After a rough 2-4 start, the Vikings chose to bench Randall Cunningham and call up veteran Jeff George to spark the offense. They've won two in a row, but here come Aikman, Emmitt, and the 'Boys are in town for Monday night.

This is the game where Carter and Deion really went at it. Oh and btw if anyone doesn't know.... Randy is the GOAT. Unstoppable.

I went to school with a Cowboys fan and the next morning he started rubbing it in my face how the Emmitt Smith torched the Vikings. I asked if he watched the whole game and he looked like a dear in headlights. He he said he went to bed after it was 17-0 and I told him Minnesota scored 27 straight points and won. He walked away and was so pissed. The boy totally played himself.

this 1999 Vikings team was just as good as the 98 squad they could of gone all the way if they didn't struggle so early in the season
@andyfiscus7487

If they started George at the beginning of the season they wouldn't have struggled as bad as they did when Cunningham was in. The moment they pulled Cunningham and put in George, they were on fire.

Maybe if they had a defense that could stop the rams...
@yunush
@yunush Год назад
The defense was much worse in 99. They were 30th in pass defense and 27th overall; 1998 team was 19th and 13th overall. This is why they lost to Rams.

I still think the Vikings should have kept Jeff George. Their offense was good in 2000, but really inconsistent at the end of the season and I think George would have helped that.
@isakdinesen11111
@isakdinesen11111 3 года назад
Probably, but you drafted Daunte Culpepper in the first round to play him. Giving him two years to sit with a lot of talent either aging or leaving after 2000 probably isn’t smart.
@Skazellino
@Skazellino 3 года назад
@@isakdinesen11111 They wanted to keep him but he wanted more money than they were willing to give him. Dennis Green was also flirting with Dan Marino during that offseason too.
@isakdinesen11111
@isakdinesen11111 3 года назад
@@Skazellino I wasn’t following the team back then, but I think the most important words there are “than they were willing to give him.” I can only assume they really wanted George or Marino to be backups/mentors to Daunte, but both probably (reasonably) wanted to start.
@Skazellino
@Skazellino 3 года назад
@@isakdinesen11111 They did not want them for backup purposes. Denny really wanted Marino to try for one last shot at glory with Moss and Carter but after serious consideration Marino said he didn't think his knees could hold up. George was offered a fair contract to be the starter but he wanted more and Washington gave him a huge deal. Enter Daunte Culpepper.

What would've the '98 Vikes looked like with Jeff George as the QB?
@deanladue3151
@deanladue3151 2 года назад
Even though the Vikings won the game, it was obvious that the historical record setting offense from '98 was missing the chemistry and total explosiveness that made it so feared. George was a capable QB with a rocket launcher for an arm, but lacked mobility and never looked for his secondary targets downfield the way Cunningham did the season before.
