The 2011 Dallas Mavericks had the greatest playoff run of all time. There is no NBA champion in league history that defeated more superstars in a playoff run. Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Pau Gasol, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and LaMarcus Alridge all had their seasons ended by Dirk and the 2011 Mavs. 5 different NBA MVPs in that list of superstars.

Three different coaches with three different coaching styles and philosophies on how they approach the game of basketball. Something that I was going to put in the video but didn't in fear of making it too long. I honestly don't believe people understand how difficult it is to go from strictly offensive-minded coach with Don Nelson to a defensive-minded coach in Avery Johnson and then to a tactician is and Rick Carlisle instill let your organization consistently to 50 wins every year

To this day I can remember how in 2011 "Heat" fans (now Lakers fans) were talking so big when the Finals approached and they saw that it was Dallas they were matching up with. Those heat fans were talking so much trash saying "ha Dallas only has 1 all star, we have the most talented team in the league, we're gonna destroy them". They also laughed along with Wade and LeBron making fun of Dirk being sick but then as the series progressed and LeBron played like garbage in the 4th and practically the entire series and his 8 point game and after game 6 was done those Heat fans were so upset and butthurt and that was hilarious and now a days those same fans are now making excuses that "Dallas was the favourite and way more talented that series, they were supposed to win" like lol GTFOH losers

KD35Beast yeah I hate how people trying to change that narrative. It was suppose to be Lakers vs Heat that year and The Heat was favorited to win. That 2011 Mavericks team was the deepest team that Dirk ever had but still no other All Star help & still won.

As a diehard spurs fan, and with the mavs being a big rivalry especially from 01-2011 (mainly cuz of Dirk) I've grown to respect this man. Stayed with his team the whole time like my favorite Tim Duncan, even dominated Timmy in the playoffs. Spurs had literally no one that could guard him and when you have Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan on your team and Coach Pop and you still can't stop the man?? That really says something. A pioneer, 7ft big that could shoot and handle the ball well when he was younger, learned to dominate in the post (which led to his infamous fadeaway and championship). Surely an all time great and probly top 30 player all time. I think possible top 5 PF ever. You missed the one of the biggest things. Dirk won his title over the 2nd Superteam in the NBA. The Mavericks won as a team, not a group of 3 superstars coming together to win titles. Dirk was the ultimate professional and the Spurs/Mavericks of the 2000's were always great match ups and the reason the Mavericks didn't win more than one ring was because the Spurs were in the same Division. Its the same problem the Oilers had in the late 70s with the Steelers. Btw, the Mavs were pretty damn good in the mid 80's too. That team had to face the Showtime Lakers at their peak and even carried them to a game seven in the conference Finals.

when you have a player like him who has been in the league for 20 years, he never left his team and season for season dropped incredible stats. but just the fact that a 7 foot guy shoots 3s like a guard changed the face of the game. back in the 90s there was no need to guard a 7feet guy out on the perimeter. Dirk Nowitzki changed that!!!

Thanks for the awesome video! I have always been one of Dirk’s greatest fans in the Philippines since 2000, a country where guys that dunks and swags hard are the most popular. Players like Kobe, Shaq, Vince, T-Mac and Iverson dominates the fandom in our hometown. But I never wavered in my support of the Mavs with Dirk and Nash. I’ve always known how legendary Dirk was, and I’m quite aware how his road in the playoffs has always been the most difficult. I’m also aware that he never had All-NBA teammates during his prime (I didn’t count Nash because when they played together, they were both relatively wide-eyed kids and not yet in their primes.) But your video validated all I know about Dirk Nowitzki. And for that, thank you. Dirk, to me, is the 2nd best Power Forward ever, behind his ultimate rival Tim Duncan and ahead of Garnett, Barkley, Malone, Elgin, Pettit and Elvin Hayes. His 2011 Playoffs is, I believe, the most impressive playoff run in the history, just slightly ahead of the 1994 Houston Rockets.

And let's not forget: during the last game against the Heat, he was sick AF. He was not shooting well because of that, and so he decided to attack the rim instead. He would leave defenders behind him doing that crazy spin and then layup, both on Lebtron and Bosh (if I remember correctly). That game earned him his Hall Of Famer status, and I will never forget it.

I remember one of the last games of the regular season in 07, Mavs played golden st and golden st needed to win just to make the playoffs, and coach chose to rest players since the 1 seed was locked up for the mavs ( and imo as a favor to ex Mavs coach Don Nelson.) I was sure it was a terrible decision when it happened, bc of the matchup problems the athletic warriors created for the 67 win Mavs. Who knows if the warriors win that regular season game if the Mavs played to win, but that was a stupid decision by the coaching staff, and it cost the Mavs and Dirk dearly.
