I think this is one of the good parts about gaining wealth over time rather than suddenly making a lot of money: You learn how to deal with larger sums of money/more assets slowly. That's why lottery winners have such a hard time, they never went through the process of learning HOW to have wealth. Let me give a personal example: I had a few tools for my businesses that I needed for the business to continue to grow. I financed. Depending on how much my business does, I'll either pay them off right away (there's no penalty) or pay as much as I can each month with the money I've made from them.

I disagree with the "ratio" concept. If a family making $100k is spending $15k/yr on groceries, it does not mean that a family making $1M/year should be spending $150k on groceries. For a given location, family size, there is an amount required to provide a healthy diet... and I get that if you have the resources you can guy steaks more often, go out to eat more... but using the ratio makes no sense. There is an amount that it costs to buy a car that is reliable, durable, and provides dependable transportation. Just because I can afford more, doesn't mean I should spend more.

Making $180k. Just donate most of your money and stay humble. Read the Bible. It says it’s easier for a camel to get thru the eye of a needle than a rich man into heaven. All these Ramsey followers, yet hardly any seem to know scripture and what it says about money.

This is why it’s important to realize that money is a tool and not a goal. You need to take a step back and think what you value in life and how you want to spend your money wisely. Once you decide what adds value to your life then you can consciously spend your money there! All while keeping your saving, investing, and debt ratios in line.
