In the grand scheme of things a CAC of 10 is nothing, but I understand that finding a positive score in your 30s would be concerning. I'm in my 50s and my CAC score of just under 150 has been stable for 2 years. Neither my cardiologist nor my PCP were concerned and my PCP was actually impressed that in 2 years it had actuality gone down by .2. The clinic where had the CAC performed has seen scores above 1000 with no coronary events. That doesn't mean we should relax. It means we should count our blessings and take our health seriously. And before anyone says it, yes I know CAC is an indication of past damage. However, if the score is stable or decreasing it means you have stopped doing new damage

@@dkcN0va2109 I was gong to be happy if it was under 300. Imagine my relief. "Normal" progression is +20% per year, so if you stay stable or reverse it (Yes it's possible, no matter what you've heard.) then you are ahead of the curve.

My doctor freaked out about high LDL cholesterol after 1 year on a keto/carnivore diet. Despite everything else being perfect in my bloodwork, I got the standard advice of either changing diet or starting on a statin. I ended up getting a referral to a cardiologist who wasn't that concerned about my high LDL since I don't have any other major risk factors for heart disease. He was comfortable if I kept going with the diet but did recommend a CAC scan. Thankfully it came back as 0, but even if it was >0 I wouldn't change back to a carbohydrate based diet. I feel much better on a carnivore diet and resolved an number of health issues since I started.

Thanks, Dave and Bradley, for a beautifully paced and calmly presented history and reasoning. "Don't make perfection the enemy of the good" is a perfect way to frame it: carnivore eating does not need to be expensive. If anything, my shopping bill has come down significantly since making the change. Yes, I buy grass-fed, local organic beef, directly from the farm, but I also buy some of the cheapest cuts: brisket, stewing steak, braising steak, mince (ground beef), liver, kidneys, heart, tongue and tripe. Last week I asked for beef fat, to render down for tallow, and they gave me several pounds of it for free. I also ask for a bag of bones, to make broth, which again costs almost nothing. The savings on my shopping come from not buying any ultraprocessed products, seed oils, vegetables and fruit. And certainly no "keto" products, which are invariably full of junk. Another reason the shopping bill goes down is that I don't eat as much: usually one meal a day, sometimes two. Some meat or offal, or fish, and eggs, usually cooked in tallow or slow-cooked overnight, seasoned with salt, and maybe some cheese and a shot of home-made kefir, and I'm done. No need for dessert, or snacks between meals: I don't feel stuffed and I don't feel deprived, just comfortably nourished and ready to go for another 23 hours.

My pre-keto total cholesterol was around 120, with LDL accounting for about 70mg/dl. After eight years eating keto, then 90%+ carnivore, my LDL is about 330mg/dl. I obsessed about that number for years, reading every article I could find and listening to videos about cholesterol and supposed risk. I no longer think lipoproteins are an element of concern for my health. The fear of LDL was rooted in a bald lie in the 50s and the medical field has never looked back to see it.

I have been ketovore for 11 months. 5 months ago I had a CAC score of 600, and I'm 57 yrs old. Scared the crap outta me. My cardiologist told me to read two books: The China Study and How Not To Die. Both are about the benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet. I read them both. Just had my cardiology follow up appt today. He asked me how I liked the books. I told him they belong on the dung heap of literature. And of course that prompted a long discussion but he understood my position and accepted it (kudos to him). I then recommended two books to him: The Big Fat Surprise and Toxic Superfoods. He said he'd read them and that we could discuss them at my next appt in a few months. Anyway, he wants me to get another CAC score next April. I am currently taking a statin to lower my cholesterol but not for that reason only. I am taking it because some studies have shown that statins help to reduce inflammation as well as stabilize (calcify) soft plaque (the stuff that kills you). This may mean that my CAC score next yr will go up due to more calcified plaque being present on the scan. But I don't really know what it will be. I must say, I'm a tad nervous about it all but I'm staying on the ketovore diet because I'm down 50 lbs and feel amazing. Fingers crossed and praying......

Thank you, Bradley, for sharing your great story! I'm sending this video to my oldest son who was a solider and will relate to your story. I am incredulous about your conversation with the dietician-though I have had the same conversation during consultations with them about 'the plate' several times in my life, it was never effective. The hopelessness of hearing that they do not change-in spite of shocking obesity and illness is mind boggling. It's like that branch of health care are the least capable of allowing any ideas other than their indoctrination to break through.

My view of genetics is that there has been a remarkable amount of genetic research that few if any mainstream doctors are made aware of. I suffered for 23 years with a very common (very common) gene variant which does not process synthetic b vitamins and 3 days after a biochemist naturopathic doctor put me on the superior form of b vitamins, most of these longstanding symptoms went away. But of course big food and big pharma don't want to actually serve humanity, even when their cheap synthetic garbage additives proves harmful, they staunchly dig in and see the humans as the problem rather than the harmful products as the problem. This is what happens when it becomes culturally normalized to love money more than life itself.

A CAC score of 10 is still in the low risk range. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that Bradley's CAC was going down. When hey was in pain and a heavy drinker and smoker, his CAC was probably a bit higher. The real question is how stable his CAC is. I'd suggest getting it rechecked in a couple of years. I ordered mine through MDSave. At a cost of $59. Out of pocket.
