Very mediocre stats, okay movepool, no way this is gonna be good, right? Want more solo runs but in Yellow? I stream afternoons at twitch.tv/Jrose11 Edited by: SimplyAJ ( / simplyaj )
If you're wondering why the Pikachu went first with the X Speed, it's because of how (or, more to the point, when) the AI decides whether to use an item. The AI will always choose a move for its Pokémon. At this point, the AI's action for the turn gets the priority level of the move it chose. Before performing the move, if the AI is of a class that can perform special actions (switching or using an item, or in Agatha's case both) the AI calls the RNG to determine whether it will replace its move for the turn with the appropriate special action; the priority level of the action will not be changed by this. This means that, in most cases, the AI doing a special action will have the same priority as a standard move. However, Surge's Pikachu knows Quick Attack. In this case, the AI must have chosen Quick Attack as its move for that turn, then rolled "use an item instead" on the RNG. End result, X Speed at Quick Attack's priority level.
when it comes to speedy pokemon crits are fairly predictable and would not be considered luck. especially for any fast pokemon using a high crit chance move, making it guaranteed.
I wouldn't count crits as "luck" either. Since there are ton of abilities (Sniper, Super Luck) and moves (Focus Energy, Night Slash, Snipe Shot) dedicated specifically to crits nowadays, making them another part of the game. Also they are one needed way to nerf hard setup sets, that are overall so OP (That's why Baton Pass is banned)
Persian had a legit niche in gen1 competitive because it was diet tauros and tauros itself was so good that having a 2nd source of oppressively fast neutral damage was worth the team slot. not surprised at all at the results
I don´t know if this is even possible (Because of the nature of Missigno) but i would LOVE to see a MISSIGNO SOLO RUN, stats wise is really bad 33 HP, 136 Attack is great, 0 Defense is AWFUL, 6 Special is TERRIBLE and 29 Speed is really bad when you dont take hits, movepool wise it was Water Gun and Sky Attack as lvl 1 moves (and the only lvl moves) but it learns quite a lot of TM´s, should be hard if even possible
Yeah, might be nice to see the color change to compliment the Pokemon being used. Either have the color coincide with it's types or with the Pokemon's color scheme? Could definitely be neat. Nothing major or life changing, but something different. 😄👍
@@deathsnitemaresinfullust2269 jrose does that in every video! i guess he chose magenta here because there isnt really any colour u can choose to make it match persian
You definitely need to save a TON during these challenges but what I love about JRose videos is how thorough he is. He explains everything as though you’re brand new to Gen 1 and I love that.
I mean at this point in 2023, I'm sure a large portion of his viewers aren't old enough to have experienced gen 1. And with how far games and graphics have come why would a kid pick up gen 1 these days?
@UBG001 I played gen 1 as a kid, and before I started watching these videos, I didn't know about stuff like badge boost and the weird ai decisions in battle. It's set up pretty well to be useful information to anyone who is either new or not a gen 1 speedrunner, and it's still just entertaining even after you've learned it all.
6:15 The check for whether or not the AI will use an item happens after it's already decided on a move. Pikachu chose quick attack that turn but then rolled the (around 25%) chance to use an item, so the item had increased priority too.
@@alister6907 and im sure during his job interview whatever relative he has on the e4 (maybe his mom is lorelei's bff? agatha's nephew? went to college with lance and has some incriminating pictures?) kept bringing up that time he beat a zapdos.
Huh, it just occured to me that I've never seen Persian's backsprite in these versions. It's honestly pretty good. Can't wait to see how this one goes.
It got Raichu'd. Overshadowed by its more heavily marketed pre-evolution. And then later overshadowed again by the more popular Perrserker. Persian is awesome though. Later generations give it a lot of cool options with the Technician ability and access to moves like Fake Out, U-Turn, and Bite.
@@jaye4521 Raichu at least got a stat boost in Gen 6 and an improved moveset in Gen 8 so it wasn't just a dud Pikachu if you evolved it too early. I'd love if the Meowth line got a stat boost like the Pikachu line did to make it more competitive. No point in all these Gigantamax and regional forms if the line has weak stats.
@@milonchello1643 Actually because of how Slash/Crit works in Gen 1, iirc Persian averaged higher Dmg than Tauros overall. But Tauros has coverage moves which Persian lacks.
This is quite the engaging run! I never used Persian as a kid, probably a blend of not vibing with Normal-type Pokémon and this being Giovanni’s staple in the anime. Seeing it perform really well during the front of the game was a pleasant surprise-I’m guessing the E4 proved to be a significant roadblock though.
