She's a real life princess! I want to emphasize that while representation is important and all the videos of little black and brown babies excitedly reacting to Halle are touching, I hope Halle knows her embodiment of Ariel is inspiring for all. It shows that talent speaks louder than anything else. Rob Marshall, the director, has said he saw her performing at the Grammys and knew in that moment she was Ariel, still held auditions and no one surpassed her. What is meant for you will find you and Ariel found her. It's a beautiful sentiment. She's showing kids of all races you can truly be whatever you want to be as long as it's meant for you 🥹

Some people just want to gatekeep representation. They feel that if someone else gets shine that it makes them dim. But they should think like Lizzo: "If I'm shining, everybody gonna shine." Also, representation is humanizing. And if you don't see certain people as human (nor want others to), you're not going to want to see them humanized by being represented. It's sad.

About her vocals, how her voice is perfect for the role, her acting skills.... All people care about is the fact she's black. Although this representation is great and makes me happy. I’ve been following her and Chloe pretty closely since the casting announcement, and wow. Her grace, charm and sheer talent are astonishing. She would have every right to use these opportunities and questions to point out the blatant racism she had to endure and to either flex or show any sign of resentment, but she has been nothing but gracious and thankful. I’m so happy to see women of color on the big screen our ancestors would be in years from how far we came and where we are going. Perfect choice for Ariel! It’s not because she’s a black woman she really embodies this new generation of Ariel in so many ways. I’m glad Disney took a leap of faith with choosing someone more diversified instead of what we expected as a red head with blue eyes. Nothing wrong with it but we seen that look before. I’m a white girl but when I think of all the little kids who are going to watch this and feel like they have someone to look up to it makes me tear up.
