i served 20 yrs in the Marines, and the idea and concept of loyal friends like his, are remarkable. your video is an awesome tribute to Mr Wick! thanx!
@@danielniels22 I think the quote talks about how friendship means little when it is only used for personal benefit. If the friendship merely exists to fulfill a personal need or being "convenient", and nothing else, it has no real purpose. However, true friendship is when both people are willing to go above and beyond and not just look at what they can take from the other person.
@@danielniels22 I also take it to mean that it’s not real friendship if you’re friends only during the easy and convenient times. It’s only true friendship when you’re friends even during difficult times, especially when something is at risk or needs sacrifice.
i mean it still kinda makes sense? caine was too busy caring and watching over his daugther, so on for everyone else they r just busy with their own lifes. marcus just had free time ig 😂
I think John has so many friends because of his honesty and loyalty to the code of conduct as an assassin. His friends see that although he is ruthless, he has compassion and is dependable; John keeps his word no matter what and always shows respect. John has a heart that compels his enemies to often change for the better once they see he is actually a good dude in a murderous world. John shows honor and integrity among men/women in their world where treachery and betrayal are dishes served cold. John is feared by all, respected by many, and genuinly loved by a few who are equally important to him - Winston definitely sees John as a son and clearly loves him as such.
Him having a heart of gold and being part of a very, VERY few people who expresses compassion and professionalism is most likely the key factors. A man modivated by work, family and principal. Honourable traits. Not easily persuaded by money and exploits of others. John really is, in many ways, one of a kind.
How does a hitman who used to kill countless people for money have a heart of gold ? Just because he is mostly better than the antagonists and is the protagonist , it doesn't mean that he is a good person .
@@segro123 I don't think iam missing anything here other than the logic of calling a professional killer a good person . Especially with a heart of gold like wtf. It's not like he is doing bad things for a good purpose either . In the first movie his motive is revenge and he kllled countless people that didn't do anything to him to get it and in every movie since then he is just trying to stay alive even by putting his so called " friends " in danger to do so . He hasn't even managed to take down the high table at least so you can justify some of the things he has done in the end . And I don't get why he was trying so hard to stay alive either . The guy has nothing to live for Ever since his wife and dog died
I love how he still have many friends around the world, and basically not alone when Excommunicado happend. I thought Koji from the trailer was his enemy, i'm glad they were a good friend. Reminds me of 47 Ronin where Keanu and Hiroyuki are friend too. Probably they were close in real life.
I also thought the same from the trailer, but when thinking about it he always played the good guy. Just like donny I was like no way he will be the villain or get killed or kill wick.
John Wick is one of the best written masculine characters ever. He is everything a man should aspire to be 1. A man of few words- He does not need to be Andew Tate yappin all the time about his bitches, cars, or how badass he is. All John really needs is to "Be" the badass he always is 2. A man whose reputation Precedes him- Unlike any influencer or "entrepreneur" who always has the need to promote themselves, John is a definition of a Man that needs no introduction. In any room he walks into, the people know who he is, his credentials his accolades 3. A Man of honor who attracts loyalty- I do not think the Bowery King or Winston would risk facing the wrath of the High table if John did not conduct himself with such esteem and honor. He is always respectful to them and their position of power. While not explicitly explained, he must have done important favors for them which is why they are willing to return the favor. She kept Sofia's daughter safe. He protected Winston from the assault when his hotel was de-consecrated. 4. A man who commands respect from his peers- With the exception of Ares and Ms. Perkins, John Consistently enjoyed the respect from his fellow killers. Kirill, Cassian, Caine, the Tracker and most especially Zero, all wanted to kill him but could not deny his respect. If they fight him, they will keep the fight as honorable as possible 5. A man who is feared by his enemies regardless of their statue. You can be the son of the most powerful crime boss, the Marquis, or the Elder. Regardless, who you are, you have a reason to fear crossing John. If he decided he wants your life, he will cross any ocean or dessert to take it. An army, wont even slow him down. Even the walls of the continent will not be safe for you. The rules of the table wont protect you. 6. A man who is all about determination. You can shoot him, stab him, cut him, strangle him, throw him off a roof, run over him, but if somehow he is still alive he will keep coming for his objective. It does not matter if you are an assassin, an athlete, a businessman, or a stem cell scientist. These are all traits a man should aspire to have.
