How did Sauron control the Nazgul? Were they enslaved to Sauron's power, to the 9 rings of Men or to the One Ring? And was there any way to free the Nazgul from Sauron's control or to somehow take command of them?
In this video we'll be answering these questions and more, as we thoroughly explore the Nazgul's link and loyalty to Sauron.

I allways figured it was something like this: The nazguls are controlled by the nine rings of men. The nine rings are controlled by the one ring. And the one ring is literally a part of Sauron, and so he controlls them all. A "chain a command" of sorts, which ultimately gives Sauron full controll of everything.

I think the best way at first would be to lead them with false information. It would the most likely to work and least likely to bring any suspicion. As long as Gandalf could remain free of the ring’s corruption he could confuse Sauron’s army and slow or even block any direct attacks. If he were to strengthen them using the power of the ring to undo its prior creation of Barad-dur and cause destruction in Mordor.
@_semih_
@_semih_ Год назад
@@MasterMalrubius Actually in another letter, Tolkien said only a being of the same higher nature (I.e a high tier Maia) could hope to withstand the One Ring from Sauron when he came in person. And we have been told that Gandalf/Olorin was a lesser tier weak Maiar spirit(compared to Sauron) so Gandalf with the One Ring would be defeated by Sauron utterly and preserved as a gibbering slave for never ending torment in the Houses of Lamentation in Barad-Dur. In this case there is no way to control the Ring Wraiths

I've always wanted to know so much more about the Nazgul. Who they were before they became the Ringwraiths.... We know only of the Witch-King, but not WHO he was definitively, and we know of the Man of the East, Khamul who was his second-in-command. We then know that three of the remaining 7 were fallen Numenoreans, though we know not if they came with Elendil and the other exiles or if they were minor kings or lords in Middle-Earth that were founded before The Fall. I liked the concept that Isildur was a Ring-wraith, from the Mordor games. Taken from his fate into wraithhood by his pride and one of the nine rings of Men given to his risen form by Sauron. I find that to be a fittingly tragic end for him. I also wish there were room for one or more of the wraiths to be a woman, like the character in Rings of Power that was unexplained, but of course it is made very clear that they were all prideful and powerful males.
@GeekZoneMT
@GeekZoneMT Год назад
Yeah it would be cool if there were more hints about their past, such as the various character that might have been turned into the Nazgul. I'd prefer not having anything definitive to be honest, as it makes it more exciting to try and unravel their history, and they'd also end up losing some of their mystery :)

@Erik Rousu they did, after their unnaturally long lives finally petered out and they became wraiths. but they were all kings, and it would be nice to know which named kings they were. but they were probably unnamed kings from Rhun or the southlands.

What if someone destroyed the nine rings? Would the Nazgul be free from Sauron's will as their link to the One is broken? Would they perish as the rings are what extended their lives indefinitely? Or are they too deep in servitude to the One to be freed this way? Personally, I think it could free them from the One judging by how the One and its destruction affected those who carried it. After the One Ring was destroyed, Frodo immediately felt its burden drop and was free from its corruption, so the destruction of their own less powerful rings should affect the Nazgul in a similar way. Regarding their possible survival, Bilbo started aging more or less normally after he gave up the ring and continued to live for at least a few more years after its destruction, though admittedly the Nazgul have faded much more than Bilbo or even Gollum, so it is hard to say what form of existence they could have after their rings would be destroyed. Notably, the Nazgul all fell at the destruction of the One but it is left fairly vague if the destruction of the ring killed them directly or drove them to essentially commit suicide by volcanoe or if they are still alive but reduced to powerless, bodyless beings similar to their master.

Both Gandalf and Galadriel warned of the corrupting influence of the One Ring and how IT could do terrible things through them. My theory is that to "master" the One Ring is to basically merge with the primal corrupting influence that Sauron put into it, essentially absorbing a portion of Sauron's soul. So, in a sense, you become like Sauron as the new Dark Lord. It's like how all evil in Arda is a portion of Morgoth's evil, as Arda was Morgoth's Ring. In layman's terms, "say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss!"

I wonder if any of the Nazgul actually ever carried out a task that ran counter to Sauron's wishes based on that particular Nazgul's interpretation of an order. In Konosuba, at a point in the story the protagonist Kazuma is bound to the will of a particular antagonist, who will perform favors to people that would feel grateful to said antagonist, causing them to become enthralled to the antagonist's will. When this happens to Kazuma, he deliberately prevents this antagonist from performing any acts that would create gratitude because he felt these new thralls would only ever be a hindrance.

My understanding is that someone with the One Ring and a sufficiently powerful and trained mind, like Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond, and perhaps Aragorn, could in time master the Ring. They then could have commanded the Nazgûl to do their bidding, even to the point of turning against Sauron. But any such wielder of the One Ring would be completely corrupted by this point.

It's definitely something of interest in that if Saruman had succeeded in taking the Ring, the Nazgul would have been under his command(at least he certainly seemed to believe this was the case and when he says as much to the Ringwraiths at Isengard they don't dispute the claim) I wonder then if the same binding of will would have applied to the orcs, uruks, trolls, wargs and other servants of Sauron that were held in line solely by the will of Sauron which was partly infused with the Ring.

Seeing as how he used their own rings to control, my guess is that their own rings of power were tethered to their souls, which I would imagine would make it tricky to bond to new individuals without destroying the previous bonds they had to the Nazgul. It would explain why Sauron made it a secondary goal to collect the Elven and Dwarven rings of power, since then he could essentially give those rings to men and make more Nazgul.

It was possible for one of the Wizards to claim The One Ring, Saruman believed he could do so and supplant the darklord taking full control. Was he correct ? My question would be, can you actually kill or destroy Sauron and keep the ring. You could you dispatch him as was done when the ring was cut from his finger. Sauron did endure this and came back, because the ring endured. So as long as the One Ring survived so did he. So he would come back, how long that would take ? Who knows ? Or his power levels when he did return ? But there's the one factor if he did return, the ring itself would want to return to him no matter who was the ring bearer at the time. That's why keeping it was not an option with the fellowship at all. Destroying the ring was the only way to defeat Sauron, as if it was kept, he would always be a threat in the future, over and over again.
@TarMody
@TarMody Год назад
When the Nine Rings of Power were distributed by Sauron to their original owners, their will and spirit were irreversibly bound to them. Even if Sauron had collected these rings back from the Nazgul and distributed them to other people, it would not have had the same effect. Therefore, the Nazgul were bound to their own rings and, through them, to the will of the One Ring (Sauron). Also even if whoever possessed the One Ring could dominate it, it would result in a process that Sauronized that person. This is my opinion.

Just start a channel called History of the Ages, steal content on Quota and Reddit, make videos on RU-vid, build a huge channel with a couple hundred thousand subs, close the channel when the plagiarized content gets discovered, make a generic apology to the subs, open a new channel and they instantly sub on your new channel and you are back in business. Apart from the elvin rings all the other 16 rings were forged with the malignant act of sauron right?. So, naturally he will deceive the rings/ring bearers once their own rings controlled them from within. They will have no choice but to obey the one ring which will only obey its master sauron. 🤷‍♂️.
