How do I teach sign language my daughter who is CODA? 

As a speech therapist, I would agree that she shouldn't be worried about speech delays as she is exposed to spoken English on a daily basis, and the exposure to two languages will increase her ability to communicate in both languages. I encourage multilingual families to practice their native language as they build upon grammar, listening skills, and cognitive abilities. I often use some sign language and gestures with my students that are hearing and it is beneficial as many students are visual learners. This sounds like a great product that she is using with her daughter!

Even hearing kids with hearing parents need speech therapy. It happens and depends on the kid. People shouldn't make it seem like a negative thing about speech therapy and about a hearing kid with deaf parents. It was nice of you to use this product. I didn't even know it existed.

My sister and I are CODA's. I'm sure I learned to talk from my older sister but she also learned a lot from watching kid's shows on tv. I love the method you're using, it's so cool! My children aren't deaf but I'm still teaching them to sign :)

Lou Ferrigno “Hulk” speaks English and no sign language because he got a hearing aid when he was 4 in 1955. I was so surprised by him. Elon Musk said “What’s the point of sign language in a video if you have substitutes? Am I missing something?” He is right because most deaf people couldn’t understand that closed captioning “illiteracy”. ASL is not great to teach deaf children or a bad education because they struggle how to read sentences. I am still unhappy if ASL exists in some public schools except deaf schools. Hopefully, cued speech will teach them instead in the future. Sigh poor deaf children 😢 STOP TEACHING SIGN LANGUAGE. CUED SPEECH IS THE BEST CHOICE INSTEAD! Sign language is risky because I remember a doctor gave me her note-taking and she wrote “Are you upset”. I didn’t know what a word was but I was 11. That’s a HUGE disappointment. My public school had a bad education, sign language is not English, and DELAY speech. I tried to encourage them to cued speech instead. There are new technologies such as cochlear implants and hearing aids, so sign language is not necessary for deaf children right now. By the way, today is 2024 not the 1800s. ASL is beautiful but it should NOT be taught to deaf children unless teenagers or adults because they will be illiterate if they can’t read or have difficulty writing English maybe.
