Running a 4:30 mile by itself is crazy impressive just think about how amazed everyone was when a sub 4 minute mile was broke. This man runs this pace, in a marathon........
@benbowser9339

The difference between 4:30 and 4 minutes doesn’t seem like a lot but it’s an eternity in running. Holding that pace for that long is still unbelievable but 4:30 and 4 arnt that close.

Kipchoge is destroying the notion that runners decline in their late 30s. The guy is getting fitter as he approaches 40. He doesn’t get injured, so consecutive training blocks accumulate.

@alexanderSydneyOz
@alexanderSydneyOz Год назад
"He doesn’t get injured, " Which, whether the world's best or a casual runner (or whatever) is what stops them. Just look at KB. Effectively matched EK 2018 Berlin time, in 2019. But he has since had injuries and, as the poster said, that detracts from the cumulative training. And that's a crucial problem when the elite are training as much as physically possible.

Competition is getting tougher, but I still believe in him. He had 4 of the 5 fastest marathons history. Now, they're down to 3 after Kiptum ran a blistering 2:01:53 today. In fact, he ran the 5k split of 30-35 km in 14 mins flat. It is even more interesting given that it his first marathon. Now, the fastest debut in marathon history. For sure, 2024 Olympics will not be easy with the emergence of the new big talents. The edge of Kipchoge is that he can handle any pace.

I’d like to see how the elite Kenyan runners would perform in a marathon like the Pikes Peak marathon or even an ultramarathon like Western States or Leadville. My guess is they could dominate if they trained for it but they don’t care to compete in these types of races because the money is in major marathon races like NYC, Boston, London, etc. They go where the money is and it makes perfect sense considering their socio-economic background. Anyone else ever wonder how elite Kenyans would perform in ultras.
