I, in my incredibly small knowlegde of Harry Potter, like to think that the reason the cruciatus curse doens't work on Harry, whilst he is lying "dead" is because Voldemort is convinced he is dead, and therefore doesn't believe it will work.

Back to add my own theory: Crouch Jr isn't just doing it for his own enjoyment, but to sort of get back at his father. He was kept under the Imperius Curse for years. Maybe after that long, even if he's evil, he doesn't think people should be forced to another's will, and is actually training them to fight it off. Remember, he puts Harry under multiple times just to see him do it more. And I doubt it's to try again. He knows that the more you get put under, the easier it gets to shake it off.

Technically he was a great teacher... if someone is going to try and invade your thoughts... they arnt going to warn you about it.... there is even practice he can do and he just says screw it.... cause half of him wants to see what voldemort is thinking... i mean voldemort doesn't even have to say the spell he can just look at people and tell.... so snape was doing harry a favor. And with how important it was you think Dumbledore would have tried to teach harry it himself but no he picked snape... cause dudes been lying to voldy for decades
@wolfishpotato6978
@wolfishpotato6978 8 месяцев назад
@@neemz0117There's logic to this, but I disagree because there are still much better ways to teach Harry. What Snape does in this is akin to teaching someone to swim by dropping them off the side of a boat in the middle of the ocean, instead of starting in the shallow end of a pool. Or trying to teach someone math by giving them a college level Calculus 3 test, instead of just starting with addition and subtraction. You're absolutely right that Harry wouldn't be getting any warning from Voldemort, but that doesn't mean that when _teaching_ someone how to do a thing, you should start by giving them the hardest lesson and discouraging them every step of the way.

I think it's fitting Dumbledore was drawn to the two wizards who questioned the consequences, weighed the outcomes, but still chose to do what they knew was right. As if Dumbledore, in his age and wisdom, was drawn to them because they did what he could not. His sister's death weighed on him, but I believe that by watching Newt and Harry, Dumbledore believed he was atoning for his past by cultivating a new generation who would not fail to do what was right, no matter the cost. To do what he never did.

I actually think he was playing his role, after all, no one, not even Dumbledore, knew he wasn’t the real Moody. So playing the role meant doing whatever moody would do, and moody probably had prepared a course schedule soon after the end of Harry’s 3rd year (which is a good guess for when Dumbledore would’ve sought him out after Remus quit due to Snape) and planning a schedule and course work for 7 different classes would take a lot of time to make. So moody probably had most or all of it prepped before he got jumped, and Barty Jr. used it as is, filled in the blanks, or tortured/imperious’d moody into finishing it.

Totally agree! In fact, it's so ingrained in him that he even does it unconsciously. When Petunia cut his hair short to get rid of it sticking up, Harry grew it back without knowing how it happened. When Dudley pushes Harry out of the way at the zoo, Harry responds to it by making the glass disappear without even knowing how he did it. He was resisting their control even then.

Resisting the imperious curse is a taught skill, I mean that’s why they’re having a lesson on it. Many other DA members get it to some degree with later practice. So while it’s impressive he takes to it so well it’s not impossible, he’s just rly good at defense.
@incorrectdigit
@incorrectdigit 3 года назад
This is maybe a more depressing take, but personally I've always felt Harry resisted the imperius curse so easily is the method theimperius curse uses to compel obedience, it's basically happiness/bliss/pleassure, something Harry's been denied pretty much his whole life. And by the end of the series, I truly think Harry just mistrusts being happy, after his first year of hogwarts he is instantly afraid his friends hate him after Dobby takes all the letters, year two has everyone in the class turn on him, year 3 he gets lied to by fudge, every time Harry has really opened and let himself be happy, it comes crashing down, thought he had a home away from the Dursley's in book 3, and that was ripped from him too. So the imperius curse just being..a carefree feeling makes Harry question it, and the second he's aware enough to question, realizes he doesn't want to do it. Edit: The main reason I feel this more than just the 'strength of character' argument, is because as Ben even points out later in this video, a lot of the main cast share a lot of the same traits as Harry, but most, sans perhaps Neville, at least are way more comfortable being happy. And even Neville, despite how rough his grandmother can be around the edges, I feel still felt loved by his family, still got gifts, like f rom his uncle algae, and perhaps that helps him also lean into it.

