It's a situation where you really have to check your Numbers and know where everything is going. I get paid every second week but I know exactly where the Money goes. I go over my Accounts each week. I get paid every second week but the night before payday I get access to my Payroll Deposit Sheet. I see how much I will get, then I take an Excel Sheet and calculate and budget. I live at Home with my mother since my Dad died. I pay her rent but I also help with other incidentals. IE if we get something at Costco or a Hardware Store, she buys the stuff, she pays for it then she gives me the receipt. I calculate and divide what was paid by two and then I reimburse her. Several of my bills are debited like Bank Service Charges, Car Registration, and Car Insurance. Yet I know exactly when My other Bills are due. When I get paid officially on Friday, I have an Excel Sheet preprepared where I have the following columns. Date, Bill, Date Due, Date Paid, Confirmation # (after Doing Online Banking) then a Check Mark. I've seen so may folks in my Family spend money to the point of sheer ridiculousness and stupidity but they don't worry about me so I don't worry about them.
I have a pension and I’m saving for retirement on the side, I’m only in my early 30s, AND STILL I threw up this morning worrying about money and retirement. The worry just honestly never ends. It’s hard not to panic when wages are stagnant and everything is so insanely expensive, I feel ya! I just wanna know who these Boomers think are going to buy their houses from them so that they can afford to move into a retirement home on the wages they pay?! Not me!
Hi Zoe, I love all things numbers! Please keep sharing the real numbers (income, expenses, savings, goals). It’s rare to find a RU-vidr who does that, yet it’s the most helpful thing. 👏🙏
You can reduce stress when it comes to paying off credit cards this way. Instead or leaving the entire statement balance on one day, pay off large expenses after they post to your account. That way you are not running up credit balances that you aren't able to pay off easily. It's like cash envelopes for credit cards.
I was pretty much on track with my emergency fund goals for the year and then just these past few weeks we had two money emergencies in the family and I had to cash out half of my EF. It hurts, not gonna lie, but instead of worrying about it I try to be grateful that I even had that money and the means to help and pay.
I loved the format of this video, it felt so engaging and honest. & I can’t wait for my gentle productivity planner to come in the mail 🤩 You should be so proud of yourself for the launch!! It’s definitely going to sell out
I so relate to this!! You see your metrics dip and you're like: we'll there goes my savings this month 😂 and thank you SO MUCH for purchasing a planner, Sandra!💖your support means a lot to me
I just purchased the binder and the cash envelopes! I live in Thailand, so the shipping fee is so high I want to cry 😭 (and I did inside a little bit), but I figure it's gonna be with me in a long run, so I decided to go with it. Also, I couldn't find custom cash envelopes here, so I've been DIY-ish for a long time now, and it doesn't look good LOL. I've been watching your videos and I relate so much in many ways. Thank you so much for being so honest with your spending because I feel like I'm not alone in going over my budget.
Ah I hope you love them! If you stick to them, I'm sure you will save much more than their cost + the shipping fee in the long run ❤️ But I hate paying for shipping so I feel you!
Before you ask God for something, give Him thanks for what you already have ❤️❤️❤️ Totally changing the subject here, but your hair is so shiny in this video! And the makeup is fab!
Finally after months of watching your videos I've bought the digital budget tracker 🎉 I've been pen to paper for all this time and I'm excited to track it all in the digital too 😊 big goals of saving for an emergency fund and getting a new car in the new year 😊
Something that helped me with my credit cards was calling the company and ask that they all have the statement closing date. They were all scattered before which made it difficult with budgeting, so now I have them all close on the last day of the month. Super helpful!
I can totally relate to the money anxiety 😢 just last week I had a mini mental breakdown around all the things I have to do but no money to do them lol you’re not alone girl!
Don't panic now about your pension. I am 44 and just started really ramping up my retirement accounts. My only advice is to start now. Don't stress about it but even $100 a month now, will make a huge difference 40 years from now. Best of luck!
