Gino Reda is joined by TSN Hockey Insider Ryan Rishaug to discuss the success of the Oilers in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars, as well as the stellar performance of Stuart Skinner.
Right ?! If the stars and their fans who claim superiority think they are playing against the Oilers circa 1998 or whatever they are in for a rude awakening 😂
Exactly, Woodcroft didn't have the balls to not start skinner when Vegas was owning him every game. Might of cost them the series, since we have witnessed the team rallying around Pickard to get a win, and almost 2. Skinner seems to need to be rested after x ammount of games.
I was skeptical about Coffey running the D, but it's clear he has made a significant impact on how the team can now play. I think he played a big roll in getting the players to buy in to a more defensive first structure.
@@vincemedak9734 I’m with you. I thought Coffey coming in was like when MacT helped Nelson to “get a feel for the room” but really just there to spy and meddle. He has completely turned the defence around. Stuart running the PK has been another fantastic move. Really underlines that much of the earlier problems were probably more on Manson than Woody.
@ML-my8qq yes. I am hesitant to pile on manson as he was going through some difficult times through that summer but the failed attempt to switch the defensive structure and the almost instant success at running the same new structure has to be attributed somewhere.
This is the advantage we have coming in as the underdog. Everyone is writing us off and I think it’s going to play into the hands of the Oilers. We need to thank the Vancouver Canucks for the last two games. They showed the Oilers that they need to play a full 60.
@@jodegauthier2984doesn't matter if analysts and fans underestimate the oilers. We need better propaganda! We need the stars to underestimate them, then easy wins lol
Don’t know if you guys noticed but Dallas looked way more tired overall than Edmonton in that extra period. That extra time on ice hurts the stars more than the oil imo.
If Skins continues his strong play... kinda thinking Edmonton did their thing and its Dallas who needs to adjust. Maybe they're not trying cos refs are onside? 80 minutes without a penalty, cmon...
Now your talking like a Player lol last game, last series and regular season are all irrelevant, only thing that matters is the next game until its over
Exactly. Game 1 is the least important. Usually has little to no influence on how the rest of the series will go. I hope the Oilers win, but I said the same thing when we lost to Vancouver in game 1
@@Greenfrom3it completely affects the whole series. It literally sets the tone for the whole series and it steals hole ice advantage. They don't just call it an advantage, it is an advantage
@roberjohnsmith No it doesn't. Game 1 is a feeling out process and then adjustments are made. Game 1 means close to nothing. Home "advantage" is a thing in the NBA. Hardly does it matter in the NHL.
i cant believe so many people undermine the oilers. yes they depend a bit more on 97 but reaching conference finals is no joke. About time they started getting more respect! Oil in 6
Dallas looks much bigger and muscular when on the ice. McDavid will be ready to pounce and take advantage when those big guys get tired. There was a bug in the locker room last series too. Now he’s feeling himself. I’m calling a huge game from him tonight! Oilers win!
Kings and Canucks were much bigger ..imo they were more physical than what I've seen from Dallas thus far...Dallas plays a similar game to us....but if they want to play physical the Oil can bring that too! As they did in the two previous series and prevailed ....G O G!
McDavid played only about 15 minutes, Stars had 10 minutes of PP time, Oilers only 2 minutes and Oilers STILL won the game! Oilers have depth too! the bottom 6 competed just fine vs Dallas bottom 6. I'm sure Dallas will make adjustments game 2, will be a much tougher game for the Oilers but I believe these are the best two teams left in the playoffs. It will probably go 6 or 7 games with lots of great hockey coming up!
Ya. The whole segment was talking about game 1. So when you watch the segment and it's about game 1, that's because you clicked on a video that's about game 1 and how it gives us a look into the series.
Dallas might be a good road team but they are in for shock when they get to Oil Country. Those arenas don’t compare. The Stars won’t even be able hear their coaches over the fans.
@@theAV8R I totally got that wrong. That being said, Colorado fans don't go hard like the oil fans. The arena is insane, you have to be there to see it for real to get it
"Oilers, especially you defensemen, Cece, Nurse.....Keep your heads on a swivel....Dont allow Dallas to be cherry pickers! They were trying long stretch passes all game in gm 1.....they even had one clear cut breakaway....NO freebies....dont make it hard on yourselves!
Dallas scored 2 "lucky" goals and couldnt score on 5 pps, with one being a dbl minor in OT..... And you question the best offensive team in the NHL?.....Okay..🙄
Mcdavid will never be a free agent signing until maybe his final years if he decides to hang on or go for one more cup run somewhere. IF he leaves the oilers it will be a trade. There is no way the oilers let either him or drai walk with nothing in return. Besides...if he was a free agent you don't have anywhere near enough cap space to sign him.
These two idiots talking about how the Stars depth was overrated after Game 1..was the Panthers depth also overrated when the Bruins whooped them 5-1 in game 1? Similar series. Stars had a week off like the Panthers did, and the Bruins had just come off a Game 7 - like the Oilers did... Add that to the fact that Stars pretty much always lose Game 1, and you have a meaningless Game 1...Stars in 6.
Oilers are counted out before the series start they win game 1 and they give them credit for the win how dare they!! Dallas is supposed to streamroll these guys just let them have it..
