem like a BAD game. I saw that documentary about the E.T. burial and excavation. E.T. doesn't seem to have been buried because it was shit. People saw it as a shitty game because it was buried in that landfill in Alamogordo, NM. The only exceptions seem to be most of the Star Wars games, probably due to the nature of that franchise. I sure as fuck loved Shadows of the Empire.
My sister got Lizzie Mcguire 2 for Christmas or something at some point, i still have it lol terrible game. She also got a Hamtaro game on GBA that was pretty good and Barbie Genie Adventure for Gameboy Color, that one is pretty good too.
You're a girl or a woman in this game series, so most random males who don't even look like criminals sure wouldn't attack you. Why are random male nerds attacking you in this game? most nerds don't attack innocent people, let alone women and girls. This game is just bloody nonsense. You're a woman or a girl in this game series, a pretty one as well, so only the lowest of criminals, untamed wild creatures and other girls/women would ever attack you.
God. That last one is a shitty early 2000s palm pilot fever dream. I gotta say, I'm not nostalgic for pop culture from my high school days at all. Yikes it was bad.