GOAL TWINS! 🌟 I too am saving up to complete my 6 month emergency fund and will also be on track to completing it by Christmas this year 🎄 Thank you for this great video, Zoe. I have been watching your channel for over 2 years now and truly enjoy your personality and content. I am excited to receive your planner in the mail and start using it ☺ All the best, M ✨
51k Zoe 🎉 Overall feeling ok with money only thing that bothers me is the cost of housing still living at home and it seems a very basic house is over 300k. Its madness.
Okay you sold me😅what a beautiful journal. I need something like this. I'm also loving true earth. I used your code for that too. My BF is allergic to a lot of detergents but for some reason true earth seems safe for his sensitive skin at least haha... he's hooked on it too
Hi Zoe! I've enjoyed watching your videos as a new-er follower. It's so relatable to the season of life I'm in, in terms of becoming more financially independent/saving/investing. I've been reading a lot about personal finance & finding other people on youtube who inspire me. I'm curious have you ever read the book "I will Teach you to be Rich" by Ramit Sethi? He has his own finance platform on youtube too, but his book gave me a lot of peace/less stress/ and made managing my finances more simple and automated. Just curious what your thoughts are if you've looked into his perspective on personal finance? I know every one is different and clearly the cash budget binder works well for you. Great video Zoe!
also, not sure what the options are in Canada but in the US a high-yield savings account at online banks like Ally are currently offering ~5.1% interest... you're so close to $10k in your emergency fund! that could earn you roughly ~$510/yr in interest or passive income. just a thought!! 🧸
You look so beautiful today and your hair has been getting longer & it suits you so well 😍 I've been having some financial anxiety too lately and I will be honest, I was having a meltdown the other day. I try to remind myself of all the things that I DO have & channel gratitude, these are truly helpful & I mostly make things worse in my head when in reality everything is fine 🥲
financial anxiety is the WORST! its so ungrateful and can feel all-consuming, i really get it ❤️ thank you everyone for the lovely compliments!! love you!
Zoe, girl, i'll tell u one thing: i WISH we have a video of urs EVERY DAY ! the era u're into, the energy u giving.. immaculate how it gets me thinking to myself ''one step and u're getting it all done!'' & im so grateful for that THANK u!
@@ZoePritchard Hi Zoe, thanks for replying.its nice to see that the creator cares for her viewers and subs 🙂 Lately Ive been cash stuffing and your vids were giving me motivation. I really would love to see more of these, if youre still into them ofc 🙂
My wife and i always empty our fridge and pantry to the best of our ability before a trip. It shows how much food we were hoarding, some was expired, etc so it made it hard to meal plan. Coming back to an empty fridge and pantry is so helpful for us because i can look into them and know exactly what i have so i know exactly what i have to buy. No more accidentally buying something that i actually already had but i couldn't see because there was so much stuff. This has made grocery shopping so much more manageable and i always come in under my grocery budget so it's a fun game to see how much we can rollover every pay cycle. Cuts down so much on food waste as well.
I totally agree! I’m using things in my freezer for dinners and making meal plans each week. I control how much I spend at the grocery once I decide what I’m making. We used to eat out wayyyy too much. This is very expensive to do. My husband just retired in November so we needed to make some changes.
yay for the monthly money! i just got my paycheck and am doing my own budget while watching this video 🤗💸 isn't a holiday sinking fund life changing?! it's alleviated soooo much financial stress for me!!!!!
I am also starting to feel anxious towards my finances as the year slowly comes to an end. Last week, I had a mini panic because as I checked in with my finances, I realized that I'm quite behind with my savings goal for my EF due to the fact that I had a lot of expenses that popped out this year and I also travelled last May so I wasn't really focused on my EF this year. And now, I am having a breakdown of how I can reach my savings goal without compromising my other sinking funds. Hopefully, I can reach my goal and if not, then I just have to accept that I'll have to do better next year. :)
I totally relate to the financial anxiety, love that you are normalizing it even when things are going decently! I agree that emotionally beating ourselves up over it is not super helpful, but sitting down and making a better plan for the next month is a lot more empowering- although scary to face the numbers haha. ❤😊 I usually don't stress while making my budget, but I function so much better throughout the month with it, that by the time I get to the end of the month I usually feel content, not stressed, about my spending that month! Hope we both exceed our financial goals this month! 🎉😄
Just want to say I can really relate to your current money feels! Even though I know I have a budget and a plan, I can't help but worry all the same. Especially about the future and the unknown. You're not alone! xx
Hi, love the video and your content, can relate!... I wanted to ask if you could talk about copy writing and how to get into it as been interested in this but unsure how to start.
