@@marvin4827 exactly. He figured if hes gonna score 0 points. He gonna make sure the top guy on the other team do the same shit. My real question is which Rodman was more deadlier all around. Pistons Rodman or Bulls Rodman?
@@dashboardmoney5743 Yeah like get rebounds, save a ball from goin out of bounce, & defend/piss off the other team anyway possible. That's easier said than done.
I hear a lot about how Dennis was incredibly strong and had tremendous endurance. No one talks much about his trolling ability- he was a smart guy. Picked the roll he was best at and pushed it. Champion
The Bulls don’t pull off the second three-peat without Rodman. He was such a major force in that team and so vital to offense, defense and taking players out of their comfort zones. Rodman was the key to that three-peat.
It was the all around chemistry. Pippen learned a lot from MJ and MJ motivated Rodman. MJ's competitive dedication was so fierce. When the other players see how relentlessly bad you want it, they want it too. Imagining what they would've been like without any of the starting 5 is tough. Toni K was a huge contributor as well
Call me crazy, but if I was building my all-time team it would include Rodman. There have been plenty of great scorers over the years, but he might be the best defender and best rebounder of all time. He always hustles and brings a competitive spirit to the team... that is, if he shows up.
I used to have that debate with a buddy years ago. Rodman or Ben Wallace, and I always went with Wallace because Rodman would bring some drama and Big by contrast was a locker room leader. That said, if you're talking all round game and better athlete, I would go with Dennis. I have to be transparent, Ben Wallace is one of my top five all time favorites so Im biased.
@@fortnitegod6987 that’s not how the Bulls operated Rodman. He was part of a rotation on Shaq. Phil knew Shaq would feast on him so he was only used on Shaq in high energy spurts. Besides the Lakers had about a 15 point lead at one time in the game. What you should ask is why Jordan missed 22 freaking shots that game. Shaq only missed 8. So tell me who shut MJ down? Nick? Eddie?
@@coloneldusty4476 that’s not remotely true 🤣. Phil would allow Shaq to feast early on the game to not allow the rest of his team to get going. Rodman would guard Shaq in the 2nd half to shut him down for the rest of the game. You have no clue what you’re talking about. Rodman shutdown Shaq multiple times so it’s not some “spurt”.
Dennis could actually shoot the ball.. He could fly and dunk the ball, pass, steal, rebound, guard, shoot the 3 pointer and party all night and still have a good game.
I remember watching that game. I was shocked that Dennis was able to hold Shaq the way he did. I’ve seen people/teams slow him down but only Dennis was able to shut him down.
@@oreocremeshake Actually, I don't think Shaq scored any points on Rodman. The 4 points he got in the second half(which took him to 27) were made prior to Phil switching Rodman onto Shaq. Rodman completely shut down Shaq this game and held him to 0 points. What's more incredible is that when you watch the full game, it's Rodman doing it without help 90% of the time. Almost all teams doubled Shaq in the paint. The fact that Rodman was able to shut him down and hold him to 0 points over 3 quarters(including OT), with mostly single coverage, is simply insane. It wasn't the only time Rodman really dominated Shaq with defense, either. Shaq always seemed to struggle with Rodman, and Shaq even talks about it from time to time now on TNT. MJ was also ice cold this game, so I think it's fair to say Rodman won the Bulls this game.
@@lefrenchwithacbg4732 he didn’t guard Centers on his own he held his ground and help came plus I’d like to see him on an island with Kyrie on the perimeter 😂
All the while laughing about it, knowing it's just Rodman getting under the skin of the opponent. I'm 100% convinced MJ and Pippen only held him back to add to the theatrics.
@@Murasakyba probably because they need the guy to keep checking shaq. the lakers should subs 2 best 3 pointers they have. bull overall defense was so bad.no defense what so ever on the outside.
Became my favorite player of all time after that game. My friend was a huge Shaq fan and we both were freaking out over how Rodman played it was awesome
Rodman is the person who only work for winner and Jordan might be encouraged him with the word "I need you to take care the defense and let me handle the offense".
@oldschoolpk did you watch the video? The bulls tried like every player they could until the start of the 2nd half when Rodman was put on Shaq and held him off.
