Hey Nick, you could have added the fact that Rodman was cool with other ROLE PLAYERS of this Chicago team. He was close friends with Longley, he went out with Kerr and Buechler (which was mentioned in a Steve Kerr story during "Open Court") and he hung out with some other bench/role players. Probably because he always felt like an outsider, like a "dirty-work-man" and not like a superstar like Jordan or Pippen. So he probably connected more to these guys, because he identified himself more with teammates of his "status". Just a little side note I wanted to add. Nice video though (Y)

Man i remember watching all the Bulls games that season they where so good. Unstoppable. Rodman was so good at getting into other players head.

People forget how good of a scorer Rodman was in high school and college. He also had a few 30pt 20reb games his first year in the league. I think he could have done anything he wanted to do and do it very well. He just decided to focus on rebounds and defense, and became one of the best all time at it.

The NBA loved Rodman so much that they ELIMINATED Hand-Checking!!! There will NEVER be another Dennis Rodman in the NBA ever again!!!

Chicago is my home and I LOVED WATCHING DENNIS PLAY. Dennis could get in the head of whoever he was guarding. Dennis was a good fit because they let Dennis be Dennis. Phil knew how to handle Dennis. I read in Phils book that Dennis bought him a red and black motorcycle for his birthday and had all the Bulls sign it.

I'll never forget the time Dennis came out to sit with my son and I when we had a delayed flight at O'Hare airport. He was back in Chicago for Jerry Krause's funeral. He spent an hour with us just shooting the sh**, taking pictures and videos and wanting to get to know us both. He's a truly genuine and amazing guy.

Our coach taught us a lesson that stuck with me to this day. When we first started we always fought amongst each other and never played as a team. We had the toughest training and we all had talent. After our 3rd lose our coach made us run in the rain until we were exhausted. He then told us "in a team work environment you have to rely and trust on your team mates whether you like or not... im not asking you guys to be best friends outside the court but once inside its you guys vs them. The only person who has your back is your team mate". We came 2nd place that season and i take this philosphy everywhere i go as well as teach it to my staff i manage

Jordan and Pippen recall speaking to him at practices, in lockerrooms, etc. When Dennis Says "outside the court" he means outside of team scenarios. For example, the offseason. Pippen, Jordan and Rodman didn't hang out during the offseason; thus never having had a conversation outside of basketball.

Michael didn't hate Dennis. There were really two guys on the pistons Michael did hate. Laimbeer and Thomas. Thomas it goes all the way back to when it was believed Thomas lead a freeze out on Jordan in a all star game. Laimbeer just because he tried hurting people. Bird didn't like him either. Michael and Joe Dumars actually respected each other. You never heard Jordan hating him. Dennis and a Michael did respect each other. Even in the piston days. But back in those days, if you were on the other team you were the enemy. Now Scottie on the other hand did hate rodman. But to win they put it behind them. Let's put it this way. Michael was willing to have rodman on the team in order to win. But if it were ever the case to say have Isaiah on the team to win, Jordan would have nixed that idea. He truly hates Thomas

His rebounding and defensive skills against big guys like Shaq, Karl Malone, etc were exceptional. He was a bad boy on the court but not egoistic.

Kids today just don't know. They just don't know. They don't see why some of old "old heads" (not that I'm really all that old myself) say things like "Kevin Durant wouldn't have survived the 90s" and why so many were upset that he didn't stick it out with OKC or anywhere else _but_ Golden State Warriors. Not saying you have to play with folks you don't like. If you can find a team that you get along well with everyone and still win, good for you. Some teams benefit from off-the-court camaraderie. And not saying you always have to put up with just anyone on your team, either--some guys are truly impossible to deal with and far harder to work with than others. But to go about NBA basketball (which is an industry of entertainment, at the end of the day) and join an elite team, all at the cost of removing all sense of challenge about your competing (that is, to join a well-oiled stacked team that didn't even _need_ your help)...that's boring. That's just stuff that makes you miss good old-fashioned professionals like Dennis Rodman, someone who didn't necessarily have to be close buddies with his team, but got the job done well and helped to provide unrivaled entertainment, against some teams that were truly gunning hard after Bulls.

The 90s Bulls were one of the best basketball teams ever, back when I actually used to watch basketball. Jordan, Pippen and Rodman was one hell of a combination.

I was a Knicks fan during this time. The Knicks played stout in your face defense. OAKLEY, Ewing, Starks always gave it everything. So much respect for the Bulls. They were the main reason Ewing didn't get his ring. Rodman was such a unique player. Not needing to score, he complemented Jordan and Pippen perfectly. That was a fun time in basketball. The 80s and 90s was wonderful to me in the NBA.

Good video essay. You are spot on with your analysis. I was pissed when the bulls got Rodman. People who understood defense and rebounding, understood how great Rodman was at his job. The fact that he could score 15 a game, if he wanted to, made him all the dangerous. I was livid. That was horrible for the league, the same way Kevin Durrant was for Golden State Warriors. Good for the team's first that got the players, but horrible for their opponents. Yes, Rodman was that great, just like KD is.

Like him or not ....one of the best defensive players of all time. Daly had alot to do with that. The relationship was kinda like Tyson and D'amato.
