One of Britain's secret rock bands. Far too ingenious for modern, bland sensibilities, they're completely underestimated now. The first four albums are full of wit, invention, satire, and tributes to previous musical styles, with crisp pop songs side by side with extended rock, in a totally unconventional and unique style. They have a complete genre all to themselves...............

I like that album a lot but ironically that's the one song I didn't care for but it was a big hit for them so a lot of people like it and that's fine. I get a kick out of the song Good Morning Judge.

I'm dating myself here, but I always liked this song upon first hearing it in the summer of 75 at 17 years of age. My favorite line has always been, ♫"I keep your picture upon the wall...it hides a messy stain that's lying there"♫. Upon first hearing it, brought a smile to my face and always will, it conjures up in ones mind the image of a frustrated guy being in love and not wanting to be, in a moment of totally losing it, throwing a plate of spaghetti against the wall and being too lazy afterwards to clean up the mess.

Daniel, you have to play this at night, in your bedroom, with minimal light in the room. The members of this band were prolific song writers before 10cc ever came in to being. Graham Gouldman's first hit was a song written that was rejected but then picked up by The Yardbirds which became a hit called "For Your Love". The Yardbirds included Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Gouldman was 16 years of age at the time. Kevin Godley and Laurence Creme went on to become a song writing duo as well as music video producers, producing the following music videos (among others): Asia "The Heat of the Moment" Eric Clapton "Forever Man" Huey Lewis & The News "Hip to be Square" Yes "Leave It" George Harrison "When we was Fab"

Godley and Creme also were the creative masterminds behind the videoclip of Peter Gabriels Sledgehammer. They worked on some kind of mechanical guitar effect the gizmotron. I loved the (weird) album Consequences by Godley and Creme, I can recommend the song 5 o' clock in the morning.

Watch the "making of" video. The sang every note in the scale and held it as long as they could. Each one was looped on long long long tape on its on track. They played it all simultaneously and adjusted the volume on the mixer (played it like an instrument.) to the final mix. Insane. The "Big Boys Don't Cry" whisper was the receptionist in the studio.

The two things that made this a great reaction video are, firstly, you listened to the full version of this classic song. Several reactors before you have done the radio edit which sadly cuts out the musical end outro. Secondly you analysed the song so that you discovered what they had to do back in the mid 70s in order to create that vocal sound. Quite something the lengths they had to go to, in contrast to today when it would be a very simple click on a computer. I have a ton of favorite 70s songs from multiple genres and groups, and edging very close to the top of the list is this one. No matter how many times I hear it I am still amazed at the feelings it evokes. What's more, I don't believe there's ever been a cover done of it.

You can do this type of vocal by singing the notes of a chord on separate tracks and using the faders or draw a volume envelope across each take. Use reverb and a chorus or phaser/flanging effect. Of course you could build it up more layers and do it for every chord change in your song. Copy and paste stacks of vocals unaligned in time to give a smeary sound, much like a Mellotron. These old love songs really bring back memories. The summer of 74 ( maybe) this song was everywhere and it’s etched into my mind forever.

I’m so pleased you like the humour in their lyrics - I thought you’d enjoy them :) 10cc were all northern English men born in the 40s. They’re a stoic lot up there :) To me the denial of love, the “big boys don’t cry”, the deeply emotional music, is the voice of a man who can’t openly declare his true vulnerable, tender feelings because of cultural inhibitions. Eric Stewart said the lyrics were inspired by his wife commenting that he didn’t say “I love you” as much any more. He replied that saying it all the time would diminish the meaning, and that just because he didn’t say it often, didn’t mean he didn’t feel it. I recommend watching the short “making of” video available on RU-vid.

I remember Mr. Jaws, Rex. Those crazy sound bites that Dickie Goodman played . He was too funny. Those were my Summers in the 70's, living in Hawaii. My Father was in the Air Force, my family moved to Hawaii, in the 1970's, when I was 9 or 10. Best of Times. Wonderful memories. ☺️☺️♥️ My Dad was an Air Force Veteran. He passed away in 2018. ☹️

This song was recorded at the end of the quadraphonic craze that used a 4-pt (top right ear/bottom right ear/top left ear/bottom left ear with an occasional shot that blazed across your mind--this feature is exemplified by Olivia Newton-John's cover of the Air that I Breath on her Have You Never Been Mellow) stereo.

This was a big hit for 10cc. Graham Gouldman, a member of 10cc who co-wrote the song, was a very prolific songwriter for other acts and wrote some of the most well-known and popular pop-rock hits of the 60s and early 70s. In 1999, the BBC did an episode of its fantastic show _Songwriters Circle_ in which he appeared with Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House, solo) and Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera) -- three of the best songwriters of the modern pop era, backing each other up on their songs. Most of it's on RU-vid and I can't recommend it highly enough. This song is one of the ones they do together.

