Dr you are exactly right on that last part, I’m a big foodie, I’m 46 years old and never have been an obese person, just overweight, any diet I tried never worked longer than couple months then I’d go back to eating whatever I wanted, but after finding out I have pckd stage 4 and dr sent me to davita clinic and they taught me what to eat and what to avoid, that was the day I made a decision for myself and my family to eat healthy. I lost 40 pounds in last 8 months. I no longer have cravings for fast food, junk food etc. I just have changed and I just think of all the chemicals and preservatives and sodium levels and how horrible I’ll feel if I eat that and it turns me off. I want what’s best for me and my health. I wish my nephrologist would have been more concerned about my diet when I came to him at stage 2 in my 30s. I may have prolonged my kidneys health a few years. Thank you for the great info on sugars!

Love your videos. I have stage 2 kidney disease and everything you are saying in absolutely correct. My left kidney stopped functioning completely three years ago. When you know your health is in danger you do anything to change your lifestyle. Its so hard but i had to so i wouldn't end up on stage 3 kidney disease. I do not miss sugar and meat. I am a vegetarian and so happy in a way this health issue came about or i would not have changed my lifestyle. I have lost so so much weight and my BMI is 19.9 . I walk at least an hour or two per day and drink 2 to 3 liters of water per day. I have found myself and I have more confidence in myself that I have never had before in my whole entire life. I have found my Inner Peace and couldn't be happier no matter what struggles I'll face in the rest of my life , I will keep doing what I'm doing and have faith that i will live longer . LIFE IS WHAT U MAKE OF IT! There's a saying "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! If you don't look after yourself no one else will. You and Michelle are the best!!!!

Love the content and the delivery. Thank you Dr. Hashmi and Michele Crosmer. To reduce the sugar/calorie content, after I cook the beans or oat groats, I rinse them, amazing how this simple act reduces my sugar spike and has led to easy moderate weight loss.

Outstanding stuff Dr. Hashmi and Michelle! Just returned from Italy..I'm stage 2 CKD. Stayed at 6 diff b&bs /hotels "ALL serve tons and tons of sugary breakfasts each morning." I HATED those breakfasts...not used to sugar anymore. I'm not sure why half of Italy doesn't have diabetes though. Maybe the good as to my stable CKD is from watching you both. I HATED those pastry breakfasts, sugary cereals,...and I'm hoping the fact we had to walk what seemed like maybe 4-5 miles a day helped in burning a lot of those poor choice foods off, that I had no other choice but to eat. As to life's why/what? yes I'm a bit of a stevia guy. I put a micro drop in coffee...and I have one tiny sugarless chocolate bar every day as a treat? Or a death wish...choc-zero-made with monk fruit! However I think you also have to ENJOY your life though as to SOME food within reason! I do walk about 2 miles a day. EVERY day, .and my GFR has improved 3 tests in a row since watching you both...Anyway thanks for what you do...Go to Italy JUST try to have NO pizza, gelato, pasta...I tried!! haha I could only limit it...hope I didn't damage my health..hope all that waking helped to offset, even lost 4 pounds eating SOME bad stuff. Back home, back to a much more strict diet...Thanks again.

I agree, same in Paris, I think they walk so much, it counteracts the negatives in their diets somewhat?

I disagree with the cocaine to heroin analogy as applied to stevia and monk fruit. They are generally well tolerated and a great source for diabetics to still enjoy a little sweetness in their foods.

Was in Limburg Germany a month ago, and ran into a research scientist from GWU. He was there for a lecture on the "sugars", he told me that it's a big research subject. His opinion is that "sugars" have a BIG effect on metabolic mechanism both bad and good. So this is a big research subject.

I haven't eaten sugar since 2007, but my uric acid was nearly 11.6 before going on Allopurinol. (And, yes, I had gout and uric acid stones.)

How does sugar make your urine more acidic? Does some of it converted to an organic acid other than uric? Thanks.

Hello friends. It is unclear to me how Monk fruit or Stevia affects kidney function. From the NIH: "The consumption of calorie-free beverages sweetened with artificial and natural NNS have minimal influences on total daily energy intake, postprandial glucose and insulin" This video seems a bit biased. The comparison with hard drugs unnecessary and confusing. Peace to all.

I agree. Not aware of any research that states artificial sweeteners cause insulin resistance or promote over eating. There are randomised control trials suggesting they are effective for weight loss even when compared with water

will drinking lots of water wash down all the excess sugars eaten?
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth 10 месяцев назад
It will not. Drinking enough water daily in general helps the body to perform it's usual functions, especially the kidneys eliminating waste. Exercising after consuming sugar or a high simple carbohydrate meal can help lower blood sugar sugar levels though.

So just use regular raw sugar in moderation? Or?
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth 5 месяцев назад
Whatever sugar source someone is using to sweeten, we recommend limiting intake of it. 1 teaspoon of sugar, honey, or maple syrup is 4 g sugar. If you can keep it at only 4 g added sugar or less per serving that is ideal.

Stevia is like putting Parsley on to flavor your tomatoes .Monk fruit is no good ?

We have an episode coming out soon on non nutritive sweeteners and kidney health! Monk can be a more "natural" non nutritive sweetener (compared to aspartame and sucralose). We still recommend limiting added sugar and non nutritive sweeteners overall in the diet. But usually not a problem to use here and there!

Why are we looking to demonize sugar? It seems that we are always looking for a boogie man. The body is a complex and wholistic entity. Everything is about context and quantity as well. Too much of anything will kill you. Even water.
