I've owned Legacy speakers for over 20 years. When I've gone to audio shows, I've found that I wouldn't trade mine for speakers twice the price - or most four times the price. I listen to all types of music, and they deliver on everything. If I can ever afford more than I have, I'll stick with Legacy - the Valor are astonishing.

@@SpecOfTech I loved them but they were always out of my price range. The difference between Legacy and a speaker under $5k / pair is enormous. The first time I heard the true value of a super tweeter was when I listened to the pair you just bought. They're also an absolute gorgeous speaker. You cannot look at any of the Legacy towers and not know they're high end speakers.

Been waiting for this one amd was not disappointed. The sound was rich a thick like molasses, just amazing. I am a firm believer that a tower should never be able to take the place of a subwoofer because the woofers in a tower are designed to match with the other drivers for seamless transition and it is nearly impossible to do that from 300hz down to 20 Hz as the tightness of the higher bass frequency will be lost. With these Legacy's you can set your crossovers at 50 Hz and let the sub take over from there and you will have near perfect transition to the lowest frequencies while maintaining the highest of sound quality in the upper bass area.

I agree Shane, that is one reason why I got the Legacy Classic HD's, the other is a $7000 difference between the Focus and the Classic. There definitely is a sound and performance difference where the Focus win hands down

Great review. I own the Legacy Focus 20/20's and also the Legacy Studio HD's in two different rooms. I truly love them both and the Focus's can rattle walls sub sonically. They are so very revealing and dynamic and I won't part with them unless I have to....

I've owned the Focus SE's for about a year and generally agree with your comments, especially the lack of magnetic grills. Rap and Hip Hop are my main genres and, while I do own dual SVS SB4000's, the Legacy's are more than capable of doing justice to bass heavy tracks on their own. I find that when I use the subs I can keep the main volume down to more comfortable levels. Finally, I had some shipping issues with my speakers. Even though the problems were not the direct fault of Legacy, they were amazingly supportive and ultimately arranged for a private carrier to deliver them to me at no extra charge. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Marquis XD to replace the Silverscreen HD I originally purchased. Thanks for a great review!

@@aitz28 Happy to share feedback. The Marquis XD is undoubtedly the best center speaker I've ever owned and I'd suspect, one of the best available at any price. It's basically a full-range speaker that can handle anything the Focus SE's can., but in a [slightly] more compact cabinet. It even uses the same 4 inch AMT ribbon mid-tweeter design for exceptionally clear yet non-fatiguing highs. The Silverscreen was a good speaker too but, ultimately, I wanted a center I felt was fully on par with my L&R's.

YA MAN! Been waiting for this one! Great video! I can 100% agree with everything you said about the Legacy"s. As a very proud owner of the Legacy Classic HD's, a smaller version of the Focus SE, I have experienced virtually the same things. The set up you have with the new Nuprime AMG's is phenomenal having listened to it. For me, I can't imagine what could better the Legacy's without selling your home, vehicle, and possibly the wife or kid's!! (kidding lol) They are just that good. My movie watching has plummeted down.(for now) I am now severely addicted to Tidal and 2ch music, as any audiophile addiction, I have a pair of PS Audio Stellar M700 Monoblocks on the way to destroy any brain cells I might have left!! According to PS Audio, Legacy has designed the speakers to perform their best with Class D amplification, hence Legacys Wavelet and Masters series amplifiers, Nuprime also. Couldn't be happier with my Legacys!! A very big thank you for coming over and helping me with some setup! Made a big difference!👍👍

Nice review. I helped my Audio body to pick his Focus SE yesterday. We're a used like new pair, taken in trade-in from another audiophile. We set the speakers in his room paired with a 4 channel Legacy amp. Like you said, we heard sounds that we're missing by his previous speakers ( Vandersteen 2C ). I was impressed by the clarity, imaging, tone and piano reproduction. Very wide soundstage too. Wind instruments, percussion and small instruments sounded fantastic. We heard differences with the Highs 2db toggle up. It improve the sound on his room. Bass is a bit to heavy though on some music but he still playing around with speakers location. The room is very narrow ( 12' x 24' ). I suggested him to use the long wall instead of the short one but that will take time to try around. All in all, a great combo.

