I am a independent truck and equipment repair shop owner down here in the northwest. I’ve rebuilt several trailers with that same suspension. Those are Hendrickson HT230 low slung suspension. Flat decks use a over slung beam and lowbeds run the underslung beams. The trunions and tool are readily available from Hendrickson. It will have 4707 brake shoes and KIC drum number 60001-018. 46305 seals if you are using the drive in or 46300 if you are using the push in seals. Hopefully you can find a set of S cams that long that have the thin s to run the 4707 shoes on. If not you will need to run 4515 shoes. They looked to be double anchor pin brake spiders on those axles.

I used to rebuild those Henderson axles at a previous job. All you really need that you're not going to find at your local truck and trailer parts house is the bushing and pivot collars. There's a special tool from Henderson to press them out and in. I found it was easier to burn out the old bushing, that tool will never press them out when they're that old and corroded.

Have you considered making a air receiver for the big rattle guns? Get a little tank, hook it to the end of you long airline from the compressor, then add a 3' section of 5/8 or 3/4" air line to the tool. The short, large, line allows the tool to make use of as much air as it can, without the flow restriction of a long air line. Makes it easier to crack those rusted lugs.

You get that trailer all fixed up like new with a new deck, fresh paint and polished wheels and you won’t want to work it. Going forward if you keep your deck oiled up a couple of times a year with some neatsfoot oil (or the oil of your choice) and your deck will last almost forever. By the way don’t let your foot slip off that long handle you were using to break your lug nuts free. You would really be hating life when it springs back and hits you in your nuts. lol 😂
@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch Год назад
Extensions on impact guns reduce A LOT their ability. The more elements ,wiggle and play you have between the nut,socket,extension and square end of the gun,the more energy is dispersed and lost in twisting and impact absorption of steel. The best is the lighter,harder,smaller,tighter socket you can get without extension. Think to a dual mass flywheel,it's the same principle.
@chriswoodward5368

I know it a little late but next time you do this. if you have a way to lift the trailer and 2 guys build a stand to go under the trailer a foot taller than the wood deck. Lift the trailer put the stand between the crossmembers let the trailer down. And repeat. It is amazing how fast you can do this job like this. We would do the left and right side at same time. 2 stands. Watch out for flying would. It’s better to be the guy on the fork lift.

Looks like a Witzco, cheap trailer. The way you straightened out the outside rails, very nice. If the lug nuts are torqued correctly then all you need is a 3/4 inch Milwaukee. “If” is the keyword of course. To many tire jockeys out there who don’t “need “ a torque wrench. “ Been doing it that way for 20 years. Don’t oil your lug nuts, you don’t want the nuts to come off do you?” The only way to torque correctly is when lug nuts are able to turn freely, so yes I do oil them.

Something I've noticed about those Milwaukee electric inch impacts is, if there's even slightly too much play in the setup -- whether a worn out socket, or you have an adapter in like you did to start with -- they **really** struggle. I think they're not hitting *as* hard per blow but they're hitting faster, whereas the old (clapped out 😄) air-gun is hitting slower but harder each time; so the air-gun can power through that loss with a loose-fitting socket, but the electric gun is losing relatively more of its hit-force. One thing's for sure about both options: Damn they're heavy when you're swinging 'em around all day.

I am very surprised that forkhoist didn't fire even with the battery that low, those Toyota 5L engines normally have a 10 second glow timer on them and something like 20:1 compression, so they generally fire pretty good, mine's been that low and still fired right up after a glow. Also they don't break. As long as it has oil in it, it'll run. They just don't get you anywhere in a hurry. Even the 2L-TE 2.4 litre engines are still slower than walking pace. My van with a 5L-E only has a couple hundred thousand miles on it but it'll do another couple hundred thousand before I even really have to start thinking about doing anything major to it like looking at the bearings. But the body will rot into oblivion before that happens.

What battery size? I know the 1" D-handle works tons bettrr with a 12ah battery. The 8ah feels like almost half the thump. The 12ah isn't cheap (just under $400 tax in), but definitely worth it for that impact.

25:04 Is that a Nissan Leaf in the back ground? What is the story behind that, I wonder. We almost bought one, used, a nice US car, but the 11 k replacement battery cost had me thinking twice. 😊

You need a big ass twin screw air compressor with a Ingersoll Rand 2955 Impact wrench 1.5” drive 4.5K ft-lbs of reverse torque!

Scott from 'Bus grease monkey' uses a torque multiplier tool to get stuck/rusted/ way overtorqued wheel nuts lose. It has gears in it. It works slow but with incredibly high torque. The nuts/studs/bolts either come lose or they snap off. No inbetween.

Those impact guns can be made useless with the wrong socket setup... Ideal world is a not deep impact socket with the matching drive " to the gun. And if the socket fits tightly on the gun, even better. No room for flex, i guess. Which would explain why the 3/4 gun did better because theres no extension and its a short socket

Huge respect for the work you do for a good paint job.

A good paint job is an absolute requirement for a lowboy. Particularly underneath where you can’t see. This one has just been caught in time. Most factory paint on lowboys is poor quality, and underneath will have disappeared in several years. This includes a number of companies that have high opinions of themselves. Some kind of protective finish on the underside of floor boards will also prolong trailer life. Take care.

That is a horrible job from the sandblasting. They should have used the black oxide stuff. It gets a lot more of that rusty crap off and gives an excellent surface for ultimate primer and paint adhesion.

The extension on the one inch is what's killing the torque. I've seen it a bunch of times myself. Won't fit without an extension, grab the first one at hand and it won't budge, find a shorter one and it zips off in seconds. I dare you to grab the extension the next time. It'll be roasting hot, because all the power from the impact is going into twisting that extension back and forth.