Well said💯 I have also thought always. John would have been a great father too, if Helen lived long enough. Imagine what John would have done just like that Tony Soprano scene where someone harasses his daughter.
@@wifine1951 Then how? At the risk of sounding like an Instagram post friends help friends out without expecting a reward. And friends return the favor without being asked or reminded.
@@wifine1951 ah a person who has never had a loyal friend. I suggesting doing things you don't have to for your friends more consistently in your life.
So I read up on this very thing a couple years back. The best way to understand how John Wick has so many loyal friends is understanding the actual nature of hitmen and the criminal underworld(in the wick universe). It operates almost exclusively based on respect. The gold coins, while they hold some value are more of a sign of respect or exchange of a favor. So when John is seen giving one to a person he really is giving them his respect or reassurance he will have their back in the future. This is further explained in part 2 with the markers. Which is a blood promise for a favor in the future. This shows that the underworld operates almost exclusively based on respect. John is one of, if not the most respected hired gun in the world. So it is no surprise the amount of favors he is owed and people that truly respect him. As said in this video we don’t see his early life, but we get glimpses when he visits the dance school and they show how he was trained and how he climbed the ranks to get to the upper levels of his craft. In a world (underworld) where respect is everything you often see even the adversaries of John Wick have a respect for him and relish in the fact that they get a chance to fight him.
He does his job very satisfactory. Even Sophia, who is very much conflicted about John. I guess she liked how John does his job but hates him because he did it perfectly because she don't know where her daughter is!
The thing that people miss about John is that when he isnt slaughtering hordes of armed goons, he is a deeply caring and compassionate person, and Keanu really helps sell that. It isnt hard to imagine him having a close circle of friends and allies.
Most of the dead were killed while on professional business rather than personal grudges. Viggo tried to kill him to protect his son, Cassian was an eye for an eye for killing his ward, Santino was trying to tie up loose ends. The Adjucator was simply enacting the High Table's will. Even the Marquis didn't hate John Wick the person, he hated John Wick the idea.
@@Eiensakura yea but the Marquis definitely got wrapped up in the idea of being the one to kill John Wick which as we all know ended with "Consequences"
He’s a genuine, honorable, humble and honest man. A principled man who earns the respect of friends and enemies. - Not that difficult to see he makes ride or die friends.
One point: his origin story is vaguely mentioned in his meeting with Anjelica Houston's character (He's Russian ..Georgian? Ukrainian?), an orphan and received his Gladiatorial-type training from her tribe. Also check out how when he was to meet her they made sure to take his belt! The things he does with it are very cool.
For the doctor John had about 10 min before he was Excomunicado. He still had access to all the Continental affiliations before the hour was done. The doctor told him to shoot him because they wouldn’t have believed him that he stopped helping him when the hour was done.
How does John Wick have so many friends? The answer is actually very simple: honour and integrity. The world of underground assassins depicted in John Wick is filled with people who have no real code of ethics and who will happily kill long-time acquaintances for a large enough contract. While this might be seen as an advantage in such a ruthless profession, what it actually does is undermine trust between individuals. Those who realise this are likely to survive the longest, because they develop a rigid code of ethics that entails ruthlessness toward one’s enemies and loyalty toward one’s friends.
I don’t understand how y’all don’t understand how John Wick accumulated so many good friends… He was a man of Honor, His whole story revolves around his love for a dog…simply John Wick is loyal and a killer… Who doesn’t want a friend like that? 😂
I loved Marcus, and was sad when he died, I loved Winston right from the start and am convinced he's made of epic and win, Koji was magnificent, and I did not envy Caine - poor guy. And Charon was just the embodiment of cool. ❤
Simply put John is Keanu if Keanu is a professional assasin But Character wise, John born as Jardani Jovonovich is raised and trained by the Rusko Roma Crime Family, so he is every sense of the word a professional.
John Wick is highly respected in the underworld because of his reputation and professionalism. Even though he's a legend in the assassin world, he still shows respect to the people that he interacts with
His family name - Shimazu - implies as much. The Shimazu clan used to rule over the Satsuma han, which is most famous for the Satsuma Rebellion, which is considered to have been the last stand of the samurai class against the Imperial Army. It is entirely possible that Koji is descended from them.
One line from chapter 4 that’s been living rent free inside my head since I saw it was from Koji. “Loyalty goes beyond markers.” John must have done something serious for Koji to have such a strong sense of loyalty to John, to the point of another assassin believing Koji is acting on a marker.