The 4 of them would each put on a track….a ahhhhh vocal…each one of them…then ooohss…..and….ehhhhssss……many different back up sounds…..then kept recording them until they had six hundred different voices making these back up vocals ……….they then each took a couple of tracks with their assigned sounds…and played the board like a keyboard…bringing them in and out….it’s……brilliance.

I was 16, and started out with my now wife in June 1975. The song was a sensation. I'm not technically/musically minded but I understand there were many tapes merged into one for this song. 10cc are one of my favourite groups. Musical genius.

This was experimental back in the day. Since I was in Elementary school in the 70’s, I always believed this was a beautiful & haunting love song. You reacting to “I’m Not In Love” Daniel you’re right, the protagonist was in denial, and he was in love. Holy Cow after all these years!! Great reaction, Daniel. ❤❤❤

A hauntingly beautiful song...and, yes, he IS in love, but he is incapable of admitting it, even to himself. This is because of his repressed childhood. ( " Be quiet, big boys don't cry ).....sung so tenderly it just shouts out to you. I've loved this song for years. 💕

10cc were all highly accomplished songwriters and musicians. They could all sing, play multiple instruments, write, produce, engineer, and were innovative artistically and technically. This was a highly influential song when it was released in 1975, and a hit. Apparently it influenced Freddie Mercury when he was writing and arranging Bohemian Rhapsody. Highly recommend delving into their albums Original Soundtrack, Sheet Music, and How Dare You. Next song I would recommend is Art For Art’s Sake or I’m Mandy, Fly Me.

Written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, Stewart came up with the idea for the song after his wife of eight years asked him why he didn't say "I love you" more often.

10CC were a "supergroup" of sorts, all of whom had big UK hits in the past (Godley & Creme as Hotlegs, Eric Stewart with the Mindbenders' Groovy Kind Of Love, and Graham Gouldman was a wunderkind songwriter who'd been producing hits for bands like The Hollies since the mid-60s.) They came together to be the house band at the newly-built Strawberry Studios in Manchester which they'd invested in - their first client was Neil Sedaka! They then decided to write & record their own songs for other artists, but were persuaded to release them for themselves under the name 10cc... their albums are full of cleverly arranged, funny songs in all sorts of genres, well worth checking out... try "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" a multi-part song I think you'll get a kick out of!

Music can have such a magical ability to transport someone back to another time, another place, another lifetime . . . Thanks so much for this one young Daniel . . .this took me back decades . . . Somewhere in the late 1960's - early 1970's olden AM rock radio morphed into something called AOR, Album Oriented Rock . . . With its introduction the 3 minute limit on radio songs was smashed . . . AOR played five minute, seven minute nine minute songs . . . And suddenly songs the length of this one could be heard on AOR radio stations which began typically in large college and university but quickly started popping up in smaller markets . . .

AM morphed into "Talk" radio. FM which was known for Classical music, more and more was replaced by LP Rock starting in the late 60's. There's an episode of Leave It To Beaver, circa 1961, where Eddie Haskell informs Wally that he's just installed an FM radio in his jalopy. When asked by Wally as to why, Eddie proudly informs Wally that people will now view him as "cultured". That episode provides a snapshot into what FM radio was all about in the early 60's.

Big fan of them when I was a teenager. This is yet another rabbit hole to fall down. I recommend checking out their 2nd album Sheet Music, especially the track 'Somewhere In Hollywood', which is a masterpiece, though it's all great. The following albums all really good too. Check out 'Flying Junk', 'Life Is A Minestrone' and 'One Night In Paris' from the The Original Soundtrack. x

this song transports me back to the 1970's as a kid in the car with my family....such a beautiful song and now as a musician I appreciate it it even more. Those note progressions are hugely emotive; sadness. I wonder if a Melotron was used like in RUSH Tears?

The 70's was an epic time for music, experimenting our limits, many many different genre's. I know, I know, o.k. boomer, ha ha. But it's true. We will never experience that type of exploration again.

Hi Daniel. I've watched a couple of your reaction vids recently, but was compelled to subscribe tonight after seeing your "Neil Young -Old Man" reaction and then this one. This 62 year old dude is pleased that a youngster like yourself is digging, and reacting to (quite well, I might add), songs I grew up listening to on the radio so late into the night. The studio receptionist had someone on the phone for one of the boys as they were thinking of having a whisper on the song. The receptionist walked into the session whispering about the phonecall and as she saw them looking at her she rushed back to her seat with one of the boys (I can't remember who) rushing after her. Nice story.