@@Mikael-jt1hk i don't think you understand what IQ means, specifically 'game' IQ lmao the fact you haven't heard this common term shows you don't play or watch any sports lmao
@@ngatiwarrior6975 IQ is a specific measurement of human intelligence. Dont try to change the meaning because you're clearly the ''well below 100 demographic'
I don't even watch NBA games anymore...haven't really played since high school....stumbled across this channel and I watch every single video. Keep up the good work BTM!
Whats great about Rodman is that he can actually play any position. He can shoot, fly, dunk but he has a laser focus on the task that is given to him. He doesnt care about how many points he gets when hes already sorounded by point getters. He cares about what role he has to take on to contribute for the win. Temper aside, he's the guy you want to fill in the last slot on your team.
To be fair, Shaq himself has stated that WILT was the most dominant player ever (on TNT as an analyst) - but Bill Russell the greatest (at Shaq's HOF speach).
@@Kunfucious577 A lot of the greatest rebounders did that. IF you can use the tip of your fingers to direct it then you can effectively beat taller players for the rebound. Hakeem used to do it too. Rodman was the greatest rebounder of all time. The early guys don't count to me cause they played such a different game.
This is why players from todays era wouldnt make it back in the 80s and 90s. They were allowed to play defense, now if you look at a guy wrong they blow the whistle.
That explains why the post game is just owning the league today.. its just way to easy to score down there because they cannot defend in the post.... Oh... wait.. the post game is not owning league today. You have zero clue what you are talking about.
He was a winner before he became the worm when dumars says he would run a. Hour on the stair master after the game...just shows determination...I would watch nba just watch this guy rebound his positioning for his size was a thing of beauty and the fact he didn’t have to score to impact the game like he did was just remarkable no man ever will ever mimic his skill sets my favourite player of all time
I wouldn't say the best defender but definitely the best rebounder and easily the most annoying defender ever, he was great then because there weren't as many fouls called as there is know a days. The best defender hands down has to be bill Russel
Dennis was a genius on the basketball court. He was also clutch. That Game 6 vs the Sonics back in Chicago things were starting to slip in the 3rd quarter. Rodman made three crucial baskets IN A ROW. Yes Dennis Rodman a non scorer who did everything else to perfection. When that happened it sent the message like, ah, there’s no way you’re winning this Seattle. Forget about it. Classic Dennis. Not just a HOFer, but one of THEE best ever. And yet he gives a Michael and Scottie all the praise as the ultimate team player would.
I loved watching Rodman play as much as I did Jordan. Michael made you appreciate his dominance while Dennis made you appreciate his work. I learned so much about the game from those 2.
This is Shaq being coached by Del Harris. When Phil came to town, he knew Shaq was missing opportunities by not reposting and getting the ball deeper. Got MVP right away.
@@Edd1e8 And Rodman doesn't need to depend Shaq. Because when Phil coached Shaq. Rodman played together with Shaq for the Lakers and Phil after the 98 season.
Favorite Worm story. Thomas recalled in a game during Rodmans rookie year he grabbed a rebound. Had the open dunk. But was just so happy to have the ball he dribbled back out and passed the ball back to Thomas and reset the offense
I literally get chills every time I see those early/mid 90’s east all star teams jus imagining the thought of Shaq and Jordan on the same team is terrifying
Dennis Rodman was probably the most talented defensive player ever in my opinion. His crazy antics often over shadowed his talent but he got the job done like a pro..
Rodman was crazy but also kept it simple when it came to basketball he started guarding Shaq as far from the basket as he could forcing him to pass or try to shoot an awkward shot and boxed out at all times and forgot about helping anyone else. Other players would try to double team the slashing guard with the ball and leave Shaq for an easy alley oop but Rodman stayed in his man no matter what so it's hard for Shaq to score when he doesn't get the ball very smart
Prime Rodman was not to be messed with, he'd get you 10 points, 15 rebounds, and a couple assists and the guy he was guarding was in for a rough night. I was a big fan of Rodman since the Bad Boy days
My question is which Dennis was more deadlier? Detroit Dennis w/o the tattoos & crazy hair. Or Bulls Dennis with all of them & still being all team defence??