You pair these, or the Focus 20/20, with at least a Hegel 360. Need more bass, add a Class D amp for the woofers or opt for the SE internal amps. I actually went back to the 20/20 for 2 channel music. The mid range and the AMT drivers sound better the higher the damping your amplifier topology can provide. I like to refer to Legacy speakers as "the most accurate party speakers" I've heard. Thanks for the review

Thanks for watching. I do have them paired with Nuprime Class D amps currently. I love the detail and articulation, but the bass does seem lean for dual 12" drivers.

These are a sealed cabinet, yeah? The bass would be fast but not boosted with a vent.. Sounds like an incredible balance. I am convinced that I would love these ( by your description ) - Awesome !!! Im happy for you!

Interesting. I asked legacy about the magnetic grills and they were concerned that the magnets would affect the sound. I don’t use the grills anyway, so who cares. My room provided a tremendous amount of bass and I had to place bass traps in the corners and some treatment on the ceilings. Definitely no subwoofers needed here. On taming the room bass modes, the highs came through. The low end details are incredible, you can actually hear the kick drums. Many times I stopped and went looking around thinking that someone was walking through my house…whew, it was just the bass. Acoustic guitars sound incredible, but these speakers excel with tube amplification, they are so sweet. Try “you and your friend” by Dire Straight on a tube amp. Oh so heavenly.

That is interesting, because they do use magnetic grills on their Marquis center. I don't see how a properly secured magnetic with a thick finish over top could affect the sound in anyway, so that does seem like a weird answer. Unfortunately, it is when you don't use the grills that the peg and grommet grills are most noticeable, because you can see the grommets lol. I am glad you are experiencing more than an adequate amount of bass with your setup. I would actually be curious to try the Aeris in my space, just to see if the bass would be more suited for my room. What finish did you get your Focus's in?

@@SpecOfTech My finish is standard walnut to match the floor. I found using the provided spikes tightened up the bass much more than the rubber feet,but that’s because the floor vibrates a bit. Due to the height of the speakers, some instruments like the sax seem to emanate from high above the ears, giving the sound a realistic image of a live performer. These speakers have handled anything I threw at them really well, from classical to reggae, and they make bad recordings sound palatable. I find that most European speakers do well with classical, jazz and soft rock/pop and do miserably with rock, rap and reggae. I have the silverscreen center, and it’s so clear that I can finally turn off the closed caption. It sounds fantastic with an Emotive processor, and less so with the Yamaha, but still very nice. I will pony up for the Marquis soon.

They had sent me the Studio HD rear surrounds at one point, but sent the wrong pair. Not only were they the wrong pair, they were a refurbished blemished pair and one was missing a grill, among other issues. I will cover it all in the surrounds review haha.

@@SpecOfTech Personally I am shocked at Legacy, a company of their stature in the Hifi world would even send something like that out. Makes one question the quality control. Like buying a brand new Porsche 911 with bent rims, bald tires and scratches on it! WTF? I ordered my Classic hd's and center at the same time, fortunately my speakers were flawless, but took 4 weeks longer to arrive. Bottom line is I just love em!

@@MusclesAVS These speakers are very rich and full, the bass is clean, but the bass also brings out the lean in clean lol. For my bass preference, I use them with subs, even in 2 channel. That being said, it would take some pretty hefty bass in a tower to get me to the point where I wouldn't want to use a sub. How is the bass with those beastly 9H's?

Big stuff for a small room, no doubt it's sound good but imagine if you had room acoustic panels. You wouldn't have to go extreme to get amazing sounds 😉. Good information video.

Thanks for watching. The room is 21' x 17' x 8' and open to rest of the 4 level split home. So my equipment is exactly what I need. But yes, room acoustics is on my list of things to do, it will help. But my room already does a pretty good job of diffusing and absorbing, but improvements can definitely be made.

🤭😄😄 sorry I just had to laugh. Obviously you've never heard the saying "you get what you pay for" I've own many speaker brands including Bowers & Wilkins but acoustic panels certainly did not make my cheaper Klipsh RP 8060FA sound anything like the Bowers or my Legacy Audio speakers. Also small room? Do you even know how big these speakers are in real life? It's shocking to say the least lol. His room is plenty big if he can fit all those speakers in his front stage plus a amp rack. The distance looks sufficient as well because I own these speakers in the XD configuration and it's hard to get them in one video if they are spaced apart and your not far back enough.

