Band in a Box - How I create COVERS from MIDI Files "Chord Import Tutorial". In this tutorial I show how I use the MIDI Files Chord Import tool in BIAB to create covers of popular songs. I use "realtracks" extensively in this video and show how I can take a popular song and crate a cover across different genres. Comments always welcome and Please subscribe to my channel if you find the information useful.

Henry -- I have two reasons to thank you: First, just as a matter of technique, you showed me how to get SO much more out of Band in a Box. Secondly, you helped me get my head straight on that "cover vs. copy" issue. Great stuff there Henry. When I do your process as described I get it into BB, but dont get any levels on mixer. The midi file in cakewalk works when reviewing midi file & sample sounds I can hear. even though I regenerate still no sound, but it is playing in chord chart. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan.
@henryclarke5407
@henryclarke5407 3 года назад
If I understand your question you will not get any levels until you move the files to actual tracks. If you just import the music stays in the sequencer and a single file. Once you move the instruments to the respective BIAB tracks and "enable" style you should see the tracks playing in each BIAB track module.

Henry you have a great singing voice and I liked your choice in music for this Video. How is the melody line generated? Did it come over with the Midi chord import? Or were you playing the keys? Or does BinaB generate the melody line from the chords? Thank you for the tutorial.
@henryclarke5407
@henryclarke5407 2 года назад
I do not import melody. I usually just create the melody myself with my voice. I'd have to review this video to see exactly what I did but since I have so many it's hard to go through them all. BIAB can generate a melody line and there's a tutorial I have out there that does just that.

Hi Henry, thank you for this tutorial. I whole heartedly agree with the concept of covers. I'm a newbie with BIAB and see the value of importing chords, applying styles and applying some creativity. My question is, can you recommend resources for obtaining MIDI files? Do you have any favorite websites?
@henryclarke5407
@henryclarke5407 3 года назад
Thanks for viewing. Importing chords is my favorite tactic. It allows me to be more creative and sometimes I can develop a new song from the chords imported. My favorite websites are "Trantracks.com" or "MidiKing.com". I find that "FREE" MIDI files of popular music don't sound very well. I'd rather pay the 6 bucks or so to get a full sounding version. Hello Henry. DAW- you mention using Sonar. Why? I have been using Cakewalk & just started using pgmusic Power Tracks Pro Audio. I'm wondering if you could comment on each DAW, or...why do you prefer Sonar? Thank you.
@henryclarke5407
@henryclarke5407 3 года назад
Hi Dan. I really cannot comment on each DAW. There are just too many out there. I personally use Sonar because it's the DAW I'm most comfortable with. I've been using it for a long time and have lot's of Plug-ins at my disposal. I find the VST's work great and also I love the screen layouts. Especially since I do an awful lot of bussing. Also the "Pro-Channel give me additional features where I can modify the sound and I flat out LOVE the embedded PX-64 percussion strip since I always have to enhance the drums that I import from BIAB. It's just the right one for me. I did try ProTools but didn't have the energy to learn another DAW and Plug-ins are in a different format.

Not my point. I don't intend to copy anything. But I'm interested in creating backing tracks of tunes but somme midi files can be used as a starting point (for example for, say, a brass or strings arrangement). Since these arrangements are already written in pdf scores, how can they be converted into Biab midi tracks? Thanx

I've heard that and have not had that problem. Maybe it could be (and I'm guessing) that for every song I play around with I set them up with One Chorus and around 100 bars. I also use the "Analyze" button to get the remainder of the chords. That may help. Again that's not a problem I experienced.
