Growing up in philly and watching what he did single handily. IVERSON is my favorite player of all time. Every kid that played basketball in philly wanted to be just like him.
Every kid in the country wanted to be like him bro. I remember white kids with homemade sleeves playing around that time (this was before shooting sleeves were really a thing)
Let’s put it like this. A.I. was so great, he was able to take away the 2001 MVP award from Shaq, when he was at his physical peak and couldn’t be stopped, and no one has any issues with it!
Mmmmmm, wasn't Shaq injured that year. "I got hurt on company time, I'll heal on company time" was that off-season. Nobody complained because Shaq didn't play a full season, homie played like 40 games that season
@@teflonjohn4018 true he had 1 injury. AI had 9 injuries that season. So you outlogicd yourself. Congrats,Ive never seen a more spectacular seppuku in my life
@@Klay_Thompson113 those are super stars , Lebron , Kobe , Jordan. Obviously they changed the game a lot . The people I mention have done the same in my opinion but you don’t hear about it . Travel mcgrady was the OG big guy with handles and shooting ability
@@payrysdoscs4903 Well, Larry Brown is a Gypsy and can't stay anywhere for more than a couple of years then he bounces because "he wants to spend time with his family". Everywhere he has been that how it's always gone.
Iverson's story with mike brown is a perfect counterargument to todays culture of unsurmountable egos that demand their coaches to be fired and have a copout on their idiotic behaviors and delusions of grandeur. In order for AI to achieve greatness, he had to first humble himself and observe other greats as he did exemplify mike and magic then he humbled himself again and had an Honest discussion with his coach, he realised his mistakes and trusted the right people. This thing takes enormous balls to do and make a meaningful change to Yourself. Mad props to my childhood hero and every 90s kid. Thanks for this video man truly inspirational story!

I'm sure majority of 90s kids wanted to be "Like AI" growing up in the 00s. ❤🔥 He was our MJ growing up. I even watched his game when he had to leave the NBA and went to play a bit in the Turkish League. Besiktas Cola Turka #4 Also, DPOY+6MOY and they said it's a one man job. 10-32FG & 5-27 and the team still pulled through the W. Fans really needa put bias aside and give credits when due! Both the 01 Sixers and 11 Mavs aren't a one man job. Both are really well crafted teams 🔥
I dunno about well crafted. That Sixers team had to be defensive because they had no scorers and Mutombo was at the tail end of his career. He couldn't move well or jump well anymore on top of thinning out, which is why Shaq absolutely tossed him around down low. He had lost all the muscle mass he had in Denver where he was a rock solid center. From top to bottom, that team needed to make a move to get some shooters. Aaron Mckie might have won the 6th man, but he won the award while averaging 11.6 points per game. Not exactly a point total you see winning that award and he only shot 31% from 3. Even their best bench player was a below average outside shooter. That will be one thing I will continue to criticize that Philly front office for, never getting AI outside shooters to kick the ball out to when he needed to. If he had shooters out there, this team could have won that finals against the Lakers. The Mavs, I will agree were a well crafted team. Dirk had a lot of guys to turn to for outside shots and they had great defenders on that team. He was however, undoubtedly the reason they won that series. He willed them to the victory late in those game.
Man, as an AI fan that 2001 run was magic. After those back to back 7 game wars with Toronto and Milwaukee, Iverson was so beat down. He still had one for the Lakers but finally ran out of gas. Plus, Shaq, Kobe, and the rest of that LA team were so, so good. Iverson is one of one.
He mostly played SG, His best years were with Eric Snow at the point next to him, Other than his rookie year.. Might even put him 3rd... M.J. Kobe A.I. Wade Gervin West and Oscar were true combo guards
Pound for pound one of the stupidest comments in the history of RU-vid. If you want to talk "pound for pound that way", Stockton ad Isiah Thomas, about the same size especially Thomas, were better.
I agree, at the time, everyone wanted to be Iverson. For me it was as they said in the Video, Allen Iverson and Vince Carter. The two outstanding hotshots of the NBA
The One thing i really enjoy about The commentator on non-stop that I really like that he breaks down the science of why things happen in his videos you understand why someone's was successful and why they weren't because he shows you the science and the numbers and the meaning behind it beautiful analysis
I think Dikembe Mutombo was the difference for the most part. Yes AI was phenomenal, but he never got anywhere close to winning a title before Dikembe came along.
