Though Scrimgeour claims he had no right to do so and that the sword belonged to the public/Hogwarts - of course possible explenations are general unawareness of the lineage or the fact that Harry, in turn, is not related to Dumbledore causing the sword as an important historical artifact only then in absence of a natural heir to revert to/be claimed by the state (though in that case it would have been easier for Dumbledore to bequeath the sword to Aberforth for safe keeping?); or Scrimgeour lying for whatever reason. And anyway, putting it on the will when it might have been obvious in no way would the ministry allow it to pass to Harry and with the sword having vanished at that point already (plannedly?) it was more of a shoutout to Harry that the sword is a crucial part of his quest, whether Dumbledore was a Gryffindor by blood or not.

Could McGonagall be an heir of Ravenclaw? (Quick refresher: Helena is Rowena Ravenclaw's only known child. She moved to Scotland after fleeing Hogwarts with the diadem only to be hunted and killed years later by the baron who was sent to retrieve her. He got mad when she didn't want to marry him, he kills her, and then guilty, so he kills himself) It takes a couple leaps but as y'all said, Rowena's family history is kinda missing. I don't think this is because Helena didn't have kids but that she would keep her life private and because she died before anyone knew. She hid the Diadem while she was alive, in an Albanian forest and I doubt that was because she didn't know a way to defend things magically or have an heir to pass it to. I suspect this is because Helena knew she would be hunted and that magic would only make finding her/it easier. On top of that, any heirs she left would have little chance with a target that big. (Sidebar: If Helena wasn't a ghost, the diadem would likely never be found. Also, Tom Riddle hiding it in the room of hidden things because he thought he was the only one clever enough to have found it is wildly dumb. Who hid all the other things Tom???? Terrible wedding planner) The first big issue is that McGonagall isn't a Ravenclaw but I think this actually helps her. McGonagall is one of the two true Hatstalls we know of and both of them were because the person's value structure was different than their ambitions. (Pettigrew valued courage but was more cunning and McGonagall believed in bravery and conviction but was brilliant beyond her years) I think this wasn't only because she is so wise but because she is the Ravenclaw heir. Ambitious Slytherins are only made stronger by the rivals they form. A Hufflepuff's loyalty only grows when their friends remain true. Ravenclaw's questions are answered when surrounded by scholars. And a Gryffindor's bravery is forged when they rally together. If you're right about Kowolski, I think he would have been a Hatstall too. The hat has two usually parallel priorities when sorting. It puts you where you'll strive and where your values are reflected. McGonagall might have been equally as strong if she had more scholars at her side but I think the hat eventually realized McGonagall would be driven further with people to protect and a cause to rally behind. (To our knowledge Hatstalls have a lot to do with the wishes of the person being sorted. Hermione, Neville, and Harry are the three longest sortings I can think of and we know that the decision was largely to do with their desired house. As far as why I think they're blood-related, largely because of her intelligence but also because what little we know little about the McGonagall family tree lines up perfectly with the Ravenclaw tree. We only know that one side of the McGonagall family is likely pure-blooded, the other side is muggles and both sides are Scottish. Helena ran from Hogwarts with the Diadem and hid in Scotland for presumably years if not decades. She ran to Scotland while still in school but in most depictions, she is at the youngest in her twenties, when she became the Grey Lady. That leaves enough of a gap to start a family. (Likely with a muggle. Not because we know Rowena's position on muggles but just if she did that would be most likely) When she is murdered by the baron, all chances of that family being on any wizard records are dashed. Now the only big gap I have is which side is the Ravenclaw side and there's a problem. I don't know. Both are plausible. A powerful witch mom dying at the start of the 11th century with one of the biggest family names in existence. I wouldn't be deeply shocked if her line were powerful and eventually became blood purists who have no one to point to at one of the most crucial times for blood purists. They likely didn't know who that line came from. On the other hand, Helena likely married a muggle man and in a time in her life where she would likely avoid magic. It wouldn't be terribly shocking if their line either didn't realize they were magic for most of it or had some generations of squibs. Almost certainly some would be magical but we don't really know when Hogwarts letters were sent to children by sensing magic potential. Along with that, this potential assumes the Ravenclaw line is in many ways accepting. An Obscurus wouldn't really be an issue. (One last problem: Why didn't Helena ever say she had a kid as a ghost? I don't know but she also didn't tell people about the Horcrux but she knew about it and who Tom Riddle was. Also, the lore surrounding ghosts is weird. [I wouldn't be upset if you think Luna is the heir. I just think this lines up better personally. [Sorry for how long this is. I don't really care too deeply if this gets likes but they make it more likely the SuperCarlinBrothers will see this. If you want to hear their thoughts make it more likely.

