Good posture is a cornerstone of my Blueprint anti-aging protocol.
In this video I’ll show you the five most important habits and exercises I use to maintain a perfect posture at all times.
Thank you to corrective exercise specialist Kjetil Larsen for his advice in building this protocol 🙏 I will be publishing my full conversation with Kjetil in the coming weeks for those of you that want a more technical review of Kjetil identifying the problem and treatment plan. Stay tuned.
Remember: Kjetil's advises you only do his strength exercises a max of x2 per week (x1 set to fatigue). And be sure to consult a doctor.

Update: my body and mind feels best when doing some sort of body movement every ~5 minutes. That's easy for me as I usually work standing up. Your optimal time window to move your body may be longer, i.e 20-30 min. I will be publishing my full conversation with Kjetil in the coming weeks for those of you that want a more technical review of Kjetil identifying the problem and treatment plan. Stay tuned.

I work as a UX designer on a tech team. A lot of these cues are ones that I've included in monthly newsletters to my entire organization. I find it incredibly challenging that corporate wellness packages don't (generally) include some sort of gym membership or tips on how people can be physically healthier. So I took it upon my self to share tips just like this. Movement is medicine.
@LeoFrenchie
@LeoFrenchie Год назад
Unfortunately, going to the gym will often make back pain worse because of poor posture while performing exercises. 99% of "posture" and "chronic back pain" experts on RU-vid just repeat "strengthen and stretch"... I've tried it all and continue to suffer. If I've done all that work and come up empty, I don't think we can blame companies for not helping. They would just be wasting their money on things that don't work.
@robschilke
@robschilke Год назад
@@LeoFrenchie At the end of the day, having some sort of wellness plan to address any shortcoming is paramount. Sure, you can go to the gym and make your back pain worse if you move beyond your range of motion with a weight your body isn't prepared for. BUT at the same time, you can improve back pain (to use your example) by performing said exercises correctly. If you're untrained, uncoached, or misinformed on what to do, I can see how you might not be making progress.
@LeoFrenchie
@LeoFrenchie Год назад
@@robschilke your message mentioned gym membership & tips. A gym membership doesn’t usually come with a personal coach. Tips in a newsletter or RU-vid video only go so far. Misinformed is anyone talking about “tips”, “stretches”, and “workouts” for chronic back pain. Why do you think millions suffer of this and videos about the solutions have millions of views? It’s not about people not looking for a solution. Physical therapists are growing like wild flowers. They’re not helping either. If you’re lucky enough to have found a solution for your pain, I’m glad for you. But after months and months of searching, watching, visiting doctors of all sorts and personal trainers, I have to tell you that the solution cannot come in any kind of “wellness package” because what they would include in it would not work. At least not for the majority.

Great video Bryan - would love to see you bring in one of the more prominent RU-vidrs that are trained in Postural Restoration Institute's techniques, as the approach is unique and myself and many others have seen amazing, very quick results with them. Someone like Conor Harris, Zac Cupples, Neal Hallinan, Waughfit, or Chaplin Performance (or even the OGs Ron Hruska or Bill Hartman)! They may even be able to improve your breathing pattern/strategy (you could even consider a trip to the Hruska Clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska to get your posture analyzed from literally every possible angle and input, including jaw position, visual system, autonomic nervous system state, shoe feel/ground sense, etc.). Of course Kjetil Larsen from MSK Neurology is a great practicioner and content creator too!

Hi Bryan, I had the same problem... I found walking everyday really helped while focusing on my upper back posture . Using videos and mirrors is very helpful... after several months it becomes more natural and not something you 'need to constantly work on'. I also did the exercises and such, but the walking is way better since posture is not static. I am about 9 mos into fixing my posture. So hopefully this helps.

There is no "bad" posture and having an upright posture does not fix any back pains/problems. The only thing this changes is how people perceive you, as it's a sign of confidence. Besides this, there is not a single health benefit of having an upright posture.

I have bad posture because of the lack of confidence so my hunching has gotten really bad. It is hard to remember to fix my posture but something I have been doing for the last couple of days is using the "pointing and calling" system Japanese train workers use. I read it from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear but basically every time I notice I am slouching, I say "I am slouching" and consciously straighten my back.... hope this helps some people!

Your rate of aging is 0.69, so for every day that passes you age by ~16.5 hours, or you gain 7.5 hours a day with this protocol. It would be interesting to make a video breaking down how that compares to the time required for the protocol compared to someone who ages at a rate of 1 day per day.

I’ve been really getting into calisthenics this past year and I realized that my poor posture has made advanced skills extremely hard due to me having weak muscles in certain areas. I’ve always just tried to force my body in a straight line and that has been painful and unsuccessful. Doing these exercises in just three weeks has made such a huge difference.

What calisthenics program do you do?
@johnlorenzo4212
@johnlorenzo4212 Год назад
@@sl4983 I don’t use a program just learning on my own. If you wanna start push ups, pull ups, dips for upper body. Squats then harder squat variations when you get more mobility and strength, lunges and glute bridges. Do that for about 6 months to a year and make sure you stretch well before. Just look up stretches on RU-vid if you don’t know. After 3 months you’ll start noticing changes. 6 months huge difference. 1 year and you’ll be amazed with how you feel and look. Also look up some basic core strength exercises. Might seem repetitive at first but don’t push it and try and move on to more advanced exercises if your bodies not ready, will only result in injuries. Good luck!

4:40 Interestingly enough, don't some people claim that posture even goes beyond symbolic signaling, affecting mood in a way that matches our impression of the posture? Unfortunately I couldn't find any solid studies on this, though there appear to be some biofeedback therapies that could help against depressive moods. Either way, glad you covered this topic! It's one of these rampant bad habits in our culture that get increasingly normalized. And leads to muscle imbalances, stiffness, and ultimately injury. As you showed in this video, what makes it especially insidious is the design of our digital devices. Does Blueprint in theory also consider coming up with more ergonomic devices if it aids longevity by supporting ideal posture, or is that a bit of a stretch?
@Bushify13
@Bushify13 Год назад
I don't remember this word for word, but I do remember Andrew Huberman saying that there was a study showing that sitting upright keeps your brain more active than being slumped over (not sitting upright compared to taking a nap slumped over, the comparison is doing something mentally either sitting upright or slumped), I think this was to do with sitting down not standing
