How do we respond to the liturgy crisis? The future of the Latin Mass after Traditionis Custodes 

I grew up Anglican before converting to Catholicism. I had attended the New Mass as an Anglican saw more modernity than I did in my High anglican service and saw no need to convert. That changed when I attended a couple Eastern Liturgies and finally the TLM. Finally, here was a liturgy that was man's best. The New Mass is not a liturgy fit for worship of a God so infinitely perfect and majestic beyond our comprehension. Today, with current events, many traditionally minded Catholics are arriving, often in a state of shock and disbelief, at the conclusion that Lefebvre and the SSPX have been preaching for decades. There's only one solution to the crisis, and it's a very simple one. Practice the Faith, most of all in the Mass, as it had been handed down for centuries: Tradidi quod et accepi.

Cameron, I suggest you read the autobiography of Abp. Marcel Lefebvre. For over 35 years he has been persecuted for just wanting to ordain good priests in the latin rite. Much is owed to Abp. Lefebvre for anyone who attends a Latin Mass.

Abstracting people from the Church, as if The Church is reducible to seats of power or mere history, is part of the problem. The Church saves us - absolutely true --, but we in turn play a part of saving other members through our lives, work, and words. If this were not so, St Jude would not instruct us to "save others" by bearing witness to the truth. It's the great interconnectedness that Paul describes in Ephesians. All too often, theological clichés and overly-simplistic dicta breed the sort of heresy we think we're avoiding by using them. All that said, I look forward to hearing about a (yet another) map through the current firestorm of scandal. I don't have a simple answer, so it could very well be this is *THE* solution. Or maybe part of one. Pax!

Does anybody know where this was held? It's definitely a former church that is being rebuilt so will a traditional catholic group be there?

We're in the middle of March, things are going badly, no updates for a month now, what's happening, should we start loosing interest ? Maybe part 2 should have been nearly completed before releasing part 1 ?

Frankly, for me, this talk outlines in a concise fashion the whole problem with the Traditionalist movement. It runs like a conversion story: "I used to be Novus Ordo; now, I'm Catholic" or "How I found the True Faith at the Tridentine Mass". I didn't fully sympathize at first with the Pope's rationale for "Traditionis Custodes". But, I am starting to understand why Pope Francis is concerned.

They are after REVERENCE!

One can say a Norvus Ordo mass in Latin using Gregorian Chant as the music for the mass. In fact, that is what the documents of Vatican II appear to prescribe as the norm. Despite what some bishops are saying, one can even celebrate it ad orientem. (But I would obey the bishop on that point, even if he is wrong).

Excellent points are made. But, could we get over the distaste for guitars? Pipe organs were considered a modern novelty when first introduced, and inappropriate to divine worship -- which should be unaccompanied singing. The Eastern churches still hold to this, so . . .

Why won’t you release episode 2 yet?

I feel like Francis is a modern day Martin Luther that has gotten into our church and I refuse to follow him. Over the past several years, the church seems to have disappeared and I stopped attending the modernist protestant liturgy altogether. I only attended the Traditional Latin Mass. Now that the Traditional Mass is being attacked and taken away, I feel like I'm just drifting and I will not return to the modernist ways that drove me away in the first place.

What is the point in trying to live and be more “ traditional” but yet be against the pope. The church fathers has taught us that in order to hold tradition is to be obedient to the pope. It’s like yes we can look traditional and defenders of the liturgy but yet be in disobedience to the pope. How would the saints act in this manner? Would they go against the pope? Or do we have pride and think we should be the ones to say what goes? Brothers and sisters let us be obedient, yes I know there are some troubles and questionable things on the mass but we should seek guidance and clarity unless we fall in the snares of the devil. May god help us see the light.

If Francis removes our Traditional Latin Mass, I will withdraw all my financial support from my Archdiocese and go to a Sedevacantist parish. I have no other choice

No complaints about the overall counsel and generally upbeat tenor of this presentation. That said, we could all benefit from cleaning up our use of terms. For instance, the term "Latin Mass" is *way* too vague. Does it refer to any Mass recited in Latin? Well, even the reformed Mass can be said in Latin. Does it refer to any Mass said according to liturgical books approved for use in the Latin Church before 1970? Well, that can include the Dominican Rite, the Rite of Braga as well as the older version of the Roman Rite. Also, what is commonly (and sometimes derisively) called the "Novus Ordo" is really the one expression of the Roman Rite in the Latin Church nowadays, per the pronouncement of Pope Francis. The Roman Rite has been reformed, there's really no going back. Some prefer the way it was before 1970, this we know, and the Holy Father has allowed for continued use of the 1962 missal for saying Mass. My guess is that eventually Rome will approve of some version of the older missal as the basis for a distinct Rite within the Latin Church, not too different from what is in place with the Anglican Ordinariate.

The problem is not the Latin Mass that has been the problem but rather the way the mass has been used by a minority of Catholics who have no desire to follow the Pope and to seek solidarity with over 90% of the rest of the Catholic Church who make charity the foundation of their faith rather than one specific liturgical modality stemming from an era of European triumphalism and the exploitation of colonial people all under the impression that God did not come to dwell within us and live among us by taking on flesh but instead desired above all else to be worshiped in Byzantine splendor as though Jesus had never been born in Bethlehem. The Latin Mass contingent has become infected by many who prefer an inbred and self-congratulatory church complacent and self-involved and in this way shows its resemblance to the followers of jansenism in France during the 1700s who also thought that they alone had the inner secret of salvation like the gnostics before them. The vast majority of the bishops realize the danger that the church is fragmenting around various splinter groups many of whom ridicule the Pope and have allowed politics and a servile following of a secular ruler who claims to be the chosen one to take precedence over Church unity. Rather than let America spread its divisive mindset to the rest of the world Pope Francis has had to take measures to reintegrate the Catholic Church.

The Christian faith is a lot bigger than "traditional latin mass" versus "novus ordo mass". Deciding which Mass to attend is a matter of personal aesthetic preference. Endless bickering over the liturgy is only an exercise for the ego. We can rest in Christ because he is HERE and NOW--not confined to one type of Mass or another. Christ is in all things. That is the good news of the gospel. At one time, I needed to attend Mass--both TLM and NO--to feel the presence of God. No longer. I don't disavow any Mass in any way, but Christ is universal. Experience the perfect peace of just "being" in unity with him. As St Augustine said, "Love God, and do what you want." May God bless you all.

The Novus Ordo has been the Mass of the Roman Catholic church for slightly over 50 years. If you are indeed a faithful Catholic, you will follow the lead of a church council and of multiple popes, to deal with this fact. You may not like it, you may not like a lot of things that the Catholic church teaches. But if you are truly faithful, you follow where the Church leads you. And for over 50 years, it has led you to the Novus Ordo. If this isn't good enough, there are churches in communion with us that have different types of Masses. Join those churches. Leave the rest of us to be faithful, obedient Roman Catholics.

Imagine being more attacted to a specific liturgy (that has changed so many times and isnt the "latin mass" of the past) over your church. Cameron cant break down scripture for me but he can cry about a specific liturgy all day.