He's like samurai jack A fierce wandering warrior who's helped people along the way and won a circle of friends who respect him, willing to help out against greater evil Most of these high table pricks will step on others to reach the top but its john who shows that its the friends you make at times
Koji is my favorite n has one of maybe even my favorite line in film cause I relate so much to it "Friendship is easy when it's convenient" such a dope line
The King told you why he’s “loyal” in John Wick 2. John essentially spared his life in the past. It was inferred that Caine-Koji-John all came up together and developed a bond. John had a marker on Sofia. The curious one is Winston. I imagine that one came from years of mutual respect turned admiration
To me it's always been about respect and honor. John may have done worse things then anyone in high table but he clearly has a code against meaningless killing and has helped many. Combined with the favors and its obvious.
I was bewildered between JW was feeling to allow Francis had his health maintain/recovery over losing weight😅 OR whether their conversation (on losing weight) was a hint of how many enemies JW need to do business inside the club.
To quote Ambassador Dantun Tammason, " There is no honor without risk. There is no friendship without sacrifice." It is trlling, to me, that he used these two sentences back to back. I think this can be extended to John Wick's, as yet, untold back story. I think there is mutual risk and sacrifice that has earned John the kind of loyalty he enjoys. From the first movie, the scene with Francis shows this risk and sacrifice has gone both ways in the past. Honor, risk, friendship, sacrifice. I think John Wick's back story has a lot of this in it and results in the kind of support he enjoys despite the threat of doing so.
Why ? The enemy of my enemies are my friends!!! They are all exceptional actors, I respect and love them, but "John Wick" is my favorite who has perfected his professional "activities "like an unbeatable " soldier "in order to save his own life, as in the law of the jungle, "kill or be killed" !
For me, aside from love, care and such, in a lot of cases have to do with Respect. John clearly has a Huge reputation in the underworld, "the Babayaga". I think it's because of respect, some of those people step up to help him. I think it's really difficult to pinpoint Love in an underworld of assasins, so I think Respect suits better.
Something that helps john is his candor. He is very up front about what he wants, needs and plans on doing. He doesn't look to bother anyone, unless it's something that Has to be done. I can imagine John being a good listener and patient with the people he chose to spent his time with, making him unique amongst the ocean of assassins. That can be more than enough to turn someone to his side, when you consider how duplicitous so many people are in the business. In every film we meet at least 1 Anti-John. Ms. Perkins in the first, breaking the rules for a selfish, harmful reason. Ares in the second, disrespectful and mocking little lapdog. Zero in the third, a man obsessed with the legend to a point he couldn't see past the man. 4. Chidi, The Marquis' right hand man, who loved waving his power around throughout the film, looking down on anyone under him. That and he also had no qualms about trying to kill Mr. Nobody's doggo. That's a big no-no.
Good video. I missed a deeper look at the friendship (or even something more) between John Wick and Gianna D'antonio. He fulfills the obligation imposed by the Marker rile against his will. When JW meets the target, she doesn't blame him, she dies on her own terms, she dies with John holding her hand until the end. His hate for Santino grews even more.
the character that you will love, admire and cry because of his desire for freedom and change that was denied by his dark and violent past of his life that tries to bring him back to his old life.but the only way out is to suffer or death...
We see literally the entire criminal world knowing John Wick almost personally yet the series starts with the son of a crime boss and his friends not knowing who he was. Surely one of them would have known.
john wick might have had past missions that were interlinked with other assasins where he ended up sparing their lives hence the respect he might have got from them...
John, despite being one of the, if not the best, killers on the planet... clearly doesn't like taking lives unnecessarily. Scattered throughout the movies are people who he could have ended but decided to give the option of life to.
Despite the fact thatjames Bond is a highly trained assassin and phycopath,he works for the government in missions to save the world, jhon wickworked for an international criminal organization and does missions and kills for his own personal gain, revenge or to duvive, completely different.
Because John is just a good ass dude. He proves it throughout all of the movies. Most characters unse force and money to get people to do what they want. John gets what he wants on his own, or he desperately needs help and his friends are willing to.
Simple. He sees if you have killed or hurt any dogs if you have killed any dogs your trail on life ends if you have hurt or killed dogs on accident he gives a warning but if you haven't killed or hurt any dogs your good in his books
