I will never forget the day I found out I was having a girl I said "I can never look in the mirror and say anything negative about myself ever again." Well, 5 years and another Daughter later I haven't always followed through on that but it's soooo important to me that they have good body image and self esteem. As their mom I feel like alot of it is up to me. I loved this advice of focusing on strength. Also the fact that just the level of engagement helps. Thanks for this!

When society constantly tells women that they are victims it's pretty hard to convince them that they're not. I expect that children today will grow up to be unconfident no matter what parents do.

Women do have things systematically against them. It's good to teach them about that systematic oppression and how to navigate that and give them all the skills they need to believe in themselves that they are powerful, adequate, smart, strong, & capable of doing whatever they want to do in life if they work for it and know they're good enough.

I also want to add that I’m a woman and I’m confident in myself and my abilities. Even with that confidence, I’ve experienced discrimination. It’s not mutually exclusive. I can know my worth and still point out when I am not being treated the way I should be.
