I had no idea that there was even a way for wheelchair users to surf and share that magical experience of gliding effortlessly along on the water... until you nosedive into the crashing wave and have to paddle for 30min to catch the next wave 😂 Katherine was super kind for sharing her journey and I hope we all continue learning about different communities in the world!
we can do almost anything! wheelchair dancing, rock climbing, ive even personally done sit ski/adaptive ski and it was amazing! the only downside is that adaptive sports equipment is super expensive.
as a wheelchair user I love how you showcased all the cool skills she has and let her talk about accessibility. these videos, full of understanding and respect, are much more needed in the world! this was one of the best videos I have ever seen [by non-wheelchair users] about how disabled wheelchair users function! seriously thank you and stay safe during covid.
As someone who is physically disabled, but who doesn't use a wheelchair, I think it's so amazing that there are ways who people who have mobility challenges to participate in activities that would otherwise be impossible
Wow what a champion!! This was so inspirational!! I’m a surfer!! This is awesome!! I have had some health issues where I wasn’t able to surf, but they have gotten better and I will be able to this summer!! Super excited!
@@markianb there are even some special wheelchairs that can go into the water and float, or can roll on sand which as you showed is super hard and also messed with how your chair rolls because sand gets everywhere
What a great video. Glad she gets out and have some fun in the sun. I wanna go 🏄♀️ I have never been before. I would have to improve my swimming skills first. She is inspiring. I wish we could see what a couple of days in her life is like.

Read Surf Mama by Wilma Johnson for a first hand account of someone who learnt to surf at 40. Better still, after reading it, go and find out for yourself, as no one can say how you will take to it: but what matters is how much you enjoy it, not how good you are and I have a health warning for you: it's addictive!
