In this video, I tell you in details how I'm indirect warping my rigid heddle loom. I cover the equipment needed to use this technic. I also talk about the advantages and disadvantages of using this warping method compared to direct warping. #looms #weaving #warping

This is the only video that has made indirect warping make any sense to me. Thank you so much!
@shrlhorton
Would you have gotten a 48” after having the 32”. I did not know if it would be too wide

Very helpful video, thanks. I also watched one from Fiber Love Diary. She had some good pointers that you may want to see.

Indirect warping is my favorite. I made a cross holder so the warp sits on the table and I don’t hold it in my hand while threading the heddle. (Google ‘warping cross holder’ for various designs that are easy to replicate with scrap wood and glue. Or use two rulers or paint sticks as lease sticks.) I tape the holder/sticks to the table so it can’t fall off. I take the heddle off the loom while threading so it’s closer to me. The heddle goes in a holder as well, google ‘reed & lease stick holder’ for ideas. Prices are ridiculous, it’s easy to make with a dowel and scrap wood if you have a small handsaw and wood glue. Or set up 4 big heavy bean cans and sit the heddle between those, whatever works. Now the warp and heddle are on the table right in front of me, no leaning or stretching or straining to see the holes. While threading I pause every few inches to tie the threads behind the heddle into a temporary bundle with a slip knot so they can’t accidentally be pulled back through the heddle.

What loom do you think a person should start with? I’m afraid that it might not work for me. Do you love your loom?

How much waste do you account for when measuring the length of your woven projects in the planning stage?

I am disabled so walking back and forth across the room to direct warp is very difficult for me. I wanted to see the whole process of warping with a warping board before I buy one. Thanks so much. This has been very helpful.

I wanted to indirect warp and was about to buy a warping board but, when I saw this video I remembered my Ashford loom flips over like yours and I purchased the pegs when I bought the loom. How did I forget that (I'm 61 so must be oldtimers) LOL! Anyway, this video made it very clear how to do the warping and I will be trying it out when I finish the current project on my loom. Thanks so much for your time in putting these tutorials out for us.

OMG why have I not watched this video before now? Ok it was probably because I was not ready to indirect warp but still, I watched all your other videos lol I have an ashford 32 inch rigid heddle and I did not know that the bottom of my loom could also be a warping board lol I bought a warping board lol oh well, I guess it will come in handy if I want to get a warp ready when I already have a project on my loom. Thats what I am going to tell myself to make me feel better lol ;) T x

Does the counting cross have to be at the end? Or can it be a little way back from the end?

I've only warped my loom four other times before this and I have to say, this was MUCH easier for me. I'm disabled and the bending and walking and everything involved in direct warping is very hard and exhausting. Not only that but my apartment is very small which limited the length of warp I could make. Now that I have a warping board I made a 10 foot long warp my first time! Thank you!!!

is it too hard to do that with the threading hook?

My RH is a Schacht and is pretty much square meaning 32" back beam to front trap. The trap would come off but that's still 28". I don't think I could reach that far. Do you think it would be ready y to sit in back holding the Cross upside down and threading towards you? My last warping (Christmas towels) I had just got the warping board and used a hybrid method with the loom butted up against my kitchen table where I had the warp board clamped. Problem was it hurt my back leaning over the heddle and the warping board on the table....