The center channel is amazing, so incredibly clear and dynamic, just like the towers. I have never heard anything that would make me second guess the center, it matches with the towers incredibly well.

@@andreemilsen369 I wasn't a fan in the past either, usually I try to have an identical tower as my center channel. In this case the Focus SE towers were to tall to have one as my center, but now that I have heard the Marquis XD, there is no need for a Focus SE as a center. Although, I would still like one in the future, just for aesthetic reasons.

I guess you didn't know but you can actually pay a 300 dollar US upcharge and they will remove the peg holes in your speakers and replace everything with magnetic grills. That's what I plan to do when I order my Focus SE. the Burl is an amazing finish and I dont want to see any holes in the front. Legacy Audio wrote me directly. Here's the conversation. me: just so I'm clear. for the additional $300 there will be no holes in the fronts of the speakers and instead using magnetic grills? LA: Yes, that’s correct. I’ve confirmed with the designer… magnets would be installed, no holes in the front.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention, that option was never mentioned to me. In my opinion, given the price of these speakers, the magnetic grills should be standard, not cost extra.

I looked at your links on video equipment. Those can't be svs ultras.they look way b8gger.i have power sound s3600i which r 2 18"subs in 1 box and are smaller.but amazing set up.focus have been and end game speaker to me since the late 90s.i couldn't afford them at that time when they were about $6000 a pair.so bought def tech bp3000tl. Which r great,now focus $r 12000.lol.maybe used i can find some.nice video!

You know, I like a good sounding set of speaker but holy crap 10k 😳😱. I have a nice 1k Yamaha amp, klipsch 8000f with a klipsch 12” sub and it sounds just fine to my ears. I could afford these but you get to a point of diminishing returns.

Absolutely, it all depends on priorities and what you like to spend your "hobby" money on 😉. IMO, it depends on how much good sound is worth to you, similar to someone buying a Ferrari over a Challenger Hellcat. The Hellcat is one hell of a car, and faster than anyone could ever need, but the Ferrari is still a Ferrari, and will always cost more. The idea of diminishing returns varies greatly based on the individual. In the end, it all comes down to whether or not you enjoy your system. If the Yamaha amp, Klipsch 8000F and 12" sub makes you happy and you enjoy the sound...that's all that matters for you. For me personally, I wanted these speakers, I had the means to get them, and I don't regret it. Thanks for watching brother...cheers.

No sorry I can't, I have not heard the Sopras, so it wouldn't be fair for me to give my opinion. One thing I can tell you is that the Legacy Focus SE are an amazing speaker that compete with much more expensive speakers with their sound quality.

It would be possible, sure, but I would then need to raise my TV higher. Where they are now, you would never know they aren't aligned by listening.

Right now I don't own any subwoofers of my own. I have several in for review, so I haven't quite felt the need to replace my subs. I was using the JTR CAP2400's most recently, but I've owned quite variation of subwoofers in the past. I need to make an updated tour video to highlight the equipment I use. The last one I did is no longer remotely accurate to what I'm using.

@@mlmsuccesswitherik They absolutely hold their own. Their bass is balanced, and capable down to 18hz. If you like elevated bass, they pair very well with a subwoofer though.

I miss the Legacy speakers, they sounded amazing. If I didn't have so much trouble with QC and customer service, I would have kept these. That being said the Legacy speakers are significantly more expensive than the Paradigm and Sonus Faber speakers.

@@SpecOfTech Thanks. My room's smaller than yours, though I have a higher ceiling. Though the Focus SE has been my fantasy speaker, I may well pivot to the Signature SE for easier delivery and managing them physically when I've gotten older (almost there now). Plus, the Signature will be more flexible in terms of setup since they're not ported.

Haha, I almost always need a subwoofer in my room. It's a larger room and open to the rest of the house. My room really eats up bass. Although the Paradigm Founder 120H's I recently purchased do an excellent job with their triple internally powered 8" drivers. I still mostly use a sub with them as well, but most people would be extremely satisfied with the bass on the Founders.

@@SpecOfTech Thanks for sharing. I always thought if a tower speaker had larger drivers for base, it will produce bass like a subwoofer. On a side note. I have a question for you. Do you think it's overkill and or useless to have tower speakers around the box? Example, surround backs and surrounds. Accompanied with the LCR.