Not really just Agatha. To make the champion more consistent maybe mimic fire blast from arcanine for the executor. As for blastoise well it's got Blizzard and hydro pump with 2 or 3 turns to attack both of which can miss.
15:30 just pointing out that it was not a 1/5 chance for selfdestruct, it was 1/4. Since Persian was poisoned, weezing cannot use Toxic here. With a 25% chance for X Attack being used and the other 75% evenly reparted to the 3 moves allowed for weezing, you have a 1/4 chance for seldestruct. This also applies for Bruno's machamp. You have a 25% chance for X defend, the other 75% evenly reparted to the 4 moves of Machamp. It makes a 18.75% chance for submission and not 20%.
@@CyanEyed07 It cannot happen for the cases I mentionned. In red and blue, trainers only have 1 "type" of items. A trainer using X items (i.e Koga and Bruno) will not use potions and vice-versa.
It's kinda funny how Agatha is such a difficult battle, given how amazing Persian is in later games at dealing with Ghost types - in Gen 3 it's probably one of the best choices to handle Agatha thanks to Physical Shadow Ball absolutely annihilating the Gengars. Amazing what one little change can make to a pokemon!
Just started the video but I want to say Jrose I'm loving the much more consistent upload schedule, these videos are always such a joy to watch. So much so that I have gone back in the last week or two and basically watched them all to catch back up with everything. Keep being awesome :)
Reminds me of when I made a competitive Persian in gen VI and everyone thought I was completely insane. Meanwhile, Persian is able to get off 3-4 boosted Fake Out attacks per battle.
You made my day puuurfect. Welcome back, I truly hope you reach 1 Million shortly, you deserve it. Your editing is on point, you have a great voice for RU-vid and your content is fun. Glad to see new uploads again and I hope you are good now.
I've always like Persian, and knew how underrated it's performance was inevitably going to be. But this had to exceed even the highest of expectations. Great run, thanks for being so committed to this series. I hope these videos are as rewarding for you as much as they are for your fans.
just wanted to say, i’m stuck in bed really sick these past few days and having new videos to watch (and fall asleep to, your voice is really relaxing) is what’s getting me through this thank you jrose
Hm, I just wonder how fast Nidoking/Nidoqueen can reach out end of the game, based on their stats, types, or even great movepool and access to really strong moves.
@@milonchello1643 well, a big part of it is availability. you can start using Nidoran-M from the beginning of the game. if you could start the game with any Pokemon, there would likely be better options.
Runs I’m looking forward to. 1. The other Team Rocket run with Koffing. 2. Snorlax. I think he will do well. 3. Hoping for a run using Giovanni’s team. 4. All the others. 5. Some more Emerald runs. 6. A run using the painter guy
Me too. After watching these videos i had to try one myself. It just so happened to be right after the ekans episode so I went with koffing thinking that episode would be next. Can't wait to see how his run compares to mine.
@@EresirThe1st it's functionally impossible. You need insane luck to get past Lorelei's dewgong (we're talking around 1 in a billion chance) and Agatha is even worse
I might be drunk, I don't care if you read this of not. We don't ask these questions anymore, we are all adults now. Here's why we waltch you, MDB and everyone else like you, you answer the silly debates we all had as kids whowad better Nidoking or Nidoqueen. You guys remind us of our childhood innocence, that's incredibly rare for that I thank all of you for it. Sometimes it might seem silly, at one point these questions were important to us during much simpler times. We thank and love the content creator's behind Pokémon for reminding us of those times, especially now when everything is uncertain. I can't speak for everyone but my two favourite RU-vidrs are you and MDB for keeping me going through this trying times we live in. Even though these trying times are coming to an end, I love you both and wish for nothing but the best for you, because you my friend deserve nothing less than the best. DW MDB will be getting this too, he has earned it just like you did
Would it even be possible for these two mons? Scyther only learns normal damaging moves and Pinsir gains two damage types but the other is fighting. I think seismic toss can hit ghosts in gen 1 so pinsir could probably get through the ghost tower but unless you can get mimic before then scyther is a legit impossible run
@@j644 after all the Pokémon jrose has gone through I'm sure it's possible to do those two^^ But if they are magikarp lvl bad or mewtwo lvl good I couldn't answer ;)
@@Gokkee True dat, I'd be down to watch even if it turns out to be impossible. Like you said though, this is Jrose we're talking about haha the mad lad could find a way
Seeing more of these videos and the frequency of it makes me very excited to see after such a long break Jrose. Your videos bring me back to playing Blue in grade school and gives me this relaxing feeling every time I tune in.
This is amazing I just finished binge watching 10 other videos to refresh and see a brand new one. I appreciate the new content, my friend keep up the great work.