Known only by a few, but despite Griffyndor's openmindedness for muggleborn wizards, they were pretty selective and rather elitist when it came to who they arrange marrigies with. It must've always been a dor/dore/door. That's how the young heir, Lady Gryffindor joined the Dumbledore family.
@outregis
@outregis Год назад
@@iambadatnamingthings3547 You do realize that after last names became commonplace, it was a part of status for their bloodline to continue? What is more, it's not like they had tests that easily proved their lineage, it was almost entirely in the last name. What is more, since the man always carried it, and the wife bore it to symbolize a conjoining of families, it wasn't just done because "Men are Superior". So finally, it is through bravery, because majority of the world would look at this as neither passing down lineage, nor symbolizing the conjoining of families (as in the typical ritual, I understand that mixing the name makes sense as a mixing of the families literally, but that isn't how it was seen traditionally.) My final point is that we are talking about Wizarding families. To the purebloods it makes absolute sense that they wouldn't want the name lost, and we are talking about the potential descendants of Godric who was all for the freedom of magic to anyone that had shown a connection to it, which could be why they so willingly combined the names. All I'm saying is you can pull this notion of "Women Opression" as if she was really undignified by having to ask, but for someone of that time period that would be such a foreign ideal. It just wouldn't make sense.

@karabelle617
@karabelle617 3 года назад
@@colinvandenberg3446 I find that it takes away the theme of Bloodlines not mattering. Our Hero wasn't someone with an unknown bloodline, like Neville or someone without one like hermione (who is often quoted as the reason they don't matter). Our hero is the sole known heir to the peveral brothers, and therefore the sole known heir to the deathly hallows. But even more recently from a timeline perspective, his money comes from one of his ancesters who made a potion and became rich. The only reason harry never wants for money unlike Ron is because of his bloodline. additionally it's heavily implied that Voldemort made harry his equal partially because harry was half-blood. One could say "well he still became an amazing person and that's the point" but I think its a cop out that harry is at an advantage in half the story over Voldemort. The same Voldemort who was effectively disowned by his family due to his no-mag father. Whose bloodline was full of inbreeding and other issues to the point that it just fell apart. The same Voldemort who had nothing, came from nothing. Voldemort had a sucky bloodline, and he was sucky. Harry had a very different story, which a family who cared and loved for him, even if they died early. Which one of these people turned out "good?" And which one of these turned out "bad"?. Who had a lineup of adults who loved their parents and ready to help them? And who had none of that? I'm not saying the intention wasn't to focus on choices mattering more than blood. But akin to how The Creator "Accidently" made a pro slavery joke in the form of the house elves' and Hermione's attempts to free them, once you look at it beyond what is told to you... there is some iffiness.
@colinvandenberg3446
@colinvandenberg3446 3 года назад
@@karabelle617 Yes, characters put a lot of stock in bloodlines, and the fact that Harry is a half-blood is important to his character. My point is that as strong as the theme of bloodlines is in the books is equally prescient the theme that choices define the characters more than their lineage. James Poter had the same kind of exceptional lineage as Marvolo Gaunt, but he and his family judged people by their actions instead of their blood status. It's no accident James lived in a mansion while the Gaunts lived in a shack. There's also the Malfoys and Weasleys, who were both pure-blood families but while one household was held together by love the other was governed by hate.

I don’t believe animagi can take the form of magical creatures. That said, I really like this idea. I would argue that instead, Godric transfigured himself into a phoenix. It is incredibly dangerous for a witch/wizard to transfigure themself into an animal form. This is because when they do so, their mind also takes on the properties of that animal. So if Godric were to transfigure himself into a phoenix, he would have the brain of a phoenix and it would be irreversible. My head-canon is that he was probably close to death and transfigured himself as a final act, and as a phoenix he was immortal. Also, if the theory that Dumbledore is a Gryffindor is true (which I feel that it is) then the idea that Fawks is Godric adds a whole new layer to the “a phoenix will always come to a Dumbledore in need” thing. If Fawks is Godric, and the Dumbledore are just descendants of Gryffindor, than the phoenix that comes to Dumbledores is just Godric helping his heirs in phoenix form.

We, as a community, need to Tweet towards J.K.Rowling that she should allow the Copyright for Harry Potter to be losened a bit. Cause we need some Sort of Reboot, as almost all books are Lost in Adaptation. The movies just do not represent the franchise right; evidend by Dobby alone. If you know what i mean... And even if we wouldnt need a reboot, the creativity of the fans is still limited too much, if you get what i mean! Like it is, no one can give us what we need and/or want: A lot people want a Series about the 4 Founders! A lot understand how lost in Adaptation all the books are and want all the Movies remade, maybe as a Cartoon, maybe not. And lastly, a lot of people love the idea of a ‚All generation at once’-Cartoon, as the AMV above shows. Isnt it epic? These 3 things should ALL come to fruition, in my opinion. Not to mention at least 1!! Currently, the franchise is limited too much... Fans should be allowed to make Animations about Hogwarts and all ist generations and Magical secrets. ...If you agree the creativity is restrained too harshly, tweet to Rowling! And also discuss! And yeah, i know Rowling gets Tweets about a whole other subject nowadays, but lets get away from that for a second, to help the Harry Potter Franchise, ok?!