MJ, Scottie and Phil Jackson openly said that Dennis Basketball IQ is off the chart. When he joined the bulls was very easy for him to understand the triangle offense
@@rezyfx Easier said than done bro, if you said is true, why only the bulls and Phil Jackson, Tex Winter applied it? Why none of the other teams applied it too?
@@andersonking609 because they have other plays, you know teams know other teams plays right, if a play is so good, knowing it won’t do anything, the triangle offence is a simple play but very effective.
I watched dennis in the 90's with the Bulls ; he is hardworker and anyone knows basketball knows that running up & down the court is not easy , and needs top shape athlete !
@@sarahhape8077 it may be easy running back and forth. Try running back and forth while dribbling. Constantly changing directions, stopping, turning and attacking. Not in the same sequence everytime. It becomes exhausting, the constant change of direction that rugby doesn't have.
Basketball is nearly as physically demanding as rugby. Basketball players play almost half as less in a sport where your barely aloud to touch eachother. Now try running up and down a 150-200 feet pitch while being tackled by 250 pound men running at top speed. I know which one id rather do.
Dennis Rodman was a classic player who you used to hate when he played against your team but when he joined your team, you loved him so don't be too quick to judge you might end up loving that person,oh and by the way I was at this game!!!
As a Bulls fan, this happened to me as soon as the Bulls got Rodman, who previously played for the hated "Bad Boys" Pistons. As soon as I heard Rodman was coming to Chicago, I was like "We're going to win the Championship!" And then we did win it, and then again, and then again. Now Rodman is probably my favorite player of all time, even moreso than Jordan.
Thank you for your videos. One of my favorite channels. Dennis Rodman was a variable in championship teams that made that team a champion. He went on the court and did things no one else wanted to do, but needed to be done...
As a huge Bulls fan in the eighties and nineties, I find this statement incredibly optimistic. I never watched a game that came down to the wire and thought, "I hope Rodman shoots now," except for when Rodman was playing for the Pistons. But Rodman might still have been the best all-around player on the team, or at least second-best.
@@RafaelGarcia-ju1tc cause they lost like 3 role players and penny missed 2 games... its not all about mj being better than in 95, magic was worse in 96
The NBA is not what it used to be it changed a whole lot back then got to play hard to win today's NBA is not fun to watch in all honesty I don't see Hall of Famers in today's NBA back then in the NBA each team had an All-Star player some teams even had two or three All-Star players in the old NBA LeBron James couldn't play back then the way the game was played America,THANK'S COMMENT FROM CHICAGO.
Dennis Rodman has never ever bin a player that worries about scoring points he's always about defending that's why he's one of the greatest defenders of all time my next favorite is Uncle Ben Wallace these guy's are tuff like concrete
There's a reason Jordan and Pippen were happy to put up with all his shit. The man was an incredible asset on the floor and did all the hard/dirty work others couldn't or didn't want to do.
Rodman must have been extremely strong or he knew a lot about physics. My guess is both. Especially knowing how he used to study rebounds and how much energy he had.
dude was a legit genius. He always seemed to know where the ball would fall even before it hit the rim. If you watch some of his highlights, he barely moves on some rebounds because of great positioning
Dude like, he can literally read aerial ball trajectories and determine where it's gonna likely miss and prep himself for the rebound before the ball even hits the rim
Shaq made a lot of top tier guys who could’ve played center, become hall of fame power forwards(COUGH, Tim Duncan, Dirk, R. Wallace, KG, etc...). Hmm, it took an undersized ex-janitor with asthma to shut him down whenever he wanted.
What we see here is impeccable foot work with Rodman. Just to name a few recent great both offensive and defensive players who had impeccable foot work, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryan, Hakeem Olajuwon,, Steve Nash, Carmelo Anthony (in descending talent order). Basketball is played as much or more with your legs then your arms. Shaq is a legend with below average footwork and he is still an all time great. Respect.
