When I was young, I heard the phrase "you are so cute. If you were fairer you would have been perfect.". Whether it be complete strangers or relatives. I heard it frequently. But as I grew older and actually took care of my skin ( sunscreen was the biggest change as well as less direct exposure to the sun), my skintone got a little lighter (never bleached) and everyone complemented me and asked me if I bleached my skin. And then they focused on my weight because they couldn't critisize my skin any longer. Moral- People are going to find any reason to dish out back handed compliments and critisize you. Jealous people will always focus on making you feel negative.

As an Irish person (who are notorious for being extremely pale) it's interesting to me that for us, we are always pressured to tan to have a deeper skin tone, and Indian people often want paler skin and sometimes bleach their skin.. i think people just often want what they don't have and maybe just embracing yourself is the better option:( and tbh coming from experience having pale skin really isn't all its made out to be. in reality we usually burn VERY easily in the sun and walk around looking like a tomato after even 30 minutes outside lol

In asian culture, in general, being tan means the person works under the sun or is a physical laborer or belongs to a lineage of physical laborer. Which is seen as inferior to someone who doesn't do such things like royalties in the past. I don't understand, what is wrong in doing any type of job if you are doing it with dignity. Be it under the sun or roof. Sad thing is such mindset still exist today. Parents are inculcating the wrong moral values into the children, and I won't even talk about the entertainment industry.

This is sad to watch, but it's true. As a Korean when I was little, I witnessed that my sister was treated better to my father since she had lighter skin, which considered prettier. It broke my heart that I was not loved by my skin tone even though mine wasn't considered dark among Korean girls back then. So I guess that my dad had sort of racism. 😢

Happened to me as well with my Granma. Even if she's Mexican she has light skin as well as my mom. But my dad has a darker skin color. Among my cousins I have the darkest skin color so she would do remarks about my skin color. She told me to cover up. So I used long sleeved shirts every day, no matter the wether. That was until 6 grade when for the first time I wore a short sleeved shirt and my clase mates were shocked bc they had never seen me without long sleeves. In conclusion you are beautiful just the way you are. ❤

When I was little like 5 year old, I had told my dad that I wanted to be a performer who appears on television. He said, I still remember the words clearly, "One Bipasha Basu is enough. You don't have to become the next dark skinned girl who makes movies. Who will watch your dark skin and body on TV?" My dad has a thing for fair complexion. He always expresses that when I was born, I was fair but with time, I got tan. He also prefers company of fair skinned people. My dad is dark himself. I don't know how he developed this mindset that his own children are not beautiful. When my brother was obese, Dad would never take him anywhere with himself. But today, my brother has become one of the best looking men of my family. Now, Dad wants him to join him for public functions. But my introvert brother just refuses to let go of his self time. Coming back to me, Dad still criticizes my looks. I am 23 and have a baby face. When I had bangs, he said "you look ugly, ugly as a monkey. Never get bangs again." When I had a french bob, he said "you look funny. But ugly." I have lost some weight due to work stress. He always points that out. One time when he tried to call me ugly, I said- " You are right, do you know why am I ugly? Because I have got your face. I am your carbon copy. Had I gotten mum's face, I, too, would have been good looking as my brother." That made him shut up. Love my mum for always calling me her most beautiful girl. She says that I am the prettiest girl she has ever seen. I should not be ashamed or unconfident. I have also given up on fair skin. I know nothing is gonna change my complexion and this is the color I would take to grave. So why not love it. Let me tell you, good skincare would make your dusky skin glow. My mum says when dusky skin glows it looks like gold.

It's not as easy as you see it, dark skinned people are always from poor class/lower caste in countries with both fair and dark skin tones specially in South Asia as people with low caste/class did more hardwork and farming than upper class who was rich, didn't do hardwork, got education and lived peacefully, that's why most dark skinned people tend to be poor, prone to br criminals, uneducated, belong to poor family and be shorter, uglier because their poor ancestors were more prone to famines thus giving them bad genes. And those rare fair skinned people born in poor families tend to marry a rich partner because they have their beauty to offer to the rich unlike their dark skinned countrrparys, taking away entirely the fair genes from lower classes. Also on the matter of looks dark skin is more oily, tend to have more hyperpigmentation and looks dirtier because you get darker if you don't bath or be more exposed to dirt and dust not fairer. Also dark skin looks boring with black hairs and eyes unlike whiteskin. Most Indians also tend to have a dull brown skin which looks ugly unlike europeans or fair people who got tanned who have golden.

