At 66 I bought my brand new 2023 Low Rider ST. I justified the cost based on 44 years of a career and the average life expectancy of an American male. Basically, I wanted it so I bought it.

Because I'm a grown a$$ man with a job and my HD makes me happy

You know I always subscribed to there’s always that initial spend getting into my hobbies. Whether it was back in the day when I played too much golf, or when I snow skied in the winter, or started riding Harleys, once I had all my gear, all my equipment, my bike, the spend was manageable. We all need to find that hobby/activity, that keeps a smile on our face, that refreshes our mind, and be smart to not overspend. When you keep the financial stresses in being over-extended out of the hobby, you simply enjoy it to the fullest.

Bought a new electraglide classic in 2007, still have it. I was 52 had rode all my life and knew what I wanted . After riding it 17 years I just put 4 grand into it to completely replace everything it needed. I'm 69 ill ride it until I die, don't care about the newest and upgraded stuff, I care about riding, and there is nothing like riding something that has became a part of you.

Riding my motorcycle is cheaper than therapy.

It makes me happy, and it is the least I can do for myslef

1. Same philosophy here.. save for tomorrow but not at the expense of the day. Reason we travel so much you can’t take it with you. Waiting till retirement to travel is dumb.

The smell of fresh cut grass, camp fires smoldering from the prior night, manure, race gas after an old muscle car goes past. The fresh smell right when it starts to rain. The wind. Riding with no destination or timeline. Peace. Wife used to ask, as I was chilling in the recliner after a ride, if I was tired? Nope, just super relaxed. 😎

I worked hard and long (42 years with the US Army) so I feel I’ve earned the right to spend my retirement money not only on myself but on my wife and grandkids. I can’t take either the motorcycle or my retirement check with me when it’s my time so I’m going to enjoy it while I can. By the way, what did you think of Barber Motorsports Museum?

I didn't get back into riding until after the kids were well into school or done and my wife went back to work. Started small. Was at a good point in life and work so I moved to my 2020 RGS. In the time I have owned this one we have had a change in job and state we live in. For a bit this brought into serious focus with my wife if this expense was really needed. Not riding, my choice of ride. Back to a point where we are doing well so that focus is gone. Will be all mine in 2 more years. Upgrades are a bit tougher to get approved. 🤔 Actually, I take that back. A few upgrade requests have been approved knowing full well that, at the moment, they are not in the budget. Hmm Ah well. A green light is a green light. They will happen eventually. This hobby is fun and it helps me relax some. My wife is fine with this. As long as I am safe and return home to her. Be safe out there!

Motorcycles, as a mode of transportation, are far less expensive than cars. They get far better mileage, the machine is (generally) less expensive than a car. The only piece of gear you HAVE to have is a helmet in most states. That being said, the assorted gear we enjoy and upgrades we like are very pricey. I have 3 Harley jackets, 2 leather, 1 mesh. I have a couple different pairs of HD gloves. I have bought 5 helmets within the last year. And don't get me started on boots! LOL. I have added things to my already awesome Freewheeler. Did it need them? No, not at all. I bought an amazing trike. Did I want them? Yup. She is now MY bike, not the previous owners. Yes, I have spent a lot of money on this new hobby. I have a good paying job and am finally able to enjoy the fruits of my labor rather than just paying for the necessities.

Your 1st Harley is usually the most expensive! What do I mean? When you trade it in, or sell it the equity greatly (usually) reduces what you pay on your next Harley, and so on.

I am a one. Luckily I have always had good credit and disposable income. I bought my first Harley after I retired and it was a love at first sight purchase. After that I was hooked. I then hung out with friends who all loved their Harleys. I also got another job after I retired. Good video.

🔥🔥 Yup. Still here. Mike from Tennessee here. My wife and I were blessed to be able to retire at 50 years old. We paid cash for our new Gold Wing (not because we're rich, but because we could), and we don't really consider motorcycling an expensive habit. It CAN be, but we don't let it get out of control. I've never had any interest in Harleys (no offense...I just like Gold Wings best!). Fuel economy is great, and gas is relatively inexpensive here in TN, so we can ride for a long time with minimal expense. We don't do any touring because my 94-year old dad lives with us, and we can't leave him for days on end. We try to do an occasional overnighter, however. The possibilities are endless here in northeastern Tennessee!! All the other reasons you gave were great! At the end of the day, it's all about balance and priorities. Don't sacrifice important things for your own satisfaction. Take care of what matters first and foremost. Motorcycling is a LEISURE thing, so treat it that way. Ride safe, ride well, and ride often!

