Man, there's a lot of Collingwood haters. You haters are so embarrassing. It's like every other team are always professional and classy but never the toothless Pies. Build a real nice solid bridge and get over it suckers. 16 and counting....
This hurts me as a pies fan ! I was 16 and I went to the PF with my Dad and I remember so vividly with about 10 minutes to go my Dad was talking to a cats fan behind us and my dad goes "cats have it" and the cats fan "na pies have us here" I had been to two losing GF in my life and I knew we would beat Port if we could get there but we fell short ! In my opinion that Cats pies Rivalry was the best, 07 Five point Cats Win, 2010 we smashed them in a prelim, 2011 they got their revenge. I went to the 2022 final and my memory of the 07 PF was killing me and it HAPPENED AGAIN. 😅 That cats team 07/09 was probably the best team I watched overall, they were complete pretty much everywhere, Bartel, Corey, Mooney, Ablett JR, Harley, Stevie J, Scarlett and people forget about Chapman he was a genuine star. They were a true team of superstars all over the ground and then you had players like J pod, Ottens, Ling etc who were really really good at playing their role for the team. If you look at 07/09 team I genuinely don't think you can find a player who was below average on that team. Every team usually has one or two who are on the cusp but they honestly didnt. Only reason I didnt include 2011 is because even though they won the GF I think you could argue the Pies had a more complete year and some of their starts were older but in 07/09 they were unstoppable.
As a Port fan its kinda ironic that Ken Hinkley Destroyed Port in the 2007 GF Rubbed salt in the woulds in 2011 by beating them in Gold Coasts First ever win and then Cleaned up the mess in since 2014 by Coaching us and taking us up the ladder. Hopefully he can win a Premiership with us
Not to undersell the video or the cats in 2007 because they’re a nomination for the top 5 ever, but for a single season dominance there’d been nothing like Essendon in 2000. In round 20 I remember Drew Morphett saying it looked like a country league ladder how dominant Essendon were. Still it’s a matter of opinion rather than stats. If Geelong had won in 2008 that season would have statistically been better than Essendon. So surely Geelong were as good as Essendon were in 2000 and overall better because they won multiple premierships? Yep, but for me, for a single season only, Essendon in 2000 is where my moneys at.
Never understood the hype over that Barry mark. They ran out the clock in unsportsmanlike fashion. Was a great game until the anticlimactic ending. Sydney deserved the win though.
@@victorpeirce4753 yes I was there. I was the designated driver and the unsuspecting guy who had an altercation with Ben on this particular night, has had this information freely available on his Facebook for two decades. He is also a well known Perth identity. With due respect, it is you sir, who is talking out of their arse.
i remember watching that late season port loss - you could see the boys did enough to get in front, so know they could beat them, even without their guns, so then almost sit back because nothing else mattered - port's late winner was junk time, the result didn't matter. no cat fan gave a fk at the result. and the rest is history! go cats!!!
As a Port supporter this was hard to watch... Honestly never knew we would be belted by so much. After winning that game at geelong away, I thought there was an oppotunity to win it. Honestly think if we didnt make the gf that year, we wouldnt have gone backwards a year later. Props to Geelong. Best side by a country mile that year
I always thought Paul Chapman was a bit unlucky not to win the Norm Smith medal in 2007. When the game was really on, in the first quarter and a half, he was brilliant.
I would say the Round 6 Sunday Morning article was the kick in the butt that the Cats needed. The Geelong Football Club were always full of talent yet they never really pushed themselves when needed. After the Round 5 2007 weekend, the Cats were at the cross roads and they needed to do something. The article itself was the kick in the butt that the Cats needed to realize they could be better than they had.
such an accurate retelling of teams/eras. I'm a Wolves fan and we had a good team in this period but couldn't even get close to the playoffs because the west was so ridiculous. We had bigs in Love and Pekovic that ate against Blake and DJ but couldnt stop all the shooting from Crawford and Redick, great battles.
great vid man my fav of the 3 was 2011 bomber retired and gary left every one said it was gonna be either the pies or saints Podsiadly did his shoulder early i just thought welp thats game then a young hawkins played out of his skin
I highly suspect this team was using PEDs. The infamous Stephen Dank was working for Geelong at the time. Dank left for the suns, but was quickly moved on due to PED suspicious. He then moved to Essendon with his close companion Mark Thompson, and the rest is history. Dank managed to create a brownlow medalist using PEDs! So I doubt 90kg midfilders and multiple All Australians would be too far of a stretch. When you consider Bomber Thompson has since been convicted for illicit drugs ... it starts to get you thinking. It will likely never be proven, but given all of these coincidences, i'm suprised it hasn't crossed more peoples mind.
disagree with the conclusion , AFL footy is truly dead nowadays but looking back this west coast team was one of the most pure scintillating footy I've ever seen. I find it quite easy to disregard a players personal lives from my opinion that Cousins and Kerr were two of the best midfielders to watch that I can recall. I think Ports breakthrough flag after 3 years of falling short would make a good video