I also faced this when i was a kid. I still face it. Just because i have a dark skin tone, people don't leave a chance to point it out. I am very successful in my professional career, but this desire of a fairer skin remains : not because of me, but because of the society, because of how the society has treated me since I was born. My friends themselves have actually called me 'badsurat' when we were in school. That time I didn't know about standing up for myself and all. Still today this continues. One aunty told me "who will marry you? You are so dark?!" I didn't say anything to her. Because whatever i say she can never get out of that ugly mindset she carries. I didn't select this skin colour for myself. I was born like this. Whatever was in my hand to change, i did. I have topped exams, studied in high ranking colleges, am working with a high salary, even preparing for competitive exams which I will crack soon. I go to the gym daily, and have a great toned body. So I'm doing what i can change to build myself. But i can't peel off my skin because it's dark. Society should understand that it's not the container which matters, it's the content. Because when you have been bullied since you were a child for your skin colour, you really feel low.

I'm a moderately tan Indian, and I go for walks in the sun a lot, which makes me darker. I've had to hear from my parents and grandmother that I bad when I get tanned. But I ignore them because their upbringing prompts them to say such things. I have no insecurity about my skin when I'm tanned because I believe all skin colours are beautiful to look at, and that the content of ones character dictates real beauty.
@purvii2371
@purvii2371 Год назад
I think most of the Indians are tanned and not "dark" so if they apply sunscreen or remove their tanning then they'll easily get their original skin tone and I think there's nothing wrong to bring the original skin tone...I'm fair but my hands are darker then my face and legs and I really don't want this uneven creepy look, tanning is not bad but also we should know about our original skin tone by removing the uneven tone/tanning...anyways it's upto people's choice at the end !!
@electronnuclear

@@purvii2371 what? sunscreen doesn't remove the tan, as the name suggests, it acts as a protection from the uv rays. With sunscreen on,you'll def get tanned, however the process will be slow. A fair skinned person who lives in a sunny environment will def have his/her skin turn dark bcz it's basically a defence mechanism of our body to protect our skin from the uv rays.
@purvii2371
@purvii2371 Год назад
@@electronnuclear Yupp I agree, but sunscreen also do work as compared to the bare skin and if someone (any skin toned person) can include some kind of skin care in their routine then their skin will not become dull as usually it gets and exfoliation twice a week also remove tanning and if someone live in sunny environment then one can also avoid sun exposure as much as possible so I just stated what I do or believe in !!

@electronnuclear
@electronnuclear Год назад
@@Sassy004 it is true, you're definitely getting tanned, it's just that you don't notice it bcz you're getting used to that colour for years. And it's not about just living in a sunny environment, it's about how much uv rays your skin absorbs and for how much time you're exposed to it which changes the colour. The sunscreen just protects you from the uv rays although not 100%. You did mention you're taking extra skin care, which can slow the process more.

Sorry but being beautiful matters, just as much as being smart, academically brilliant, physically strong, socially adept. All these things matter and its wrong to ignore one of them even if it makes u feel insecure. Your sister needs to either learn colouring doesn’t matter much. There’s plenty of beautiful dark skinned women, and this is not a cope. Colouring doesn’t really matter that much and is completely subjective to different cultures and people. What really defines beauty if your structure. Your height, frame shape, your jaw shape, size, your nose shape and size, evenness of your eye area’s skin tone, your brow ridge size, your temple size, your cranium shape etc. Thats what really determines beauty, colouring not so much. Literally just google “hot dark girls” and you cant tell me the girls that appear are ugly. Colouring appeal depends on what is common. If you are a brown eyed girl in a whole country full of blue eyed girls, *you* will be the exotic one. Not them. But if she thinks she would look better with slightly lighter skin, skin whitening is not impossible. Just dont bleach ffs.