@DeeSnow97
@DeeSnow97 3 года назад
It's a weapon though, and weapons tend to have features to prevent people from using them. Slytherin's wand is a great example of that. Its allegiance was with the bloodline, and it even had a specific spell/password that disabled it completely, which ended up rendering it permanently useless after Gormlaith Gaunt used it and died without passing on the secret. That wand has been buried in Ilvermorny's garden, dying with that branch of the Slytherin bloodline, further proving that the relics of the Founders stay in their respective families.
@slightlyembittered
@slightlyembittered 3 года назад
@@DeeSnow97 But we already know "the Wand chooses the Wizard", so we already know that wands have some intelligence of their own. However, the sword is not a wand, thus we can't expect it to act like a wand. Plus, we don't have any examples of relics like Hufflepuff's cup, Slytherin's locket, or Ravenclaw's Diadem being able to think for themselves. Lastly, we know that the sword was owned by people other than Gryphondor. i.e. Goblins.
@cliffritch7304
@cliffritch7304 3 года назад
I would say that with magic involved, there's another possibility that would be almost both. The sword takes on that which makes it stronger. So, maybe anyone can use the sword as a standard sword, but only a true gryffindor or master of the sword (whichever you would like to say) can bring out those aspects, and have it be a strong weapon. Like with the elder wand, working for Voldemort, but not working extremely well. The other thing is that there is clear evidence the sword has a level of the intelligence that wands do. Otherwise, how would it appear to true gryffindors in need?

Actually, everyone in the European Harry Potter universe is a direct descendant of Gryffindor - in fact ANY EUROPEAN is of direct descent of another European who lived 1000 years or more before now. Let me explain: On a basic family tree, as you go up, you multiply each side by 2 - 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, so on. As you keep on going back the number will continue to grow exponentially, until after less than 30 generations, you get to an unreasonably huge number, far more than the population at the time. This means two things; many people are on the same family tree more than once, and there are in general many people in the tree. Additionally, a 2013 genetic survey conducted with 2000 individuals spread from Ireland to Turkey found that each and every single person tested of whom DNA they'd tested could be traced back to the same common ancestors who lived 1000 years ago. There are a bunch of other mathematical concepts that I don't understand which prove the same thing, but at the end of the day, it's safe to say that there is a direct ancestral relation between pretty much everyone in the European Harry Potter universe, considering they are all from the same cultural background.

Well that is at least for lines that never died out entirely but to be fair for a line to die out it usually has to do so fairly quickly for the same reason. Because there are a growing number of people involved with each generation the chance of them all dying childless drops. It is less likely that a single individual survives and has children than it is that at least one of their children do which is still less than any one of their children surviving etc. In general a lot more people have to die for a bloodline to go extinct the more time that passes.

Ok, but can we talk about how there was a major missed opportunity for Draco to have some serious Zuko-like character development? Can’t you imagine him helping them because he was on the inside, and knows things? Harry could also have gotten character development out of it in learning to forgive and let go of his hatred of Draco, because we all know he had a serious fixation on Draco for a while.

Since Fawkes went to Harry, does that mean that he's a true Dumbledore?
@DuchessofSassytown
@DuchessofSassytown 3 года назад
I think that's definitely up for debate, considering that Fawkes is Dumbledore's constant phoenix. It's hard to say the level of control or lack thereof the Dumbledores have over their phoenix companions. Dumbledore was also technically in need because of his suspension as headmaster by the school's board of governors. By assisting Harry and preventing the deaths of more students, Fawkes ensured that Dumbledore could return to Hogwarts and continue his life's work. Additionally, Fawkes knew of Dumbledore's investment in and particular regard towards Harry. I guess it depends on how aware you believe phoenixes are. I imagine they're very wise beyond most creatures (even in the Wizarding world), or you could say that Dumbledore simply ordered Fawkes to help Harry should he ever be absent. Then I imagine Fawkes' magical protective instincts then transferred to Harry. I like to think that a phoenix has wisdom beyond other creatures and has greater perception rather than just acting on the order of its wizard. That seems a little too owl-like for a fantastic beast with the majesty of a phoenix.

Especially in your video if you say Salazar is the basilisk and Fawkes fights it.come to think of it, harry could be a descendant as well, as Fawkes comes to his aid.... I think the phoenix metaphors are more literal. I think Albus Dumbledore is a literal reincarnation of Gryffondor. He probably doesnt know it and it probably has nothing to do with the Dumbledore family tree. Gryffondor has no heirs because he himself is born again whenever he dies. Maybe part of the magic used makes him sterile and cant retaining old memories, but will undeniably always be the same person
