Brad, please stop deprecating yourself. Completely contrary to your claims, what you are doing here is utterly fascinating, and indeed the way you explain yourself is charming in its lack of pretension. I own a very large collection of the JW Signature Editions, and with a few of them have managed to feed them, note-for-note, in to Sibelius, so I do know the painstaking nature of your work here - all for the noble cause of educating your viewers on the orchestrations of such iconic music. All I can add, which others have done here, is to express my wholehearted gratitude for the work you do, and indeed the highly elegant delivery of it, and we certainly hope you never get bored of doing it, because as your viewers, we will NEVER get bored of watching it. With love!

How do you source the original scores? Obviously a lot of John Williams's scores are available for purchase, but I'm assuming most orchestrations don't get published...

Hi! I'm from Russia and I don't speak English well, but I'm always inspired by your videos. I'm probably the only one you have a "views from Russia" because of. I really like your presentation. And comments. I first listen to music and look at the notes, and then I translate what you sign and start reading, watching the notes and listening. Thank you! How do you feel about Classical music? Do you play a musical instrument other than the piano? I love Bartók. Do you have your own musical works? I really like to follow the refrain. With the repetitions of themes, their development and return to them. John Williams, John Powell and Howard Shore are Brilliant composers for me

🎼 Reductions are so crucial! I spent a few summers doing score reductions of Dmitri Shostakovich Sym #13 and various movements from Sym #6 and # 9 along with Bartok's 2nd Piano concerto etc, etc, etc! So much was gained. Also, doing your own Schenkerianesque reductions are great for the study of form. Keep up the excellent work, Brad! We are not worthy!!! 🎹

Scores of suites by John Williams are published by Hal Leonard in John Williams Signature edition and you csn buy it for example here: www.halleonard.com/product/viewproduct.action?itemid=4490056 Cues from movies are available in some libraries at music universities or in private collections, but a lot of scans are available on the internet. Look at pages like swappano.com Ps. I've some cues and if you private message me, I can share something to you 😉

Score reductions are SO important to your learning. If you think doing a score reduction is boring, then you are not learning from the process and not observing what you are seeing and hearing from a particular composer. If you are going to put down the process with negativity, why do it at all?

@samuelconnolly347
@samuelconnolly347 3 года назад
You can export videos from Sibelius. I just have the cheap version (Sibelius First), but you can easily export video from there in MP4 format. If you can't import a PDF, why not just try taking screenshots of the score and converting it into a file format it'll accept? Free converters are available.

@tommasoannoni4836 3 года назад
@@samuelconnolly347 Thank you for the suggestion. That's what I am doing now, from noted pdf to jpeg to video. Hopefully, I will upload much more soon! Here is the last one I made, if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IRY7EzscQrQ.html Thank you.

@samuelconnolly347 3 года назад
@@tommasoannoni4836 I liked your video! I can see why the video export wouldn't work for your style. Your annotations are interesting (and what a great piece of music - I've never played the game). I just tried to watch your analysis of Princess Mononoke, but it's been blocked, sadly. I've never done anything like this before, but I'd like to. I feel like my knowledge of music theory is reasonable, but recognising all these things in an actual orchestral setting? Not sure. It'd be a good exercise though.
@tommasoannoni4836
@tommasoannoni4836 3 года назад
@@samuelconnolly347 It's a good exercise for sure. Worth the time? It really depends, but if you enjoy the process, then why not. What I did for now eas by ear, and it takes a lot to identify all the doublings etc. I may experiment with scores in the future, like this guy does, which is sooo much of a time saver. But yeah, go for your passions! Maybe you can do something similar for electronic music, if that's your passion! PS: Yes, my second Mononoke video (the one with the little movie in it) has been hidden, I may reupload it in some other way to make sure it stays up.

Ravenclaw 14 Check on Swappano if anyone’s offering it, otherwise it may not be available...unfortunately not all film scores make it to Swappano, since the whole premise relies on scores being leaked - for example trying to find Pirates of the Caribbean scores is a lost cause, same for some specific films (for no apparent reason). Basically if it isn’t on Swappano, there’s a good chance it never left the studio’s hands.