1. Harry’s mothers sacrifice for protection. 2. Only that which destroys an object beyond most magical repair, can destroy a Horcrux. The sword wasn't required for Nagini. Death is still death. You cannot magically repair from death. They just happened to have the sword. Dumbledore say's it's a bad idea to choose a living thing. Because it operates on its own. If it was virtually indestructible, it wouldn't matter. Also if being a Horcrux made a person immortal. Why didn't Voldemort just force 20 death eaters to use him as a Horcrux. Instead of splitting his own soul. It makes no sense. Also the cast tried dozens of things. To destroy the locket and it was completely undamaged. Harry was almost near death every book. Doubt a bludger can damage any other horcrux.

I agree, mostly. A child that had been abused and/or neglected as much as Harry would see anything that seems perfectly trustworthy as a trap. He would view everyone and everything with suspicion. His friends had to earn his trust. Rom did this by not asking for anything and (Ron being Ron) giving indications that he (Ron) didn't fully trust Harry either. Everyone that tried to push friendship on Harry (like Draco) was immediately rejected by Harry. His past has taught him that overt kindness is just the calm before the storm. While Harry is a fictional character, his mindset is all to real form many people and usually because they have endured the same type of early life as our fictitious friend.

My friend and I had this discussion about him once. We both agreed that his innate stubbornness, and the fact that he was a born fighter, and well knew what manipulation looked like. But I think there is another element to it. Half of fighting against something is just knowing that you can fight it. Almost all the other students lived in the wizarding world. They knew and feared that curse. A teacher saying that you can fight it would, probably, not do much to really make them believe that you can. Especially when they see their classmates easily controlled. Harry had no ingrained conceptions. He took the teacher at face value when he was told it can be resisted, and then his considerable fighting spirit and stubbornness came into play. Also, it probably helped that he knew the attack was coming. I imagine the Imperius Curse is harder to resist, if you are taken by surprise. And that experience in knowing what it felt like, and having some experience in fighting it, gave him an edge in resisting Voldemort.

This explanation is way happier than the one I've been using in my head since I read the books. The books say that Harry experiences a bliss sensation, which he immediately rejects thinking that "No of course this can't be right". I always thought he could resist the Imperius Curse because he is not used to happiness or safety, and believes that if he feels that way, something is wrong, and therefore he becomes on edge. It was my opinion that the little voice was Harry's thoughts, being smothered by the curse, saying "Hey, this isn't right. Safety is an illusion, don't trust whoever is telling you that you're safe". So I just realised something (20 years later but whatever): This lesson is a perfect opportunity for Crouch Jr to try to put Harry under his command with the imperius curse. Dumbledore trust him completly and allow him to use a forbidden curse on all his students, including Harry. We know that someone can be kept under the imperius curse for month, even years without anyone notice it. So having Harry under the imperius curse would have secure his victory and Voldemort's plan : Harry wouldn't have tried to save more than 1 person from the mermaids because Crouch wouldn't allow him to. In the maze, harry wouldn't have tried to save the others either and certainly wouldn't allow Diggory to come with him. So Maugrey aka Crouch forced harry to try the imperius curse again and again and again (Harry is complety sore after this) not to train him but to try to get the best of him.

Next theory: is it possible 2 Voldemorts could have been resurrected? Because it seemed like the diary voldamort was pretty independent of Voldemort prime. The character & personality felt different. What if the orignal "ghost" version we see is resurrected & also the part of his soul living in the book also steals a students life. Would the universe now have 2 voldamorts living with a single split soul?
@pyronixcore
@pyronixcore Год назад
If you follow the half and half division theory of the horcruxes (first horcrux takes half the soul, second horcrux takes half of the remaining half, 1/4, etc), you could assume that the Book Horcrux is _more_ Voldemort than the remaining living embodied Voldie at the Battle of Hogwarts.

I love your reasoning! I also would like to add how Harry, throughout his entire time in and out of Hogwarts,has zero problems saying "Professor" McGonagall, "Professor" Dumbledore, "Professor" Sprout, etc! But the potions master was just "Snape". Deep down Harry knew Severus had something about him that was too questioning!! That might have been why his Occlumency lessons didn't go well...😏🤔

Dumbledore made this monologue to Harry: "...... Difficult times lay ahead. Everyone will have to make a choice between 'What is RIGHT.......and What is EASY !?!'". What if there is something to the “voldy soul piece” theory? What if the imperious curse has a weaker hold on Harry because of the two souls inside of him, like the curse’s power is divided between the two souls, so Harry’s natural defiance is powerful enough to break through the Imperius curse?

