The number one question I get asked by my friends and family is How does the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus drive in the snow? I think after watching this video you will be surprised. This video includes winter and snow driving in a parking lot and city driving. Also, I do not have any snow or winter tires on the car. I am driving with the stock all season tires that came with the car.

Great video , thanks very much, considering a standard plus but we can get bad snow where I am in the UK, but looking at your video, nowhere near as bad as Michigan so given me some confidence!

always good to see another Michigan Tesla video in the snow ❄️ ⛄️ , I still have a few more months until I get my SR+, can’t wait! Do you change any settings for driving in the snow (like chill mode, regen braking to low) ?

I tried both, AWD you will feel that road grip most of the time in winter. If it’s less only 5000 dollars difference I would buy awd. In Norway it was 10000 usd difference.

Thank you for your insight. I'm in VA and we have light to moderate snows each winter. I'm going to be purchasing a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus later in November or December, hopefully the 2021 version. My last two vehicles were FWD and they handled excellently. The last time I drove a RWD vehicle was in the mid 90's, so I wanted to address those concerns.

@@SHABZILLA That's great news! Yeah I really like the black interior and I'll go with the midnight silver metallic exterior and the 18" Aero wheels. I saw something recently about being able to upgrade your wheel types within the Tesla app as well.

Knowledgeability you can change the wheel configuration now! That’s an awesome color combo. I’ll be honest I like the 18 inch wheel style more than the 19/20. But only with the aero caps off. I’m excited for you! Make sure you let me know when you get yours!

This is always something that has me, I live in missouri and it's literally the wild west of weather and have debated an SR+ for the savings but also been checking for used AWDs. I'm hoping with the launch of model y next month that there will be more used model 3s showing up

Most likely there will be more Model 3s for sale but they do have good resale value. I think a SR+ totally worth the savings if the range works out for you.

I've been looking at used ones as well and they cost more or very close to the price of a new one. I'm not paying only $2 or $3k less for a car with 25k miles on it and it's 2 or 3 model years older.

Excellent video. I am considering upgrading from a used 2015 Nissan Leaf to a used Standard Range Plus Tesla Modle 3. I live in Medford Oregon where it hardly ever snows.

Same deal as you, but Oregon coast is a bit more hilly and definitely snows. I feel like there's maybe good odds on standard being alright (especially with snow tires) but I'm really curious how to does with hills/ice. Did you get the Tesla? If so, how's it been? I know it's going to be a huge upgrade from this '15 Leaf S whenever I do manage affording one. (Mine's only got about 50k miles so it's still full 12/12 on battery life, but 30-60 mile range is rough.)

Winter tires are definitely worth it, the car changes completely. With that much snow and ice winter tires make a huge difference!

I'm debating on the awd vs rwd right now. There's about a $6k difference not to mention I'll get it quicker. The awd is out to June and the rwd I can get next month. I live in Ohio at the moment but I'm going to be moving to North Carolina here soon so I honestly think the rwd will be fine for me. One last thing, in your vid you demonstrated on mostly snow covered roads. We just got a winter storm over the last two days and we got sleet and ice rain then snow on top of that. The roads were covered in a thick icy slush... wonder how it'd do on that.

Thanks for watching! I went with the cheaper option myself and I still haven’t had any issues driving rwd. I still don’t have snow tires and am still using the stock tires. If you can afford the awd, I would say go for it because you get extra range, performance, and awd but I personally don’t think it’s needed. You could always get a set of winter tires too. Whatever you decide on, you’ll be in good hands!

The advantage of all that weight on the car. It's low centre of gravity. So winter tires will give you even more grip.

How about breaking distance? If you had to jam on the breaks last min to avoid an accident will wheels lock up? This is a greater concern for me.

You should be good. Just make sure you have good tires. Tires play a big part in winter driving.

If you have a steep driveway or live in a hilly area, I would recommend getting snow tires for sure or even go with the dual motor. On the stock tires you may struggle a bit!

If there’s snow on the ground and it can’t see the lanes then no. If it’s snowing and not sticking on the road, it will still work. Basically, if it can see the lanes, it will work. Thanks for watching!

I agree 100%! The Model 3 with 18 Aeros comes with All Season tires so they are really good but Adding winter tires would make it a beast! If I had to drive everyday in the snow, I would buy them 100%.

We haven’t had a snow fall like that in a while but if you live in an area that gets a foot of snow regularly, I would highly recommend going with the dual motor AWD version. If not, the SR+ will get you though 90-95% of snowfalls. Thanks for watching!

important advice to you. you shouldn't drive With summer tires in Winter Snowy weather it's a stupid and dangerious thing to do. change tires to Winter tires in Winter when it is snowing and is slippery.