New subscriber here 😃 Quick question though, I don't buy coffee so I don't know how this works 🙈 but is that an every other day spend (per week) or what?? Because coffee is expensive lol and $40 always seems so little especially if someone's a coffee-head 😅😅
Hii!! thanks for subscribing 🩷 I agree $40 is not a lot when you enjoy lattes, oat milk, etc. For me $40 is about one coffee per week with maybe a bonus one or a treat like a croissant added on.
We didn’t have much saved with a house payment and two kids. But we did our best to save one income. It get so much better in your late 30s…it doesn’t happen overnight but it does happen very quickly once your investments go up. In your 40s is when you finally feel rich. The more money we have now, the less we actually think about money….kinda weird.
With all the left over cash - why not look at that as savings, put all of that together and pop it into a ‘slush” fund for holidays or just treat yourself to something (like your bag) so your monthly $1000 always stays the same and the surplus gets banked into a new account ?
I totally had to pause the video to leave a comment - I totally love and appreciate hearing yourself talk when you walked past the coffee shops and told yourself no you wanted to be frugal so go home and make your cinnamon water. This is exactly why I love your channel, the more you can share those self talking tips the better! Also, the anxiety after spending so much totally makes sense why you felt that way in October
Hi Zoe, I am *so close* to FINALLY paying off my students loans and will be able to focus on investing and saving in the New Year. I want to build an emergency fund for myself and I am wondering what institution/account you use? I don't want to keep thousands of dollars in a general savings account that earns < 1% interest.
Hi Olivia!!! congratulations ✨ amazing news about being so close to paying off your student loans! Are you in Canada? I just switched my emergency fund to a WealthSimple Cash account as it earns 4% interest! I’ve already made $30 on it in the month month since switching 😍
@@ZoePritchard Yes I am! I live outside of Toronto 😊 Okay great, I will definitely check that out. I already invest with Wealthsimple so that would be an easy switch!
@ZoePritchard just curious if you don’t mind sharing… after your bills etc are accounted for and once you take out for cash stuffing how much do u leave in the bank? I like using my CC for cash back when buying groceries and pc points for gas.
I feel the same about my fall spendings! I had an expensive September so had to cut back in October and panicked. I was super anxious in October. But I have a new attitude towards November and also want to embrace being frugal!
I think for credit cards it helps to pay them whenever. I would not wait until the closing date to see the total spent. I like to pay them off sooner and generally every other week. Then you are not waiting for a huge shocking bill.
I always get so confused when I make sporadic payments because the statement balance on my CCs doesn't always update in time. So instead I put the money into my "saving to spend" account and pay it off one shot.
@@ZoePritchard oh I never look at the statement balance just the website total amount when I log in. My accounts are usually pretty good at showing me what has hit my card and I can see what is still pending.
I would recommend you to travel to a foreign third world country like morocco or vietnam. A cheap destination and it will give you a crazy lesson about „lack of money“. This really shifted my thinking.
hi zoe you are one of my favorite channels ever 💗 i really want to buy a planner & mug but i also am trying to be careful with what my money goes to right now. there’s active boycotts against starbucks and mcdonald’s right now due to their support of israel. i’m worried that your stance may not be aligned with mine so scared to make a purchase yet. but i love your channel so much. just wish i knew that you are against the genocide in palestine. 🇵🇸❤️🩹
hi amy thank you for the kind words 🩷 everything im reading, seeing… it is terrible and saddening and madening. im not the type to make a statement as i simply dont have the words and i always fear to say the wrong thing. I think anyone with a heart, their heart is hurting right now. i was raised very anti violence and that is a value i still hold on to.
@@ZoePritchard i understand zoe but i hope you continue to educate yourself on these issues & find the right words. i would also hope you could commit to not supporting companies such as starbucks, mcdonald’s, & disney who have shown material support to israel during these ethnic cleansing events