I recall hearing that the imperious curse works by creating a sense of bliss in the individual with regards to obeying orders. Given his upbringing he typically experienced a lot of discomfort in obeying instructions. Like cooking breakfast for the dursleys , etc. I think this factored in to his ability to resist the imperious curse, and maybe even his character. The closest feeling of bliss we ever see harry experience is when he is looking at the mirror of erised . And then riding buckbeak.

This is definitely the reading I took away from the scene. Harry's life is a constant struggle. I think it was still his mother's love that protected Harry when Voldemort killed him in the forest. Notice JUST BEFORE Harry meets Voldy, he sees the people he loves most in their spirit form....his mother and father, Remus and Sirius. He says "I am ready to die" and he kisses the Snitch that secretly holds the Resurrection Stone. The stone emerges from the Snitch with the Deathly Hallows symbol engraved on it...and his parents and Remus and Sirius come forth from it. His mother is the first one he sees....the first one he reaches for....and when he asks why they are there, she tells him they never left him. When Harry asks if they will stay with him, his father reassures him that they will...and his mother says "always". I think their love for Harry is what protected him from Voldemort and the curses. And it is another mother's love...Narcissa Malfoy's...that also saved Harry. When Voldy asked if Harry was truly dead, she checks him and EVEN KNOWING that Harry still lives, she lies to Voldemort and tells him that Harry died.

With regards to the Elder Wand, the way I see it the Elder Wand acknowledges that Harry took Draco’s wand but didn’t fully acknowledge Harry until he sacrificed himself for everyone else and became the master of death. This way it works out from a logical perspective and also works with the in-universe explanation
@m.o.l.a6812
@m.o.l.a6812 2 года назад
Good theory though the Elder's Wand is still a wand, if you disarm the wizard that wand belongs to you. He passed from Dumbledore to Draco to Voldermort (forced because he thought it was Snape who had to kill instead of Draco) to Harry. In the end it did belong to Harry because it disarmed Draco. To be a master of death, you must do what the third brother did. "When you die, you receive death as an old friend." Harry became the master of death, when he accepted that he had to die to save the wizarding world and voluntarily went to the forest for Voldermort to kill him, he accepted death with open arms.

The reason the curse "Cruico" doesn't work on Harry the second time is because Voldemort believed he was dead and in order for it to work Voldemort has to believe he is alive. Or something like that.
@Zannablu12
@Zannablu12 9 месяцев назад
There’s one thing you didn’t think about: the piece of Voldemort soul is a “presence” on its own, when the curse hits Harry, it’s probably “”confused”” on who it’s supposed to control. Even if the soul doesn’t impact Harry in his daily life and there isn’t that strong of a bond, it still is a “piece of mind” inside of him. So the curse’s effect may be dispersed and the voice arguing against it might actually be Voldemort’s soul

This would actually fit for one other character in the series, Luna. While Neville and Ginny both helped her to lead the reformed DA, Luna is in a unique position to the other two. She's an outsider who's father ran one of the few papers that supported Harry during the first parts of the second Wizarding war. She's outspoken and flamboyant to the point that she had a lion head hat to support her friends in Gryffindor. She's someone that Harry never had an issue being around at all times. Which is saying something compared to Ron who goes through plenty of friction with Harry throughout the years or Hermione who strains against him while on the run.

I think Moody/Crouch used the imperius curse on his students to help them fight it so they would never have to live under it like he had to with his father. I believe, even though he is a death eater and a bad person, he doesn’t want anyone suffer through that. He was only around 21/22 when his father used the curse on him and he had to live under it for 13 years. It was a very traumatic experience for him and he wants to protect his students from this.

I'd like to fuse this with another theory, that the Hallows Brothers made the Unforgivable Curses, and Harry gets to resist it BECAUSE he's descended from the creator. I mean, surely you'd have a backdoor to prevent being entranced by your hypnotic spell.
@BioHunter1990
@BioHunter1990 Год назад
I think it’s the existence of the soul fragment that sort confuses the curse. Which explains why Riddle also struggles. Effectively he’s cursing part of himself too and it makes it less effective. This doesn’t require any active action by the fragment or any skills. That’s not to say Harry’s very strong willpower isn’t a factor…but not alone.