Watching the tier list and seeing Abra as the "worst of the base" and Alakazam as the "best of the evolved", I'm really curious about how Kadabra will be in the list
It would be top tier. The only reason abra is so low is because he had to "struggle" farm at the start since he only had teleport until after beating brock and getting your first TM. Thats were like 13 hours of the run went. After that the run went about as fast as ghastly. Kadabra starts with confusion though so their wouldnt be much to slow it down which would easily make it top tier.
Jrose! Thanks for more content, I’m obsessed with your run throughs man. I used to watch a ton of pokemon channels but lately it’s been all you haha thanks for stepping up the frequency 🙏
Don't think I have commented on this channel before, but I just want to say I really enjoy these videos. I listen to these while working and doing chores. So good to see new generation 1 content.
I feel that while Blastoise have higher defense, Gyarados is almost always a worse threat. Hardest starter in neutral situations should therefore almost always be Bulbasaur, as critical strike razor leaf is terrifying, and you get to fight both Gyarados and Arcanine, which are the two hardest replacements.
I think Venusaur would have been the hardest in this case because Persian can't 1 shot it or easily deal with it.. probably 1 shots gyarados with thunderbolt and the AI loves using takendown with Arcanine, which helps the player
Just started Pokemon Crystal on my 2DS XL because of all the videos I watched from you. Thanks for the uploads. Feels good to play Gen 1 and 2 while watching your videos.
At 31:00 this is a thing I've been wondering since I was a kid, it seems that red and blue sometimes get on a loop with moves. Here you can see the exact same sequence three times, Jrose missing and haunter using night shade. It happens often and I wonder if it's a glitch.
My prediction coming from 0:34. Persians got some good speed. Slash is going to hit hard, bubble beam covers rocks who resist slash. It probably won't be until the elite 4 that Persian stumbles (aside from Brock.)
@@ryzen232I've used persian in gen1 trainer battles, so it's offensive prowess was expected. But I was wrong about a few things. I didn't realize slash was such a late level up, obviously body slam put in work though. I expected Brock, Lorelei and Bruno to be harder. On the other hand, I didn't expect Koga or Blaine to be challenges. I knew Agatha was going to be a wall tho.
Loving the frequency of new videos recently! Though if it decreases again, it just does. But it makes me hopeful you're doing better, and finding a way to achieve your goals :) Fingers crossed for another first form run next!
Actually Bulbasaur for the rival would’ve been the harder starter to pick against, since it resist Bubblebeam and thunderbolt. But then again I guess it really doesn’t matter when you have a crit machine.
I was thinking that too, wasn't sure if I missed where in the video he explained the Squirtle rationale. I could see Venusaur in the final fight tanking a few Body Slams
So you said you have a new method for getting regular uploads again. What’s your secret? I Love seeing all these videos, but I know lots of content creators that have needed a break, and would love to share with them how you got back in the saddle again.
@@Jrose11 Listening to this tonight, and when you compare with the recordings from the Month of Jrose, there’s a very clear increase in energy in the more recent videos compared to this. I hope that’s reflective of life in general, and not just getting better at faking it. As someone who was also feeling a lot more “meh” half a year ago, I hope this month continues to be a source of joy and energy for you, whether it’s on the channel or in the much more important life you live outside of it. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, because I’ve certainly noticed it before. Hopefully that doesn’t come across as me being repetitive. Life is a series of ups and downs, and even if the downs come back, each up is still worth celebrating. (Im saying this here because a direct reply hopefully sends a notification, as opposed to getting drowned out by all of the well-deserved attention your new videos are getting)
Hey Jrose. Love your content and your single pokemon playthroughs. If you were looking for another challenge, how about something along the lines of this: -You can use any 3 pokemon from the 10 worst pokemon in terms of stats. -None of these 3 pokemon are allowed to go above level 40 -No items in battle, no glitches (except badge boost) -You can switch pokemon during battle, but only during your move - not when you faint an opponent's pokemon and it asks if you want to switch. Can you beat the Elite Four and Rival using thr above rules? I think it would be a nice challenge; using terrible pokemon, but getting to chose a combination of 3; making sure to level them up evenly to avoid going over the level 40 limit. Just an idea :D Keep up the good work!
Great video! I was really looking forward to a Persian run. I used one in my last Blue playthrough because I really like it and don’t see it getting a lot of love. I was floored when it ended up being my team’s MVP! Was really hoping it would do well here, I’m glad!
I quite enjoy the narration for these videos because half the time I watch the video, half the time I use it as background sound while grinding in Pokémon and just get some nice laughs at certain points. Also, scares me how much video is left after rival 6
