There is so much desire for barefoot shoes/boots that last more than a season and aren't basically disposable. I think you'll make a big splash in the market.
As someone with really wide feet who's been looking into the barefoot boot/shoes market to fit my feet, I am super excited for the release of the zero drop last. Love the boots you guys pump out and can't wait to buy a pair!
I'm so glad this legendary company is developing a minimalist boot. We're such a niche community and the current minamlist boot offerings... leave a lot to be desired. I'm excited to see what the pros can do!

Jim green ive been nerding out to your boot anatomy videos, ive learned ALOT from watching you to the point im a shoe person thinking about Good year welts , toe caps , lastings , leather quality 😂 Before to me a boot was just a boot, and had no idea what made a good boot. I am excited for the zero drop last!! Zero drop feels great on my low back after an auto accident I had a few years back. I love the African Rangers btw!!
The Town and Country boot is blake stitched?! I always thought it was cemented construction because the website page says it's not resoleable. Now I'm keen to get a pair!
My favorite is the JG last, my Razorbacks and AR8 were a good fit from the beginning, and they are only getting better with wear. Other than my Iron Rangers, I hardly wear other shoes or boots nowadays.
This is just a terrific video for folks to learn one more part of shoe/boot building that will help them decide on which model to choose. If nothing else, it will certainly take one more mystery out of it! I was just recently introduced to JG footware via Weston Kaye (a.k.a. Rose Anvil RU-vid) and went GaGa over the idea of a recraftable heavy duty boot that has plenty of room for toes at a very reasonable price, imported from South Africa. What hooked me was/is the fact that for every 10 pairs sold, a pair is donated to the South African Rangers to help stop poaching. I call that a purchase with a purpose. It is good to know the lasts that fit my feet since the Buffalo African Ranger and the Razorback Tyre are a near custom fit. I will warn people that there is some breaking in of these boots as the leather, although high quality, is bush/desert tough (by design) so plan on a few close-to-home short adventures to help with the break in before longer adventures.

I gravitate to ASH last, but i'm on JG last with a mean machine, but have never felt any uncomfortable pressure on the toe-box. The predator that preys on other boots is non other than Jim Green🐸

Thanks for the info. I put about 5 miles on my African Ranger buffalo boots today and they served me well. I'm looking forward to getting a pair of Baobabs in the near future, but need to save up a little bit.
I'd love to see a video on sizing specifically. As someone with a 4E foot I find buying boots to be difficult even when I can try them on. At times you just can't tell if the boot is stiff and new or if it is going to be tight even after break in. Sometimes a wide boot is massively wide in the heel but only slightly wide at the ball and toe box. More often than not I find that even wide boots are narrow at the arch or just behind the ball of the foot (my problem area). I am between a 9 and 9.5 4E on a Brannock (more like a 9.25) and find myself in a 10 2E in many boots (because a 9.5 4E isn't offered. I'd love to pick up a pair of African Rangers the sizing worries me. I know the site says go true to Brannock but being two widths narrower I'd guess going up half a size might do the trick, but these things are hard to guess at. I know sizing is alluded to but again, I'd love a full-on sizing advice video.
Having both ASHM and JG lasted boots I can just confirm: JG's (steel toed Razorback) will burn and hurt your toes at first, but are spot on once broken in. the ASHM last (with my shoelie) fit from the beginning and made breaking in a breeze.
All in for Jim Green. I bought the ridgeback for work And the African ranger for daily. Both were a little tight so I took the soles out. Now they fit like gloves. Glad to see those barefoot boots. Ultimately that's why I wanted these. I have fat (wide)feet and those rangers were the closest thing I could find to barefoots that looked durable. Bravo to you. I just wish the boots I bought would wear out quick so I could have an excuse to buy others.

Very informative video. Thank you. If I hadn't watched many of your previous videos I would've sent my Razorbacks back because they were so uncomfortable in the beginning. But because of those videos, I had faith they would break in and they did. Now they are extremely comfortable and they fit like a glove. I love my Razorbacks and my African Rangers. I'm curious, how many of each last do you need in your factory? For instance, do you need hundreds of each last, or do you just need a couple of them?

Very informative! I hadn't seen the T&C before, which lead me to your South Africa page. There's a couple of really interesting models there that I hadn't seen before! Would be cool to hear more about some of those that aren't available in the States. The Bantam in particular looks wild

It's so helpful having these overviews about the the guts of the boots and what your options are as a consumer, for custom boots. Lets us make the most well-informed decision we can. And I'm so looking forward to your barefoot boots. I've held off on barefoot until now because from what I've found they all lack someone on the quality/aesthetics/durability front, often trading natural materials for synthetics. But heritage and handmade boots always seemed to have much more traditional, un-anatomical shapes/lasts, way too narrow for my duck feet. Those two circles of the venn diagram never seemed to meet. Then I came across JG and your wider stitchdown boots and I knew there was potential. It's a niche I haven't really seen anyone fill (though I'm happy to learn otherwise) and I think it's gonna be a hit. Fulfilling both roles of ergonomics and more natural foot function, with the style and strength of stitchdown leather construction, they're gonna have little in the way of competition. They're gonna be irresistible to so many, myself included. And now that you're pursuing heritage leathers in the style of Horween... you're really forging ahead. I think people are gonna come flocking, and I'm so excited to see what's coming down the pipeline.

Will there be a zero drop Razorback? Even better will the last be offered for most boots? If this would be the case. JG can be a leader in a growing market. JG will be my go to boot.
For the time being we have developed the African Ranger exclusively on the Zero Drop last, with time we shall look at adding additional styles to our Zero Drop range 💪💪

I have a wide foot and my Boababs are wearing in quite nicely! That zero drop shoe almost looks like the same shape as old school Converse boots. Those wore amazingly and I think these will too!

Purchased the zero drop African rangers, but they were way too wide for my feet even though I'm accustomed to other zero drop boots and shoes. Will you ever offer the zero drops in narrower pictures?
Dang man, my extremely hard to fit size is still available in the buffalo ranger, but now i need to wait for that zero drop. Why are decisions SO HARD?!

Yeah! Zero drop options! Great. But please don't make it ugly and super expensive, as many barefoot shoes companies do. I would totally buy pairs of African Rangers, Shoellies and Chukkas with zero drop. Even considering that I have to ship them to Brazil, where I am right now.

All Jim Green boots are a standard wide fit. We offer a few lasts in our range - below is information with styles associated: JG last - This is a wide fit and offers a snugger feel all around. This last, we use on our Razorback, Stockman slip on, 4x4, Bushcat and AR8 Boot. STC last - This is a wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box (more room above the toes). This last, we use on our African Ranger, Vellie, and Outback Slip On. MO last - This is a standard width with a roomy and rounded toe box. This last, we use on our Monster Range. ASH last - This is a deceivingly narrow in look last but still offers the traditional wide fit of Jim Green boots with a snug toe box, For this last if you are 2E Width and above we recommend half a size up. This last is used on our Baobab Boot, Shellie & Numzaan.
