I think we should put the kudos on him first. If you have been here from the beginning, you will know why I say that. He did this with his own perseverance & motivation. Yes, his father helped teach him, but he kept his goals & was a go getter.
As a twenty-year trucking veteran, and 2.5 million miles, I’ll say it right here--trucking is a cut-throat business. You’re chances of being lied to if you start a trucking company is nearly 100%. Shippers and trucking companies will tell you a million lies to get you through the door, but then once you start hauling for them, the reality is uncovered. Expect to make 70% as much as they told you you’d make. Also, expect to work 10 more hours per week than they promised. Too much government control and regulations. To make good money, you will need 3-4 trucks running. If you can’t afford this, the only other answer is to buy your own truck and go out on the road. Consider trucking to be like a college education. There are no books that will tell you how to do it, and other owner operators are hesitant to help you since you will be their competition. If you're looking into starting your own trucking company this 2023 then I will recommend you look into getting a Governmental business grant. I was approved and awarded $280k as startup capital. Today as a company owner, independent owner operator running under my own authority, 11 years running under my own authority. I do a 15 -16 day run. $25,000 in line haul is my goal. Every month is a 10+ day vacation. I run a reefer and only spend $16,000 to $21,000 a year in maintenance. After taxes, fuel and licensing I profit $190,000 in the bank. There is no short cut to success. Get your own authority and work open broker boards for trips. You will never see the big money off this industry as a COMPANY SLAVE. I wish everyone reading this comment a successful business week.
Hello Clement, I am an ASTL Army Veteran and Retired DoD-Civil Service. I have years of experience in maintenance and operation of heavy wheel vehicles and track vehicles (tactical and combat), and management in logistics and transportation. I am presently attending a commercial motor vehicle school in Smithfield NSW, Australia to obtain a Class A CDL. I am interested in starting a Transportation Business for both intra-state and interstate operations. Your words has provided me with excellent information for my new chapter in life.I have tried sending two grant application in the last few months but i was denied. Any recommendation on what you think am missing in my application process will be appreciated. Thank You. Vr Andrian Lawrence ASTL Veteran, DoD Retired.
This was more of an informative comment I have came across today. I’m currently a semi truck driver but I’m saving up for my own rig & also for the hotshot business but I will be looking into applying for grant once am done with my LLC. Thank for the piece of information. Drive safe Driver
@@Laewrence I don’t mean to be pessimistic but I believe you need the services of a skilled, experienced, License and professional Grant attorney who specializes on Grant writing. I will recommend you make your research about Governmental Grant Writer around your area so you hire a competent one to do the application process for you. I hired one also.
I work at Diamond Truck Sales in SC. We approve people with 400 credit scores all the time. I watch these videos to learn more about the struggles truckers go through when going throuhh the process of buying a semi.
I just went to your website because of your comment and I been frustrated driving for someone else not making my own money but how much is a down payment usually?
Young man, keep doing what you do and the only one can limit you is….. YOU! 27 years in this game and I’m learning from you! I wish RU-vid would have been around when I started, SO MUCH knowledge available at our fingertips! Keep the wheels rollin and the shiny side up!
You are doing great for a kid and am proud of you and what your send out on your platform daily to help others and there are a lot of older people in the industry but don’t have the knowledge you have are if they do they not helping so really appreciated and keep on doing great ❤
Congrats on getting your foot in the door in this trucking business. Keep up the hustle and don’t let hinderance. You are correct there is a lot of money in this industry to go around . Much respect ✊
Young man I don’t subscribe to many channels but I’m so impressed with you and your approach to living successfully. I’m 49 yrs old and 5 months in the game but will definitely humble myself and take your advice on how to get paid. Stay blessed nephew
I appreciate the useful ideas and tricks of the trade we get on daily basis in your channel Ken. Thanks for being an inspiration to so many new truck drivers . This is a very helpful video!!!
your "Pop"can be proud, Im 68 years old and you give me hope on so many levels i cant even express, God Bless you young and God Bless America there is hope and light, and you are a light.
U know it's crazy listening to this man's story about him and his father, where my pops told me get my cdl, and we would drive together, and I could learn from him. The sad part was I did get my cdl, but my father never did any of what he said... Some people only make it because of the love and nurturement of their parents
I also told my son to get his CDL and run teams with me so that I could teach him the business from the front line, but my daughter-in-law told me he wasn’t interested in going over the road driving. Those who want it can’t get it, and for others whom have it at their finger tips - they don’t want to better their financial future.
