I think the view from half way down could have ended the series with BoJack actually dying at the end with no one to save him.
@wigger2499
@wigger2499 3 года назад
that would have been the most realistic ending
@therobotfrom2003

@@wigger2499 I disagree, I think the realism lies in the fact that he didn’t die, and like Diane says “sometimes life’s a bitch and then you keep living”. The entire last episode talks about what should of or could have happened to make it a good final episode with bojack talking to princess Carolyn about hoping there’s be this drama that only bojack could solve and it would show that he’s grown. But that’s not real, sometimes people don’t just die.

I love the theme that you can have the best or worst day ever and that can feel like the world to you. Until the next morning.

The face of depression: best ending The view from halfway down: worst ending Good while it lasted: good ending

I disagree, I think the ending, the very last episode in particular, was the one that was the most blatant with Waxberg's Message. Bojack goes to prison = You must face the consequences of your own actions. Not just die, thats the easy way out, but LIVE on. Todd Scene = Simplistic, just like him. Giving a PROFOUND as FUCK message about the meaning of art. (Or more accurately, the "death of the author" theory.) Mr. PB Scene = Comedic, which is literally PB for 99.9% of the show. Nailing in the message "PB never listens". PC Scene = The fact that PC will never have as intimate a relationship with Bojack as before, but more of at an arms-length friendship Diane Scene = And finally, the whole point of the show. "Sometimes...life's a bitch, then you keep living." Life was the biggest bitch its ever been to Bojack in the view from halfway down, but he kept living. I think what the show was trying to say was perfectly conveyed in that final episode. However, I do agree that some characters futures couldve been alluded to much better, such as PB and Bojack himself.

Thing is I dont think there is just one message in this show, and with some nitpicking I can argue for quite a few messages that were conveyed throughout various moments of the show. I personally see that bojacks biggest message (again personally due to personal experience) was that sometimes you are just born broken, or you are very hard to fix.He is struggling to live like a normal adult and can barely find any satisfaction in real life and all his tries to fix himself were falling. Along with all his small bursts of motivation. I don't know what the writer has said in interviews and I dont think that your opinion is wrong. I just believe that the show sends quite a lot of similar yet different messages throughout its duration, where picking one and saying thats the entire point is probably really hard to do when everyone has a different opinion about this issue. I think that's what's great abou the show in the first place. It's well thought out and multi dimensional

I still feel conflicted about the ending of Bojack Horseman. I think that the ending lacks precise satisfaction that most other shows find but, that might be the point that they were trying to come across with. The show ends by implying that it doesn’t really end, that life moves on. At the risk of sounding too high minded and taking a page from jazz “it’s the notes that don’t get played” It follows the kind of general theme the show ran with. As Diane said it at the end, “Life is a bitch but then you keep living.” That being said though, I think we all have our ending that we wished would have brought us the neat wrap up that we wanted. Your choice of ending the series at episode 7 is perfectly valid and I would have actually been delighted to see it end that way. I was always in the they should have let Bojack die in “The view from half way down” and then use the final episode to show each of the characters tie up their ends and show Bojack being forgotten in the short memoried news cycle camp. I think it fits that they chose the path they did just for the sake of the story being told even if it didn’t give us the feel goods or the finality of a wrap up. Either way sorry this turned into a rant. This is a fantastic video.

I agree with you and it would definitely show that even if bojack died noone particularly cared after a while which would still show the same thing as the true ending. I don't like the ending because I feel like every goddamn season was trying to change and yet he failed every single time. Life just catching up to him and him dying is just so dark but it gives this sense of completion. Like yes you keep leaving even if life sucks but for bojack that's been the case since he was a kid. Frankly any ending worked and with just a little bit of tweaking the show could have ended anywhere. Because the truth is, there is not just one true message in this show and depending on your own selective memory you can just argue for the one that suits your idea of the show better.

I think that he should have died in the view from halfway down and the last episode should have been about hollyhock

Just fully rewatched the show for the first time since the final season came out and deliberately stopped on "The Face of Depression". You're absolutely right, it's a great "open" ending (aside from maybe the Peanutbutter/Pickles story - though PB got his closure with the "crossover episode"). I'm wondering if it was intentional by the showrunner to have this episode as an option, and the last two episodes as other options. All it needed was some kind of disclaimer at the end, "If you're content with this ending, please stop watching". Having said that I remember finishing the series years ago and thinking "I wish I'd stopped at View From Halfway Down" and seeing that as my true ending for the show. So maybe it reflects how I've changed in the years.

actually i think it shoulda ended one episode earlier. i always felt throughout the entire show that bojack deserved death as the end to the story. i felt like its what the writers were intending until i finished it and was completely surprised that they didnt. bojack did bad things that he cant be forgiven for and its already too late at that point. he made his choice and he doesnt get to live with it. his life was dark sad tragic and bleak and it shouldve ended that way. there shouldve been no closure for him. maybe the final episode could have been dianes monolauge abt him and showing wha happens to everybody else but he definetely didnt deserve a happy ending. i knew from season 1 that he was an irredeemable character so if they made the choice to redeem him anyway i woulda been thrown off

ace of depression was maybe my favourite episode of the entire run. however, it wouldn't have been an honest ending to the show as it wouldn't have been consistent or true with the established themes/message of the show. i agree that the second half of season 6 is not as great as the first half and we probably spend way too much time with the investigators. i also agree that the 'good while it lasted' is not a perfect ending but i genuinely believe that its pretty close when you consider that the show was supposed to go on longer than 6 seasons and that netflix gave them the death rattle. id have to rewatch it but season 6 maybe could have been trimmed a little but i really don't think that FOD should have been the ending, but i definitely wish that we got something a bit more conclusive than GWIL.

Nah dawg. You’re missing the point. He’s not meant to be a redeemable character. He’s meant to be broken so that we don’t feel warm and fuzzy. We’re meant to look inside ourselves. He is a bad character. A bad person. And they wanted us to feel that. I love the show. Love it. But they didn’t want you to think that he was a hero. You’ve missed the point completely. You can’t be a terrible person and end up with a happy ending.
@domclegg1225

straight facts. bojack can become a better person but at the end of the day he does not deserve redemption. i think they avoided the 'bojack dies' ending because everyone called it, but sometimes the obvious answer is obvious because it's the right one.

Regardless of how it ended, I wish it had been a more positive one. The end of season 2 with the "It gets easier" scene made me think things would eventually go well for the characters but their lives got progressively worse and then the show was over. No closure for anyone, and it felt like they had lost what made the show great. It went from dismal realism to complete nihilism.

As much as this episode is great, if the show ended here we wouldn’t have gotten “the view from halfway down” which is easily my favourite episode. Edit: wrote the comment then saw him mention it in the video.