@@trollpuppetmaster6878 I recommend that you read the comments you're commenting on. I never insinuated that Carmelo or Nash where great defensive players. Be polite and lay of the booze before commenting with your stupidity on youtube. Have a nice day Sir.
This video would be my "Exhibit A" in several cases I could make for/against certain NBA tropes. One case is the uniqueness of Rodman's career from his early Detroit slashing/finishing perimeter defender to his manic rebounding interior force late career with the Bulls. At different points of his career he was one of the rangey-est , quickest perimeter defenders , on par with guys like DJ and Coop, in terms of foot speed, length and quickness to one of the most physical, tenacious fundamentally sound interior defenders. If you were to divorce said aspects of his one career and extrapolate them into two separate careers, the one being the perimeter defender and the other being the 'banger, both "players" would be HOF'ers. Another case I would use this for is the ability of Phil Jackson's coaching staff to improve the fundamentals of their players , namely Shaq's atrocious footwork and positioning, as the Jackson era Shaq's footwork was much more fluid and less choppy and his positioning far more effective. The Shaq of Orlando and early LA had terrible habits and would merely try to overpower someone when his first or second moves were countered, later career Shaq had criminally underrated fundamentals. The last case I would use this video in is to put to rest anyone arguing that Shaq was better than Hakeem. This kind of thing never happened to Dream, early career Dream was a bit of a knucklehead like 'Sheed was so you might of been able to get him out his hook up, but when he recommitted to his faith and add the H back to his name all bets were off, he was the hoops embodiment of the whole "Bruce Li be like water" ethos. While I am a fan of 'Diesel, Dream was like a force of nature. Anyways thanks for the video Sean! Appreciate you!
Michael Jordan is my all-time...but even I have trouble justifying it sometimes when I compare him with the Dream. I also really appreciated Jordan backing me up by saying he'd take Hakeem first in his fantasy draft. ha!
WOW! I watched this game live and remember Jordan and Pippen tackling him near the end of the great comeback, but I was not aware of the fact that he held Shaq scoreless.
Shaq is definitely one of the best centers of all time, but when Rodman was on him his dominating game wasn't as good as it usually is, but his big ego won't let him admit it , Rodman is one of the Best defenders of all time for a reason
Somebody somewhere sat Dennis down and told him "If you lose your shit and get ejected we lose. If they do, we win." because in chicago he showed incredible restraint... for The Worm anyhow.
@bojo perez So after seven years, being a key member, winning 2 DPOTY, and 2 championships in Detroit, you’re telling me that they didn’t influence Rodman?
Rodman played with a lot of heart, and was such a good defender that he could still be a starter with virtually no offense. He made defense fun to watch. Then as you see, he makes those clutch free throws. Here’s a personal story inspired by Rodman. When my son moved into a higher basketball league, and the established players wouldn’t pass him the ball. I remembered Rodman, and told my son (who was upset and ready to quit) to be “nightmare guy” on defense. I told him, since they won’t pass you the ball, you can play a game within the game. I told him, “Who ever you are guarding to be all over them like Rodman, and make it a nightmare for them to where they pass the ball because you overwhelm them.” From the stands, it was one of the most entertaining games I ever saw because he got in the head of that other kid mentally, and completely shut him down. You could see his spirits lifted. He had a purpose. It was like that all season until one game; the coach and 3 of his star players missed a game for some other league thing. I forget what it was called. Traveling league?? Bottom line my son finally got to show he can play offense on that game. They came back from behind on his shooting a defense, and he scored some clutch jump shots. As a father. That was the best game of my life to watch. The whole family was in the stands on our feet. Some of us were in tears we were so happy. Pretty silly I know.
This guy could guard all 5 positions. Guys like Shaq don't want to recognize how good he really is. They'd pick on the man they can bully... like Dwight.
Shaq said that centers didn't give problems but smaller guys that were power forward give him tougher time like Charles Oakley, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, and others.
I have this game on VHS tape!!! Occasionally we'd record random games, and this one happens to be one of them. I've watched it a lot. Toni Kukoc was the hero!!
To quote a coaching clinic I saw with Jim Boylen. They don't deny in the NBA because the players are too good. "You're not going to deny LeBron James."