Thank you!!! You’re a blessing and it’s no coincidence that you’re video came up. I was telling my husband today we’re moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Divine interruptions is what we learned about at church last week.
Respect bro definitely ready to starting my diesel trucking journey because of your vids. You are a true bleesing and I hope to get to tell you how mine goes once I get my foot in the door. Be safe out there ! Im omw to the top right behind you !
I appreciate your acknowledging a blessing vs. luck. I've only watched two of your videos and both of them have been informative, direct, and concise. Keep it coming.
He said the name of the Truck Sales Company folks, but since this video it’s no longer $5000 down---> “New 2023 models are $10,000 down and $835 per week. Used units are $7,500 down and $750 per week.” Is that a decent deal?
I am glad I came up on this video, I have a CDL and did a little bit of cross country driving with Prime Inc, 3 attempts and all was a disaster. I got into the repair side in 2017 and now I am sick of turning wrenches and so I am looking to go into driving/freight moving by being an owner operator, I started researching and found ur video and you provided some good insights, Thank you.
I started with PRIME about 2 months ago. I got my CDL and I love it. Yea its OTR but its sooo easy. The truck is 2023. Im making $1400 a week. Im stacking money, i in the process of buying a home. This life is soo simple.
I just went to your ig & followed. TFS! I just finished my bachelor's in Accounting and my husband has 2 years of trucking experience. I'm trying to do research on how to help him get his own truck and get this business poppin. Being a company driver was a good start to learn but like you said its enough money out here for everybody to win. We're 24 too so it's great to hear how young you are and taking a leap of faith in this industry! Oh and its mind blowing that you went to college too! Can never have to much knowledge🥰 God bless you and your business!
Man that's awesome. U got a great start at a young age and grade A guidance from your dad. I jumped out here and had to figure it out. But I had good coaching as well. Be blessed and safe out there on the road
Great video bro I agree with a lot of what you said. If something is meant for you it definitely will flow naturally. I recently got into the truck industry myself by way of box trucks. I’m still learning but it feels natural. I plan on getting up to an 18 wheeler one day. It has always been my dream. Keep it up
Young Man, your sincerity pours forth from the beginning of your presentation! I am still listening but I already know that you are sharing from your heart. I have subscribed as well! God Bless you son! The one thing that you said that stood out to me is “when something is meant for you, there is no resistance…” Powerful!
Excellent information and yes I watched it all the way until the end. I am about to start training with a company to drive but it might not be a bad idea after I get out on my own to go ahead and get my name on the waiting list right away. Best of luck to you in your endeavors
Great video. I think there is a difference between driving and running a business. I'm glad you found a nice place to get not only 1, but 2 dependable units. Keep the shiny side up.
Great stuff! I manage a small trucking fleet out of Utah. You’re doing it the right way and it’s refreshing to see! Keep it up and yes I just subscribed today to get more of your content!
Bro, loved the video!!! Most of all, HAD TO PRESS PAUSE FOR A SECOND, TO "JOT DOWN" THE SAYING YOU SAID IN THE BEGINNING ABOUT A PATH TAKEN, WILL BE MET WITH LITTLE TO NO INTERFERENCE, WHEN IT'S TRULY MEANT TO BE TAKEN... NOW THAT MY FRIEND WAS A NOTE WORTH TAKING NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER INFORMATION EXTREMELY VALUABLE BUT THERE'S SOME TIMES IN SOME CASES WHERE A PHRASE SUCH AS THAT IS WORTH REMEMBERING!!! 💯💯💯 AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO AND THE INFO IT WAS TRULY HELPFUL!!!
I write insurance and most people cannot, cannot afford the insurance. I repeat most people cannot afford the insurance. I get young people from 21 and up who purchase tractors and can’t afford the insurance. You cannot get on the road or haul for any company like Amazon, XPO etc. without all the required insurance policies. And they are a minimum of 3 that you need. Getting a tractor is the easy part. Trucking is a serious business and not to get into likely. Many have to get loans just to pay the insurance for the year which can cost any where from $20,000 to $40,000 total depending on the coverages and the number of units that you have. You have to know what you are doing before you get a tractor ( truck).
Keep going I appreciate all the tips, ima 22 y/o merchant marine and I’m looking to start a new business venture in trucking. My grandfather ran trucks too.
