Band in a Box - 4 Tips to make professional music in Band in a Box. Enhance your music production (within the Band in a Box Console). This tutorial presents 4 tips you can use in the BIAB console to add "color" to your music compositions. Dynamics can make all the difference in how a song is presented and these are things you can do BEFORE exporting to RealBand or another DAW. I focus on initial composition prep, sweetening the drums, adding instruments and when to use them, and creating "Shots" for impact in your song. I use a ballad for demonstration purposes but these techniques can apply to all varieties of music and across all genres. My tutorials are always a bit long but I'm hoping you can refer back to them from time to time when you want to incorporate some of these techniques.

Hi Henry, I use BIAB for the same reasons that you do. I am a songwriter and I focus on using Real Tracks to arrange and produce my songs. I have learned quite a bit viewing your videos, Thank you very much!. I am wondering if you can recommend "the Ultimate" BIAB video (or videos if there is such a thing) that covers the many topics of editing and putting all the various pieces together. 🎉 Your tutorials are just awesomely practical! I just came back to band in a box after a long hiatus of having it on my PC and hardly ever using it. Then, a friend of mine kind of nudged me into getting the 2024 upgrade which I got after much hesitation. It was kind of a leap of faith for me 😂 cause I still was doubtful. But after checking out your tutorials, I decided to give it another shot and, lo and behold!, you given me a new reason to believe in biab. So keep on keepin on man with those fabulous lessons and thanks again! ❤

Of course, I still have a ton of questions, especially after trying to find answers in the help files which I still find confusing after all these years (I believe that's what got me off biab in the first place, the unhelpful help files, second to the brushoffs newbies used to receive from "seasoned veterans").

Henry………you are THE MAN! That was pure GOLD. Certainly among the best BIAB tutorials I’ve ever watched. I’m not a song writer, just an old guy (74) entering chords from jazz standard lead sheets…….fake books, et al. But your 80 measure suggestion alone is genius…………a nugget…………removes the constraints and makes the process of adding and subtracting various elements so much less cumbersome. Once you play around with shots you'll never go back. Especially if you're doing horn parts or synthesizer stabs. They make all the difference in the energy of the music :-)

This is the info I needed. All I knew about was drum fills and getting rid of the unusable chorus repeats. Thanks for confirming how confusing they are to use. Adding and taking away instruments I would manually do in my DAW. Shots are an awesome tip. Thanks for putting this together.

Hi Albert. sometimes also add and take away in my DAW but doings "shots" are tuff in a DAW. I find it better to program them in the song versus trying to cut and paste them in my DAW. Thanks for watching. Henry

@@henryclarke5407 thanks for responding. I am looking for a couple of things that I've not found fully explained, or admittedly I may have missed them. One is how to do my vocals. Do I do my singing (or attempted singing) on BIAB and then try to move them to my DAW? Or do them on a DAW first and then add my BIAB music to them? Next, the first question leads me to this one. I've watched you do Drag and Drop from BIAB to your DAW but I swear I can't see close enough to see where you are dragging from? Sorry I know you have better things to do than answer dumb questions, however if you have a video or two that explains the vocals workflow and the Drag and drop technique I'll dance at your next wedding! lol I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks. :-) I promise I won't do this to you on a regular basis, honest. Any help will be appreciated. If you can't help, or don't have the time I'm still your fan!

@@jgodfrey67 Hi John, first of all you did not miss how to do vocals. I didn't address this in the video. You have to understand the overall process of creating electronic music. As a basic principle your BIAB is your backing track. Thus you would create the backing track, load that into your DAW and sing you vocals into the DAW with the backing track. You would never try to add music to a vocal track in your DAW. Timing would be terrible.

@@jgodfrey67 Question 2: The drag and drop technique from BIAB into your DAW is based on your usage of the DAW integration tool. If you do not have that you will have to 1: create wav files of each track and put them in a folder on your PC (see my utility track video). 2: Once you have those tracks exported IMPORT them into your DAW. Remember it's essential that you know your BPMs for the BIAB tracks. You will need to match that BPM with your DAW BPM to make sure you can effectively edit.

Mr Henry, loving your videos so far! I'm using biab for the first time, but I only need midi instruments! Is there a way you know of to just load midi instruments instead of real tracks? I only use midi backing when performing live :/

Sure. You can convert any realtrack to MIDI through the track Menu.

That style was from a 2004/2005 Smooth Jazz style pack. Group was Jazz 30 and Set was 41 MIDI. I've had different packages of BIAB over the years (not every year). It probably came with the original purchase. You can probably find something close if you search Smooth Jazz with 12/8 Time Signature. Sorry.

Hmmm .. Not sure why. Do you "regenerate" after you change the bar settings? If you don't do that they won't take. Maybe that's the reason. I would start looking there.

I've been looking through your lessons and haven't located where you say something like....'BB was unstable when I downloaded it, it works better loaded from hard copy...' I got the flash drive because it wasn't as stable as I need. Is that what you did? Did I misunderstand? Should I uninstall first and then install from the flash drive? Thanks. I just plug in the USB Hard Drive, run the BB Executable and go from there. I do not do any full install. Everything stays on the Hard Drive.