Really having my Harley is really one of the only luxuries or extravagances I allow myself. I've worked all my life and am on the verge of retiring for my second and final time. It's what I enjoy.

We are born with nothing and we'll return to nothing, whatever we do in the inbetween is what matters. I used to save alot more money before I go into motorcycles six years ago, meanwhile ive owned 6 different bikes, done road trips, spend way too much money on modifying bikes.. but to me it was all worth it because ive done/experienced things I otherwise never would have, and those experiences are worth more than any type of money.

"0" that amount comes out to $66.50 a week I didn't have that much extra until the 1990's and spent it on family. I had a Norton 650 in the `60's a Triumph Bonneville in the `70's and a Honda 750 4 cylinder in the `80's. I am bike-poor at present but whenever possible I will buy a Harley = wanted one all of my life.

1, Im 31 with no kids. my wife and i both ride so i gotta pay for 2 bikes lol. i had 3 bike payments until recently when i paid one off and sold it. when you work hard, it feels justified to spend some of that hard earned money.

I have a job and I pay my own bills. Hence no one can tell me what to do with the rest of my money.

LOL, I do what I want, when I want, so long as the Minister of Finances approves it :D Bikes are expensive, but they don't HAVE to be. Keepin' up with the Joneses [or Tys, in this case] could get expensive quick.

Paid cash for a Shadow 750 that I rode for 15 years. Big fat 0 for years. HOWEVER, got my first HD almost a year ago and I’m definitely a 1 this year 🤣

It’s a passion and the life it’s now tomorrow it’s uncertain so fuc it do it now when you can and enjoy til last day of your life

0, Just a little below of 16mo of owning my first HD. A side hustle has worked good for me over the yrs but not so much now. And I agree, a man needs to treat himself well due to extra hard work but don't forget to spoil your significant other in return.

1 ... LOL, those "estimates" don't count me. I spend way more than that on my hobbies, some of them by themselves [LEGO], but others are less [motovlogging].

1 - Motorcycle travel expenses

My father told me if you work hard you deserve to spoil yourself, and to be happy, you can’t take it with you, and the most important one don’t do it if you can’t afford it or to maintain it. I’ve come to the conclusion no matter the hobby you’re going to spend some money be it fishing or motorcycling you can’t let it take from you and or family…. I almost forgot to ask where did you get your vest from

The simple answer is that it can't be justified. Easy. I would NEVER finance a motorcycle, nor a boat, etc. I paid cash for my Harleys (Heritage, 2003; Pan America 2023), and yes, they were pricey. I bought the machines that I wanted; including a couple of small Honda cycles when I was learning. I bought my Heritage for classic feel, sound, styling, and touring. I purchased my Pan America for ADV riding as well sport crusing. I love the tech, and I really enjoy the culture. butt... ... and this is the big butt, I CAN NOT JUSTFY THE HOBBY. The smaller but, I'm retired, the house is paid off, the kids are raised, the insurance is paid up... and I'm paying no finance charges nor interest. 🤷 1 marcus

Finance a motorcycle? No thanks. I paid my '23 FXLRS in one month. I had no intention of being tied down to Eagle Mark bank. BTW, as soon as you get a loan through them, your credit rating drops a bit. They're considered a risky consumer loan source. That doesn't surprise me with all of the shady loans that dealers offer. Be ever so careful about taking out a loan for a bike/boat/ATV for any more than 3 years. 72 months for a motorcycle??? NO WAY!!! So. I guess I spent $23K on my hobby last year. I'm sure that will be much less this year.

#1 Ty spending money 💰 on your bike isn't a problem it's better than blowing your money on strippers or ect.. 1000% your so right ..

Dave "You don't need a car" "You don't need a Harley" "You don't need blah blah blah" Ramsey is the spoiler of the American dream! Sure, he turns lives around but mandates sacrifices for his clients and those sacrifices take years. People aim to live for the moment, not to sell luxuries to be inconvenienced.