Philadelphia teams aren't usually willing to surround superstars with other all-star talent in order to make a true contending team; Giroux and Cunningham are other examples of this. Mutumbo was barely an All-Star but he was miles better than any other C that the Sixers had in the Answer era.
Theo Ratliff was the second best player on that team, until he got hurt. The Sixers knew(were very confident) that they were going to the finals, so they traded for Mutumbo
@@jayone3442 Both Theo & Dikembe were phenomenal defensively, But the Sixers needed someone who could hang with the league's best, and thats where Mutombo came in
I had the opportunity to meet Allen Iverson two years while working on an interview with him. He acted just how you'd expect him to, but even though he had to take a sh*t when the interview was over, he stopped to shake everyone's hand and thank us for being there. It was dope!
Great documents and information about Iverson, the fans about Ai love it, from start to ends the story is magnificent, you have amazing narrator skill.
There are not many bigger Allen Iverson fans than myself, but ai have to say that yes he was the best player on his team and one of the best in the league and one of the greatesr players of all time. But the team and style of play that Larry Brown and the 76ers built around him with Snow, McKey, Lynch, Hill, Bell, Ratliff (later Mutombo), Geiger and Kukoc all perfectly complimented AI's game and they worked great as a team. Iverson's teammates were as unselfish as he was and deserves some respect for doing being that way. I loved those teams.
Those philly teams were carried by their defense, Iverson is overrated, maybe most overrated player in NBA history. Missed almost 3/5 of his career shots, which is awful in the modern era even if you shoot a lot of 3s
Best part about iverson and Larry’s relationship was even though they threw shots at eachother through the media they respected tf outta of eachother and acknowledge each one helped the others career.
No doubt. He has to be in the conversation as one of the GOAT. As a raw talent his athleticism was off the charts. And only a 6 footer. Also he could have been an NFL quarterback no problem. My favourite player along with Kobe for sure.
I've been watching NBA since the 70's...let me tell you....Alan Iverson is the best player I've ever seen around 6 ft....nastiest crossover I've ever seen...and the quickest player ever!..top 20 player of all time!!.an amazing player to watch!!
He was great when he was focused on the game. Injury, fighting with coach, ego and other off court stuff really slowed him down. I was a big fan.. Wore number 3 on a few of my jersey because of him.. That era of NBA basketball was great.
I am a BIG AI fan. He was one of the best and most fun to watch ever. He would be my pick for nr1 for a goat team. He played with heart, and that matters the most.
most people forget or just don't know how good AI was defensively. They only talk about his offense game, but this dude was a machine stealing your ball.
Maan he was the most electrifying player I ever watched. I got into basketball by watching Michael Jordan but I watched AI after that throughout my years growing up
This era of player are different for now era, if only if Carter,Kobe,Ai,tmac and Shaq vs curry, lebron, gianis,Luka and jojic it's so very scoring machine comes
Allen Iverson was an amazing basketball player. I don’t think people really understand just how good. There are rumors that back in the day, he would score 50 to 75 points in Pro AM games. I don’t know if that’s true, but I wouldn’t be surprised. He was just that good. AI could have gone on to achieve even greater things in the NBA if his career hadn’t been cut short by injury. He was one of the most gifted players to ever pick up a basketball, and he will be remembered as one of the greatest.
He's easily the coolest player in 2000 era. He's literally your idol's idol. If you have to compare someone to him from today's era, there isn't one. AI is a cultural phenomenom
6:00 Larry didn't realize AI wasn't his employee or subordinate, a coach is (to be a little simplistic) is a sitter & teacher. an aide to the 5 on the floor and the bench depth.
The fact that he was able to put the team on his back isn't some new concept. It's been done for years by great players, but there was something about AI that was just different. I grew up watching MJ, and he is THE GOAT, but Iverson is my second favorite player of all time.
Being called a ball hog with no shooters, just energy players is crazy. Nome of his teammates could avg 20 points on a different team. Until Toni showed up there were no shot creators and even Kukoc was a liability due to being on decline
