I forget the video but welding tips and tricks has a video where he talks about a shop that burnt like 7014 or some odd rod up and down their trailer beams during manufacture to arch them.

I work in the suspension department of a tank trailer manufacturer. We also build brand new suspension systems upside down, then flip them over with an overhead hoist before adding air lines. After that the whole suspension package is welded to the trailer frame. As far as special tools go, there aren't any. Sae wrenches and impact guns do most of the work. Only thing we use that isn't at a local hardware store would be the Huck fasteners, which are standard for semi manufacturing. Great job.

For an extra $50 in valves you can put a shut off valve at each air bag to isolate it off it blows. Then if you get a flat air bag is a simple as closing a valve.

Looking good Rich, Take the exhaust line from the dump valve and make it exhaust horizontally, It stops having to stand in a dust cloud when you drop it . Gord.

Tip on your ziptie memory system. Try using little bits of telephone or ethernet wires. They have lots of different colors inside one bit of ethernet cable to designate many different connections, and you just cut a couple inch length of the wire and twist it around the component like a twist tie. Then you are matching colors of wire instead of zip tie lengths.

Personal preference, colored zip ties. Buy them in a tube. No stripping CAT 6 outer jacket and inner sheath, no cutting wires, just grab two zip ties of one color, put them on with one hand. Run out of colors? Double up. I've run miles of CAT cabling and run a truck maintenance facility and a farm. Zip ties for me, just my personal preference.

I have a 98 Fruehauf pneumatic trailer with brakes and S cams that are similar and they can be a real BEAR to get brake parts for. I finally found some NOS parts on eBay a couple years ago and bought all of them to keep in stock.

I've always been curious about how lowboy trailers worked and what made them tick but never really had the opportunity to be around them very often. They're basically just a truck without the engine. I'll never complain about chasing issues on small trailers after seeing the complexity of something in this class of trailer. Cheers.

Ive never worked on any heavy equipment or heavy trailers with air systems but you make it seem so easy... then you talk about the price and I suddenly don't wanna do it anymore 😂

Little tip for those anchor pins, ball joint presses work very well, but when you have a stuck or siezed anchor pin (normally there’s stuck, not very often will they just fall out) put the ball joint press on them as you did in the video, and give the spider (where the anchor pin sits) a smack and it’ll usually break free, works everytime. The way you did it works aswell but heat can sometimes change the strength of the metal “in theory” otherwise excellent job!

I've heard of guys padding welds on the bottom of lowboys with 7024 jetrod to put the bend in them and give it a sacrificial sureface to scrape on.

A new one is about $120 000. We will have about $25 000 into it. Since making videos is how I get paid, my time is paid for. Can't make 6 videos or have the same pride with just buying a new one, which is why I build all my own stuff, and never buy anything new

Go ahead a buy one more air bag, taoe it with you so you can let the trailer decide which one gets replaced next but at least you have it with you when you need it

Man would love to see a cost break down on this. You are really going all out. Everything all new but it will last a super long time with all new everything for the brakes.

Glad you changed those pins on the spyder. Some would skip that important part. Some chains for stoppers to your frame and axles so your airbags and shocks do not overextend are a very good idea.Sometimes you can’t always dump the air when unloading, due to freezing and corrosion, ect. Edit: I actually do not dump the air on my floats because they have 4 chains per axle lol .

Did they remove the pressure protection valves for the air bag system . If they did you may want to put them on just incase you blow a bag you won't fully lose all your air.

You're gonna want to move your spring brake chambers from the front axle to the middle. When ever you detach you park the trailer and leave the brakes on the truck released (red valve on dash out, and yellow valve in). This allows the truck to move while you're using the hydraulics to raise the trailer in the air to unblock the neck. When you raise the trailer up, the truck will move backwards a little, but after you unblock the neck and start setting the deck onto the ground, the truck will move alot. Which is why you can't park the truck, something is gonna move (truck or trailer) and most usually prefer it be the truck. But back to the spring brake chamber. When you're raising the deck of the trailer to unblock the neck I preparation to detach, your front axle is going to come up. It won't come up alot but it will loose a large amount of ground pressure. Depending on the type of surface you're on and it's angle, you might find yourself in a "no brake" situation.

Instead of using the ball joint press for removing the pin bushing use a sheet metal cutting bit for an air hammer, you can catch the edge and cut/push them right out in 2 seconds without heat. to install new ones use an old pin and place a 7/8 washer over the nub and weld it on, perfect bushing driver

I would consider folding the ears over on the s-cam washer between the S-cam and the spider. Hendrickson sells one that’s already folded over. Since you already installed the hubs it’s not worth replacing now fold the ears over with a hammer and it does the same thing. The shoes can bounce on the washers and cause a lock up especially once parts start to wear.

Keep huck rivets in the truck they are perfect size for air bag lines incase one goes you block the line off to get it off the road or home.

Wrong parts ?we have same problem in the US . Old mechanics used to be work parts counter . Now it’s a computer program ,run by someone without any experience, or knowledge. This is insane!

Looks great! I have a WITZCO trailer as well. They aren’t super fancy but they work! And last! Not sure how far along you are on the gooseneck but I designed a really efficient air bag set up to eliminate having to lift the neck with the hydraulic cylinder and put the timber between it and the frame. I also made some ramps that fold back over the front so you don’t have that big jump to get on the trailer. I’d love to share these (if I send you pictures I’m sure you can figure them out as handy as you are) with you but not sure how to contact you. Let me know.

For your anchor pin removal and installation they do sell a tool for that for a air hammer/zip gun that works great! I use one when I’m doing those and they do the pin and bushing for those

With the air bags I’d just be make sure you have an extra or two in stock. Every time I’ve had one blow spent more time waiting to get it then it took to change it.

Looking good! Curious about how you safety vehicles in Canada, here in Sweden (and most of Europe) it's a third party company authorized by the government that do the testing here. They pretty much all have a pit where you drive your truck into where they have brake rollers, plates for putting torque on wheels to find any play and so on, I found it real odd that you need to physically remove the drums to safety the brakes.

Putting a roof between two sea containers and parking them under there. As soon as the trailer is done, I will start the process. Finished projects can go into the containers, and the boat and Kenworth can go under the cover.