Smart guy that pays close attention to what's going on.. Some of the greatest coaches in the world are the ones that sat on the bench and observed closely...You observed your pops and learned. Keep winning man.
Your a true inspiration man. I been watching your videos & studying the truck industry & your free game is what is making want to pull the trigger on a semi. Keep up the great content! I’ve been driving all year helping my dad out who’s an owner op with only my permit, due to my side jobs always getting in the way of making my driving appointment & also procrastination on the lack of knowledge I had in the industry. I was a union carpenter that left the union when COVID hit & has been on a journey to keep my word on never going back. Working for myself doing my own jobs was great money but at the end of the day it is still super back breaking. Therefore now that your journey has literally set a step by step path to follow I am about 90% convinced on buying my own truck & hoping into the industry. But the last piece of information I’m looking for boss is insurance info on a new CDL license. I’ve yet to catch any exact info on how or where you got your insurance & that’s the only thing that I need to fully study before I make my leap of faith. I know I can’t call any insurances right now due to me not having my license yet but my dmv appointment is early December & if you can put that info out there or tell me in witch video that information is in if gradually appreciate it 🙏🏼
Thanks man for put your time for people like me. Currently in my transition out the military ready to take my CDL course and looking forward to have my own truck after couple years.
What was your MOS ?!? if you were an 88 like me you can get a waiver for truck driving !! I mean the school would still be helpful but it’s good to know you can possibly skip it
Hey thank you for the video, I think it is cool your are helping us younger generations out. There is so much info out there and it’s difficult to see the right choice to make
Thank you for the transparency in your trucking journey. I’m learning a lot from your videos. I’m just finishing CDL school and also want to be an owner operator.
Very informative, very professional, and willing to bless us with the proper tools that's needed to manifest our plans and careers in the Trucking Industry.
Thank you! Great info! I am considering getting a truck.I have 14 years as a company driver. I have owned a successful window and door business in the past.
I had to subscribe just because this was such an inspiring video! Kudos to your Dad for such an example of a great work ethic and being a role model. Kudos to you for listening to your Dad and and working hard. It sounds like you have a good plan, now work the plan!!! I'll be watch!!! And I'll be there in case you need a little pick me up in the moral support department! Life is not always easy, but you can do this!!!
Ken, your success story is like a J.K. Rowling novel, but not fiction. Each chapter is original yet informative. The plot lines are plentiful yet always expanding. Once this book wraps up... K.V. on to the next story. I know your Pops is proud. I love your energy, excitement, and humility. Keep up the great job young man.
What’s up man! I’ve been watching you channel all day for real and just catching up! First, congrats on all you have accomplished! Second, thank you for your channel & the information you share with the world! It’s currently help me take notes, brainstorm, & plan. I literally just started my LLC 2 days after Christmas 2021. I’m excited and eager to learn and grow. I’m looking for a team to help me out as we speak (dispatcher & drivers). But before that i might have to make that trip to Utah for a truck! I have my business & business bank acct. working on my website this weekend. Thanks again bro and my bad for the lengthy comment, u are very inspiring and your a young dude, that speaks volumes brother! 💯 I’m trying to grow and build!
Greetings brother...First & foremost congrats on the LLC! I can recall my initial startup, like it was yesterday! August 31st, of 2022 I will have been on LLC status for 3 years. There is a lot that comes along with this business...A LOT! Establishing trade lines is the route to go, also register with Dun & Bradstreet, if you have not already done so, it is FREE TO REGISTER! My advice, do not purchase any of their offers of services, as they are not needed currently , as you are only an EIN possessor at this point. Also, are you a CDL possessor? Just curious as I am a CDL possessor, with all endorsements/TWIC, etc.. Feel free to reach out Brother, Black Star Lines LLC, -R. L. D. J.
@@blacckstarrracing7823 thanks a lot brother!! I don’t plan on driving bc I’m still active duty & no, i don’t have a CDL. I’m even considering Freight Brokerage route as well
Did I miss something? Because I didn’t hear anywhere he mentioned the truck dealer name or exact location??? I believe there’ll be many dealers in UTAH
I 100% agree with you on leasing trucks Ken. I’m leased on to J.B. Hunt and lease from SFI and usually take home around 4000 a week after all expenses. The fuel discounts are usually .60-.70 from Pilot and I pay a single fee to drive through as many tolls as I want.
