The trouble is that people can be very easily implicated into whatever happens to the person. So the family will gang up on you and blame you for anything that happens to the patient. They'll try to extort tens of thousands in trumped up medical bills and hold you hostage at the local PSB. So people would rather not get involved! I'm not condoning it btw. I think it's plain awful!

Americans, Brits, and Russians belong to cultures that stress the importance of rugged individualism and taking matters into one's own hands. I don't see this in Chinese Culture. Could it be that Chinese people are more dependent on group decision making and less quick to taking action as individuals? In this video, I see concerned people standing about watching someone have a stroke but not really knowing what to do or how to react as if they're in their own world watching someone else on TV. I've see this a lot with Chinese people (I married into a Chinese family at one point in my life). Not sure if it's a lack of caring, though.

Yeah. Life sucks. Ppl are cruel for no reason. But as a whole, the lack of compassion goes against our nature so it's unusual for us to see mass ambivalence to suffering (maybe not, it happens everyday BUT when you're called upon to help, it's like an urge to do something, you have to wonder how badly a society is scarred when you see that instinct being actively repressed). The thing is, I think they're just terrified to make themselves vulnerable by helping the more vulnerable. When you degrade trust in your fellow man on a societal scale then this shit happens.

I don't know where else I could post about this, and it is off-topic, but today while working near the DC area, I was in a 7-11 getting some lunch. An Asian man and what I suppose to be his grandson or maybe nephew, were shopping at the same time I was. The man picked up a donut with his bare hand, but then put it back in the display case, after some dialogue with the young boy (5-7 yrs old). I can only guess that he told the young lad he shouldn't have so much sugar, or didn't deserve a treat, or whatever. Another patron waiting in line, accosted the man; telling him he needed to buy the item after touching it. He picked up one of the wax-paper wrappers provided for the purpose of grabbing items from the display case, only to crumple it and throw it away when he thought nobody was looking. I was silently observing, and wondering what to do. I don't like confrontation, especially when wearing a work uniform shirt that could be identified and cause me trouble later...but I felt he had done wrong, and was conflicted. Call him out yet again, and maybe cause him a big problem in front of the young boy, or just let it go, in which case some unsuspecting customer could end up with a donut previously handled by somebody...with all the political/actual ramifications in this Corona wokedemic... I ended up remaining silent. What would you do?

One of my friends in China has had an awful time with her family trying to literally force her to have a grandchild. She owns and runs seven restaurants and supports her siblings and the entire family. Her siblings are spoiled and lazy. Her father has a mistress and several children outside of the marriage and yet this awful man is able to bully her relentlessly and has really stepped up his efforts lately as she approaches thirty years old. I wish I could do something to get her out of there and help her but, her husband won't agree to move out of China and she often tells me "I have to do what they say." It's SO Infuriating. She's so smart, capable and hard working. She'd do very well here and she does NOT want to have children. I hate to see this happen to someone I care so much about. All the men in that family bully the women and it has to be accepted. Disgusting.

More have heard of various Chinese medicine practises, than have heard of CPR, first aid, or whatever needs to be done with stroke victims. Thanks for speaking out on this issue. Growing up as a little girl in China I have witnessed women grabbed by men screaming and kicking on street while by passers acted as if nothing was happening. Needless to say it left an impression on my mind that when it comes to physical violence, the weak are absolutely helpless. This definitely contributes to the morbid codependency between people and their families in China because you basically have to rely on those who in theory would stand up for you. However, the situation becomes truely destructing to a persons’ mind when the perpetrator is ones’ own family member because the police and the law don’t care about your safety. I grew up feeling like if my father had decided to kill me, no one would’ve done anything about it nor would they care. Unfortunately, this disgusting indifference reaches overseas. A couple years ago I was living in an apartment with more than 70% Chinese student occupants. My ex partner was physically abusive and an incident broke out, I was attacked and my phone was taken away. In a chance of escaping I ran to the hallway waiting for the lift completely frantic. There were a young chinese couple also waiting for the lift, I felt that they were my chance to safety as my ex restrained from attacking me in front of other people. I was crying and asked for help from them to call the police for me and explained that I was abused. They were my age under 23. The reaction I got from these two were that they didn’t believe me, nor did they want to get in trouble calling the police for me. I asked to borrow their phone then, and was refused. I was too afraid to be outraged from the stupidity and got in the lift a couple of minutes later. Luckily I was in Australia when this happened. The building manager was in the lobby and he called the police for me which led to my ex’s 6 months’ prison sentence. In combination to what I saw in my mainlander peers reaction to HK protest in 2019, I’ve come to the realisation that the illusion that China will be liberated and be more humanistic and civilised as younger generations are better educated is a complete dream and a joke.

@@GuacamoleyNacho From my experience, my peers hold the view that they are mostly powerless, and it's best to not get involved in other people's business in order to conserve in their own safety. This is a direct effect from living in a socialist authoritarian society. Mind you in China, individuals aren't important only the whole society is. Subsequently, they don't feel that they are responsible to much if anything that happens around them, and compassion, justice and basic decency comes after personal preservation.

I suspect that personality and mood disorders are also rampant among Chinese women, especially of the older generations, more particularly women who had male siblings. They were generally treated as less important, and I'm sure many were traumatized in some ways during their youth. Chinese women can be quite controlling at times, but I think it's due to growing up in a rather hostile environment and not feeling respected.

Yup, courts even going as far as saying: 'Why would you help anyone unless you're feeling guilty about something?!' This is huge reason why authoritarian societies eventually always will fail. When all you teach your citizens is paranoia and distrust it's no wonder people don't actually care about their fellow man, no matter how "patriotic" they ever claim themselves to be. Cause that's just it, the patriotism only includes things like signage, flags and political parties. It never really expands to the common man. In fact the most patriotic types will probably tell you to shut up and never criticize the country. Meaning if someone is to show a video like this and criticize the behavior in it. Their answer will be to attack the person distributing the video, stating that person is slandering and spreading fake news. Instead of taking care of the real problem which, quite frankly, will only hurt themselves the most in the end.

@justicedemocrat9357

@@foreverpinkf.7603 No one wants to be involved if you call for an ambulance the guy's family can turn around and make you pay for the ambulance bill and stuff like I don't blame the chinese people because taiwanese and ppl from hong kong aren't like this I blame the CCP the justice system in China is completely out of whack. Prozzie, one of Winston's friends in china who also has a youtube channel got conned like this he helped an old woman who slipped and fell in the rain and then she turned around and demanded thousands of RMB from him or she would go to the authorities and tell them that she pushed him or something like that I don't remember the full story. He ended up giving her thousands in 'compensation' or the cops were going to arrest him. If you get involved the authorities can force you to cough up money.

The only reason we have Good Samaritan laws is because of the good Samaritan in the Bible. People used to know the Bible. In a country that bans the Bible, it cannot influence people for good principles and behavior.
